my money goes to ti-tech, although theres takeuchi, elder and not to forget eddskill + many more (l1a2r3, dholland, eclipsi, outburner and a few more)
we'll see how it unforlds, 8-5 ill deffo be for real (unlike jokes we have now with no replay value)

I've got a question, let's say you aren't consistently in the top 10 but good enough to make it through to the top 16 (let's say you were the 16th individual). Is there still a chance to come out as the winner? Will the judges be looking for someone who comes in 1st place all the time during the finals (aka boot camp)?

United States - VELOCI_2NR
France - Silex95
Croatia - Zoky_CRO
Poland - GTPL_Mato
Japan - Takeuchi01
Australia - GTP_DHolland

My five bets for a few contenders in the finals.

I am hanging out in 33rd right now in Round 6-5! :) Soon to be dropped to at least 100th.

Jann came 11th in last years TT (I think it was 11th) and he won, it's your performance at the finals that will carry you through to the next round :)!

Not sure how they plan on doing it this year, but at the last National Finals you were put into a bunch of races and you were awarded a certain number of points based on your finishing position. I think there were two elimination rounds, and the final 16 with the most points advance to Silverstone.

Bryan had the most points last year, I tied for 2nd or 3rd with Chris (3_wide) after I made a couple stupid mistakes that cost me a win and a good finish. :yuck:

Carl went to the National Finals last year but was eliminated. He could definitely make it again. There are also several people in the US who have not shown what they have 100% yet...

Also, try to limit the text speak in your posts. Against the AUP. ;)

I wont be at any finals if I qualify as with previous years... I'm just taking part for fun and see how I finish in the UK rankings with the online part of the comp 👍 I've been very busy with work the last few days, but will try out the new tests at the weekend and try to stay in the top 5 UK overall as a target just to keep me interested :)

Good luck to all in the remaining rounds

There'll be 32 finalist in total for each region right? 16 from TT and another 16 from live events. Correct me if i'm wrong

It'll be top 32 from each region that has a GT Academy, and from there, they'll meet in person and race head to head until they have the top 16, who then go to Silverstone for the final part of the competition.

Not sure if its different in the US but to quote the EU site:-

"The National Final Events which bring together the top 16 players from each region are planned for July. The top 6 players who pass this difficult stage can then move forward to the final selection round held at the Silverstone Race Camp in August. At the Race Camp contestants performance will be overseen by top racing talent including former F1 driver Johnny Herbert and others. Over several days participants will be tested for not only their driving skill, but for their physical fitness and mental strengths as well.

From these gruelling few days also known as the ‘Boot Camp’, just one winner is selected. The winner will then immediately go on to participate in the Driver Development Programme to obtain their International Racing Licence and be considered for a chance to debut as a professional racing driver for Nissan in the Dubai 24 Hour Race held in January of 2013.

Additionally this year, top winners from each country at Race Camp may also be selected to be given a chance to participate in a national level race for Nissan."

So it looks like 6 from each region will be going to 'boot camp'.

Hope this helps :)

For the USA:

Top 32 from round 8-5 move on to the National Finals where they will compete head-to-head. Top 16 go to Silverstone.

You mean to say they're going to fly myself and 31 other people from the States to Orlando for the Finals? That seems like an awful lot of people?

If the National Finals are in Orlando again. Don't think they have officially announced that. And yes, that is correct.

I don't have much time to get some swim trunks!! Ah man I'm so white...they'll know I'm an out-of-towner for sure.

EDIT: This is one massive competition.

You won't be going anywhere but where they take you.

No free time. ;)

Diggin the confidence. Shouldn't count your chickens before they are hatched though. There is a lot people that aren't showing there true colors in these rounds. Once 8-5 hits look out there will be super stiff competition.

Now I'd be interested in seeing a video of the foot and hand work that goes into a fastest time. I can watch replays all day long but they're still replays at the end of the day. I want to see the person putting down the lap/corner(s). I want to see how fast they're turning into these turns and I want to see them tap dancing on the pedals. Know what I'm saying? Man it's late/early.

you would have to go through hours of footage of bad runs to find the one good one

I'm just having a little fun. :sly:

One thing I love about GT5 and any racing game if I'm honest is finding time, it's something I enjoy to do. Personally as those who race me know I never, ever accept a lap as being the fastest whether I'm rank 10 or 10,000. So 8-5 should be extremely fun I'm just happy we can compete with the Japanese on the same leaderboard, and in general all the countries. I'm glad PD have done it this way with a global leaderboard as it promotes competition which is most enjoyable thing in any game :)! I'm looking forward to seeing who gets the crown as the fastest GTer this year. If I was to put any bet on anybody though worldwide I'd have to look at Takeuchi or Zoky_Cro but lets see what it brings :)!

Aslongs I make the nationals I'll be happy, but you will find my pushing until the last hour for the ever improvement of time, my personal goal is Rank 1 UK (I know that will be highly sought after so it should be great fun to compete for!), and if the car/track combo suits my style hopefully top 10/5/3/1 :D? worldwide, but I flexy saved up at work for just that little extra time to get home and get some TTing done :D!

I think it will be a battle between Takeuchi, Ti-Tech, Outburner, and DHolland for #1 after 8-5. I don't wanna bet as to who comes out on top.

I would actually like to bet as to how i'll place relative to the global leaderboards. I'm sure everyone will be going balls out on this event...so a conservative guess would be in the 500's :|

I can't wait for round 8-5. It will be good to see everyone pushing their hardest and to see where I can finish :)
