What's your real life benchmark?

I drive a '97 Monte Carlo SE, but I've driven:
'08 Dodge Viper SRT/10, '07 Z06, Ford GT, Audi R8 FSI, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, Ferrari F430's, Ferrari 360 Medena's, Lamborghini Gallardo's and a Superlaggera, Countless Porsche 911's GT2's and GT3's, Aston Martin DB9's. Aston Matrin V8 Vantages's.
Oops! Forgot Bentley's and Maserati's. Nothing interesting. just the GT's, Spyder's and Quattroporte's

In real life, i've driven a Subaru Impreza Sport, 3 Colin Mcrae edition Imprezas, two Impreza STI Type R Scoobies, 1 version 5 STI Impreza 4 dr & a 555 Impreza STI 4 dr ( personal car ).Also driven a 400 bhp Evo 6.To add too this list, i've driven a 98 S reg M3 Evo coupe ( last of the E36 M3s ).So have some knowledge of japanese cars.

We managed to persuade the driver to give it some beans too - he got a tip for that!

I currently drive a Mitsubishi Evo 8, my previous car was a Mazda RX8, I have driven them both extensively on road and on race tracks and I think the physics on GT5P are excellent and no other game on PS3, XBOX or PC I have played can even get close to the realistic feel and each individual cars characteristics. The subtle way the suspension reacts when turning, braking or going over bumps, the initial turn in response, the mid-corner balance, how it feels on the limit, the way it reacts when you take it beyond the limit, the characteristics of the engine, the way it brakes, ect. ect. every aspect is remarkably close to real thing. Quite a lot of people knock the engine sounds on GT5P but with the two examples I have owned (particularly the RX8) the sounds are bang on.

I do miss my 555 a lot, when i bought it the suspension fitted to it was Scoobysport coilovers & believe me there wasn't a mm of travel, so was always finding holes or cats eyes in the road.

a 99' nissan micra or nissan march as its known in gran turismo.

i get the odd chance to drive a twin turbo supra now and then, but thats about it

sweet, i got a friend that drove a right hand drive R33 Skyline GT-R in Jamaica, i envy the kid!!

I started Go Karting when I was 8 years old, there is a track and car track just up the road. I havnt been in the past couple of years due to certain things.

Im now 17 and own a 1.1L Peugeot 206 which is pretty fun for the moment :P
When I'm 21 I will build my beast :D

i want to do comparisons with the FordGT, Porsche GT2, Porsche Carrera GT.
I'll do it eventually. Need the camera set up for in the cars and someone to film at a good angle on a corner.

Then I want to replicate what i did in GT5 and test the accuracy of the physics. Maintain same speed/RPG/Throttle position around the closest corner I can find to match the real life one.

-> My real life benchmark? Simple, my S2000. So far my S is by far the best car I've driven. Even after I've driven an E49 M5, E46 M3, 996 GT3, GTO 6.0, Evo VIII & X, GD WRX STi, C6 Vette Z51, CTS-V, Sky Red Line, Exige (non S/C), and many others; no car can deliver the balance of fun and trill in one package. :)

-> Ever since GT2, I love the S2000; and now I have one of my own. Everyday is a driving simulation experience! :sly:

My real life cars:

2007 Ford Mustang GT/CS
1995 Ford Mustang GT (modified 351W bored & stroked, 4BB)

:)

2001 audi s8
2005 bmw 3 3.0
2005 skoda octavia 1.6 fsi
2009 skoda superb 2.0tdi
and now my golf tdi :D

Whats your benchmark?

IF there's a 2007 Ford Fiesta Mk5, as the one in my avatar, then perhaps I will ask my father to compare both cars.

However, I doubt that will do any good. He said once that GT4 looked just like real life, when compared to GT5:P (which does look like real life) it's years away from being close. :boggled:

Anyways, that doesn't mean that from the point the game is released until the day I have a car, there won't be time for a proper comparison.

I don't own a car, personal reasons, i live in a big city, no real need with public transport and all.
But i have driven the Gilles Villeneuve (i live about 10km away) during off season and have access (through family and friends) to:

70's Plymouth Duster 340
'74 Pontiac Trans-Am Firebird
'06 Audi A4
'07 BMW 525i
'04 Civic 2-door
'91 Acura Integra RS
'87,'96,'05 Golf GTi (courtesy of a GTi lover)
Nissan 350z
Benz e190
and a '92 Mustang GT.

yes the F20C powered AP1 is a great car as well as the AP2 with its F22C motor. your right about the balance in the S2000, Honda did wonders with both the suspension and engine on the S2K's. the F20C was built so impressively it was crowned the 'King of Heads', GT got the S2000 down pat on GT4 thats for sure, can any one say Amuse...

I drive a Ford Fiesta mk3 everyday and that's about the only one reference I have about driving experience. I drove a Fiat Brava and a Punto several times but for my 20th birthday, my gift was a 6 laps run on a Formule Campus.

