They all have their pluses and minuses, but it's difficult to objectively compare titles since they were made for different systems. GT2 was great but I can't go back to the PS1 graphics. I played GT4 quite a bit and liked it, but there were things lacking like weather and day/night transitions. So far GT6 is my favorite, but there are things missing that were in GT5, etc.

What it boils down to is it seems each title has something another one doesn't. Not saying anything new here, but the biggest thing are that cars (and definitely tracks) from earlier titles are absent in the latest ones.

For a quick example, GT6 has by far the best weather and scenery effects, but why can't I run practice laps with fuel and tire usage on like GT5? I liked the museum feature of GT5 but it's gone in GT6, but I prefer the menus and garage in GT6 over GT5. And the list goes on.

Going back to GT's 1-3, I really can't recall much about them since it's been at least 7 years since I've played any of them. I'm actually disappointed I traded in #2 & #3 since I want to go back and try them again. I'm itching to go pick up a used copy, but I just wish the PS Store offered them (if the price was right).

I guess might need to go one step further then and say got to compare them to what was out during the time period.

Plus how those games affected the racing genre even if it's Arcade or Simulator

Cause if we do that GT6 would definitely lose and honestly GT1-3 probably would win.

Like I said long ago don't even remember the thread Gran Turismo benefitted big time from being that first game out of the gate like GT1 was the first racing game like that I even remember there were probably others, but they weren't as popular/big as GT1 was.

Same thing with GT3 came out first and it was the first racing game I played on PS2.

Where the buck finally stopped was GT5 between early 2005 - late 2010 I don't know about you, but I've played a many number of racing games each good at something they did, or just better in some ways to GT5.

Again just like with GT6 between 2010 - 2013/2014(since it came out so late) Again many games I've played that have done a lot of things just much better.

In fact I almost bet that if GT5 came out back in 2006/2007 when PS3 was first launched basically it would be a better reception then 2010. I still feel those are some of the reasons why it suffered so bad.

Yeah we have to judge each game how it was for the time, ofcourse GT6 has the most cars and tracks(?) (thanks to assets from older games!) One good way to compare the GT's is looking at the step up from odd number to even. GT2 was a big step up to GT1 in terms of content (cars and tracks), same with GT3 to GT4. I can't see the same jump regarding GT5 into GT6 however, even with three years development time.

I can`t believe how close GT4 and GT6 are. And even more so because I did not play GT4 at all.

Go back get a PS2 if you can and just play the darn thing already lol.

As someone who at least got into GT with PS2 I can assure you compared to what GT5 or GT6 brought to the table it's not even close.

Photo Mode, B-spec, and even 24H Endurance plus other things I've forgotten over the years although GT5 and GT6 have those it still hasn't brought a lot besides the official Day/Night Cycles and Course Maker.

Know what? I am a PSOne guy with GT1 and 2 on my card. Skipped PS2 back in the days. But I already bought a PS2 GT4 bundle edition that is waiting since months.
I blame god for not giving us 36 hours days...

I love Gran Turismo 6! It's what Gran Turismo 5 should have been. The graphics are sweet as always and I like the cosmetic updates that Polyphony made. The menu feels quicker and easier to navigate through with R1 and L1. Some folks complained about the micro transaction and the ability to buy credits, but I really like that part too. I already spend a decent amount on downloadable content for other games like Skyrim or Call of Duty... plus, some of the cars are extremely hard to acquire or earn. I'd rather not grind all day long or complete 24hr 350lap races. That's retarded.

Awwww I was all onboard to agree with you when you said you like GT6 because it's what GT 5 should have been because you're spot on.

But then you liked the microtransactions.

Owwwwwwhh nooooo.... Sad panda.

Microtransactions like the one in GT 6 ruin the game because they keep prices to high for those of us who buy a game and then don't expect to pay more money to play the game. Fortunately PD came to their senses and not only lowered car prices but brought back the login bonus and nice payouts for seasonal events.

For me the best is GT2. That game really pushed PS1 to it's limits and I just like the overall "feeling" of the game, big part of it being the excellent music. While the driving was more realistic than in GT1, it still kept it fun.
My overall list would probably be:
GT2
GT3
GT5
GT1
GT4
I haven't played GT6 or the PSP version yet, so I can't say anything about those :embarrassed:.

My list goes GT4 = GT6 > GT2 > GT5 > GT3, never played the original or psp and just found 3 to be the most underwhelming entry in the whole series. I have 4 listed so high because it renewed my interest in the series after I had been so disappointed with 3.

If I made my vote before 1.7 and Senna Content information, I would have said GT4, but now I say GT6 is the best (they got rid of lots of bugs).

I actually found GT6 much smoother than GT5, it had some glitches here and there, but wasn't as apparent as it was in GT5.

Honestly I loved every Gran Turismo game from gt1 to gt6 and Wow i never known that most people will vote to gt6 i thought they hate gt6 in every aspect of it. I think because upcoming updates including Ayrton Senna's F1 and kart. But i vote to gt4 for now until the promised features comes.

Well... If we just consider the game in its release date then I think GT4 is the best GT of all time.

GT6 may become the best, but with updates, DLC, patchs, etc. I really hope so...

Gran Turismo 4 - my most nostalgic, emotional, epic, useful, teaching game ever!

I'm feeling you man... The best, the most beautiful and the most exciting GT ever. When I was a little kid I loved it, and I'm only 15. I will never forget it! Great progress for the PS2. Awesome soundtracks, ESPECIALLY the "What to Believe" of Daiki Kasho and the "From The East To The West" of Isamu Ohira.

I don't understand how you guys aren't voting for 2!? The even numbered GTs appear to be better than odd numbered ones. GT 2 is the best because it's the biggest improvement over a predecessor. 2 had so many new features over 1 it was amazing.

1) Wheel Shop - this was a big deal. If you're a car fan how could you not like this (GT6 should've had more selection like GT4)
2) More cars - insane amount. Also some cars that have yet to appear again in any other GT game (bring them back!!!)
3) Intro to Rally - back then we really didn't car about physics so much just plain old fun (thank you GT6 for awesome physics)
4) More tracks - Oh midfield raceway how I miss you
5) Improved music - Some of the best in the franchise so relaxing & soothing.
6) Best cinematic intro - dat vignette opening with historic racing footage
7) Improved UI - The layout was nice and the added shortcuts on all screens was a good idea.
8) Intro to Special Events - Manufacture race events available in normal and/or race style (why isn't this in GT6 for every make?)
9) Someone come up with a #9....

Impressive list no?

GT4 was perfect except for the physics and weather system (should have weather system since it has 24hrs races)

GT6 is better in terms of physics but that's about it.

@MRXAE86: Gran Turismo 2 also had a bug that ate your entire garage. It bit me hard 4 times. It was better than Gran Turismo 1, but once that bug came, it was just pure rage.

How is GT6 doing so well? People having not played the earlier game or not judging them against their time, rather than today?
People voting for GT2, 4 & 6 are how we keep getting games like GT5 & GT6.

Really, the best canon game was GT3. And then GT1. I do wish they'd go back and play through GT1 again and make GT7 like that.

GT2 and GT3 are the two games I remember most fondly to be honest. GT2 just because it added so much over GT1 and GT3, i'm not sure, perhaps because it was the full package of consistency on the new console and did everything just right.
