GT3 is my favorite

It had the best version of Grand Valley IMO. Easily the highest speed version of the course in any Gran Turismo. It wasnt bogged down by all the slow, overly technical corners that plagued it from GT4 and on. Very smooth and flowing, a blast to drive.

It also had the best version of SSR11. A track which has not appeared in any GT since. SSR11 (GT3 version) is by far and away the best original GT track with Grand Valley (GT3 version) coming in second.

GT3 had the best lineup of endurance races ever seen in a GT game. Trial Mountain 2 hours was insanely fun to race as it was limited to road cars. And then of course the granddaddy of them all, 60 laps of SSR11 All Night.

I just remember having the most fun with GT3.

If you look back the same sort of thing happened with GT4. Watching a GT3 replay of Trial Mountain the sun beams shining through the trees coming up the final hill is just stunning/marvelous. Watch the same thing on GT4 and its dull and lifeless in comparison.
The developers are working with finite resources and there's only so much optimization that can be done. More features often means a performance hit in some area.

Funny how so many people are complaining about GT6 and yet it's currently the highest-voted game in the poll. :D

Anyway, I too think GT6 is the best GT so far. The physics are just awesome, and the AI is a definite step above GT5's. The only thing I really don't like about it is the arcade mode with 10 cars and no fuel and tire wear. Other than that, it's pure awesome!

Gran Turismo as a series just feels like a natural progression of physics, graphics and content. The games have always aimed for a somewhat realistic driving experience and the series has always kept to the same formula.

Sure replaying the older games can still be fun, but arguing they're the better Gran Turismo games is hard to justify when GT6 improves on pretty much everything. It's not like in other genres where the older games are radically different with different stories, settings and game styles.

Talking about which Gran Turismo was the most influential however is a totally different story...

It improves on some things I'll agree, but not going to lie kind of missed the animated Pit Stops of GT4 to be exact.

Other things though it doesn't like Rallying which has been in GT since GT2 if I'm not mistaken has become extinct at this point.

Basically at this point all GT6 and GT5 have tried to do is make a better GT3 and GT4 because the only new ground breaking thing in either at this point besides physics and graphics is course creator's.

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd include all the things GT4 had in it along with GT3 as well.

Yeah why on earth would you remove the fuel and tire wear option from arcade mode - PD what were you thinking? If it is about not wanting new players to accidentally enable those features then put it under advanced settings for pete's sake  Perhaps those features will return in a future update ...

Sorry for double post, but to point this out that's what happens when you have a new product key word (NEW) it's even funnier that the gap between it and GT4 has become closer and closer last time I posted in this thread GT6 was running away with it.

Like someone mentioned earlier once the GT6 newness wears off it will be judge as it should be, and that's already happening with some right now.

GT1 in last place on consoles with only 3% of the votes..

You should all be ashamed of yourselves! (or have been born earlier) ;)

GT1 was groundbreaking and eye opening back in '98, just for that it shouldn't be in last place compared to later GT's that just copy pasted from their previous versions, and brought nothing fresh to the genre anymore...

Why is bringing something fresh to the genre required for being good? GT1 was great for its time but it has a lack of features, modes, content, worse physics, etc compared to the other games.

To an extent, sure, but just because YOU don't like GT6 as much as everyone else doesn't mean they aren't judging it as it should be. Kind of an odd thing to say...

Maybe you don't understand how ground breaking the game was back then especially since it spawn one of Sony best selling franchises to date.

For me personally though I feel GT1 shouldn't be on this list because based on his post it's not fair to it(GT1 that is) it's competing with titles far advanced then anyone could have imagined back in late 90's on PS1 of all things.

Anyone who voted a number higher than 3 needs to get checked.

1 was amazing, 2 was also amazing. (Apart from the obvious rubber-band ai.)

And then you had 3, the peak of GT, after which it all went downhill in an understeering puff of smoke.

(3 also looks the best, even among the newer ones.)

Oh I do understand how far ahead of its time it was but being groundbreaking doesn't make it better...