Well the car wasn't very powerful (about 110CH, 420kg) but the track was a national track which host FFSA GT among other series such as Carrera Cup or Clio Cup.

The experience was quite enjoyable considering my everyday driving. Still, it's my only racing experience =)

My benchmark is my 310bhp Toyota MR2 turbo. Mid engined, rear wheel drive.

I'm looking fwd to try GT5 with the G25/27 so I can practice my heel n toe skills and learn to handle a drifting back end so I can apply those skills to the road (i.e. learn how to handle my car if it steps out of line).

Other than karting I don't have too much real experince of track driving. I have driven on an airfield in Locost 7 a while back which was tremendous fun but there was no track and no times it we just had a chance to thrash the car ever so slightly.

Other than that, I tracked a 306TDi once just on a track day so it was not competetive and I've owned a couple of Seat Ibiza's, my first two cars. My second one I drove to Spain in and it conked out over there. Since then I've had a BMW 318i, Peugeot 306TDi, VW Bora V5 and I currently drive a Ford Focus 1.6LX.

The only cometetive track driving I've ever done is karting, and I'm fairly proud that for a guy bordering 13st I can usually hold my own. Usually.

I take my FWD 1990 Subaru Legacy...WAGON...out onto some nice empty highways and ruin its transmission and swerve back and forth.

Then I do the same in a variety of cars in GT and see if any of them are close to what happened in real life. If at least 1 is, I say GT has done its job.

I own an s2k too. I have to agree nothing else can give you the feel of the S. The good feeling of switching to a car with torque after driving the S gets boring. Plus I've got a few goodies on it as well like amuse front end, springs, OEM spoiler, and little things like that. I need coilovers and ITBS dangit... Anyways I attached two pics of the car. It now has black rims, painted calipers, and is dropped. I look forward to seeing what everyone else has. Especially everyone over in the UK's.

I drive a 1993 Honda Accord automatic as my winter beater and have been driving it more as my daily as my 1997 Acura Integra GSR becomes less reliable on the street, The GSR was dyno'd and tuned at 15lbs on 93 octane, making 374whp and 291ft/lbs tq...I am now running it at 20lbs, driven mostly on weekends now and slowing putting more time and money into it.
GT37R Turbo from Full-Race.com, fully built B18C1 motor, 8.5-1 compression pistons, 750cc injectors, yada, yada, yada....I am saving for some good suspension parts now as well as an 8 or 12 point roll cage and some big brakes.

Your basis for judging GT5 isn't centered on what car you drive in real life, its how you drive it! :sly:

That said, I have track experience driving a Mini JCW, Porsche GT3, SL55 AMG, 350z, and my Audi S4 Avant daily driver among others.

My daily driver is a 350z. PD got it right. The one in the game handles just like mine. I just wish there was a left hand drive version in the game. I feel like I'm trying to drive from the passenger seat!

My real-life benchmark is my Mazda Roadster, driven in a spirited manner on the twisting mountain roads of Colorado. I've also experienced driving a C5 Z06, a Viper GTS, Subie WRX STi, Lancer Evo 9, Honda S2k, a few 3-series BMW's as well as an E46 M3, but none as intimately as I've gotten to know my little Mazda.

My daily driver is a BMW 740 and we haven't had one of those since GT2, I worked as a valet parking attendant a couple of years ago in which I drove everything from a Bentley Continental GT down to a Hyundai Accent none of which I got to thrash lol. However I found my mom had gotten a Z4 when I came home to visit, its an '07 3.0 so a little faster than the ones in GT4 and GT5P but it seems to be pretty accurate in the game.

Well I guess my sportiest car was a Fiero GT, which gave me a decent feel for mid-engine handling. I still don't think PD quite has it right with how to oversteer them. Oddly my winter car at the time was an 83 (second gen) civic--which is the closest thing I've had to a car in a GT game. I only had the 1300cc version though.

Somehow the wife always seems to get the sportier cars. She's currently got a 2002 Saab 9-3 SE Turbo. Helluva fun car to drive, and the end of the era of saab hatchbacks. Before that she had a Neon Expresso.

This household only drives proper manuals.

I have BMW E46 330d Touring M-Packet and this is almost perfect car for daily driving, lots of fun and torque, good consumption and decent comfort. My only complaints are heavy diesel in the front, which you can solve with applying the right ammount of gas in the curve and absence of limited slip differential, which you can solve with buying one from Quaife.

OT-> ...

^ Welcome to the S2K GTP Brotherhood. :sly:

BT-> Another alternative to my S2K would be my ex-car; the WRX Sport Wagon. :)

Thanks 👍 You must be from s2ki. I'm Gyoza on that forum. You've got some nice cars. Where'd you get the gtplanet decal from? Oh btw, that's a funny pic because I swear that is a berlina with an amuse bumper behind your car. :sly:

Btw, Darkside rules. haha, j/k!