GT3 was my least favorite of all the GTs. Only one I've been disappointed in but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It sacrificed a lot for eye candy...

I played every GT game from GT1 to GT6 , and the one that got me more impressed was GT4 , it had cars and tracks that the other games lacked. 700+ cars and numerous tracks coupled with amazing graphics , physics and a load of events made it my favourite although GT6 is really promissing.

Just look how polished this game was and it's already 12 years old! :

Edit: and look!! Fixed starts and a close race till the end!

That's why I said it doesn't even deserve to be bashed and just put in it's own Hall of Fame basically.

As for GT3 I must disagree yeah we didn't get 500 cars like GT2, but everything else about that game was pure fun, and simplistic as well. I haven't been a big fan of the Rallying part of GT since GT3 in fact. Plus only one that had the F1 cars to my knowledge as well that was fun of itself.

Actually one gripe I'm mad about with GT5 and GT6 they've ruined the Rome circuit for me I missed GT3 version of it that's just like side thing though.

Wow that put a smile on my face. Haven't touched GT3 since GT4 was released back in 05 and don't have the game anymore. I'll have a brand new copy soon and am looking forward to playing it all over again with my Fanatec clubsport gear on a hardware BC PS3

My PS3 doesn't like to play GT3 properly, so I unfortunately had to stop playing it a couple years ago when I sold my PS2.

Take a look at this.

For some reason 3 looks better than 4 and 5.

Also, I found that in the low level GT3 races, there is a very slight rubber banding, but when you get to something like the Pro JGTC, it's all gone.

In one of the races all the ai had an N/A tune on their JGTC cars, I had stock, it then took me over half the race to catch and pass them using tire strategy. Best GT racing I've ever had.

My favourite was the grand valley 300; if you worked on your racecar and set it up a bit down on HP compared to the AI bots; you could actually have a 300km race that made you work and think about your pit stop strategy, as the AI had a better pit strategy then i've seen in GT5 for example and didn't continue lapping as their tyres worn out.

The only thing that put me off Gran Turismo 3 was how hard you had to push down on the X button, I can't play more than 2 or 3 races before my thumb is aching like crazy.

Did anyone else have this problem? I usually find this problem with early PS2 racing games.

I love you, seriously, ma man...

Switch the throttle to the right analog stick. ;)

*Manly tears*

Gran Turismo 2 was always my favorite GT title, but it seems like so far that Gran Turismo 6 may beat it if I manage to keep enjoying it. GT6 just gives me that feel that I loved about the older GTs mixed with some factors that I like about the modern GTs.

Sadly I'd never played GT2, so the trophy has to go to GT4! I don't think I'll ever forget driving mission 34, compare THAT career mode with GT6, even the GT4 ver. Moon Over Castle is the best to me. Epic. Wake up PD.

GT3. Where else do you have 10 and 15 lap races as the norm?

The races after that are extremely short-sighted. I don't remember ever having to pit in any race besides endurance in games after GT3.

Think that's what I missed about GT3 as well plus top that off think after while we started seeing 20 lap races nearing the end.

Plus feel like the roads became narrower after GT3 for some reason maybe it's just me.

But the thing is, most people who use this forum are experienced GT drivers who have been with the series since its early days, myself included. That's why I believe that GT6 is in the lead because many people genuinely consider it the better game. Like I've said, there are niggling little things I don't like about it, but it improves in all the most important areas of a racing simulator: physics, sound (at least a little), car count, etc. Now I hate to say it, but I've a hunch that one of the main reasons GT4 has so many votes is (admittedly well-deserved) nostalgia. To me the main question is, will it go on to hold the same nostalgic value as GT4 does now? Only time will tell.

No it's still because of it's Hype/Newness trust me even experienced people get won over at times by Hype and other things at the end of the day GT6 might as well be GT5 with new coat of paint.

In fact a game I'm sure most people are familiar with that after the Hype/Newness began to wear off is GTA V at the time of release Perfect game after awhile once you finish the story and take a step back it's not even better than GTA SA(arguably best in the series).
