Why do I enjoy Gran Turismo?

The great races that ensue when cars of equal or similar power are placed together on the same track. That, alone, is a major factor in why GT is great. To see famous cars from different countries, together in a race, is just amazing. The matchups which ensue are brilliant as each car has something new to offer. The sounds magnify the experience and the graphics are always top notch.

But again, it's the collection of well-known cars together in a competition to a single finish. Even when you lose, it's fun because the cars are the stars and not me.

I suppose it replicates the car lifestyle I want in real life but could never afford (without the draw backs), car collecting, tuning, pushing all sorts of exotic, rare, odd and old cars to the limits on the greatest tracks on earth. No other game/sim can provide that to the extent GT has yet.

It's all about the cars and thats what GT is really good at.

Two Three Five Many reasons

1. I love cars.
2. I love games.
3. Provides the opportunity to potentially improve my own driving skills.
4. Gives me the opportunity to drive cars I can't drive/afford, yet.
5. Car porn
6. Speeding without the risk of being arrested.

because it provides a great challenge and really is one of the most realistic games, the depth to it is also amazing, and i love inclusion of less "desirable" cars which makes it nice as our everyday cars are likely to be included.

i also play gran turismo because you can't take bends at ridiculous speeds like you can in some games... other people call it boring, but its because they cant understand racing, and believe its possible to take sharp turns at 150mph onwards lol

That is the bad idea of bad ideas. When you first step into a car. Forget everything you know about GT.

This.
If you drive in reality like you do in GT, you will lead a very short life.
Follow what your instructor says, and don't try anything clever like heel-toe or leftfoot braking.

I play GT because I enjoy how different it is from other driving/racing games. I find it a lot more enjoyable to race online with friends in GT than in other games, Forza for instance.

I also love the slight 'anoraky-ness' of it. Driving the more obscure cars is one of my favorite parts of the game. Oh, and the used car dealerships 👍

Can think of a few occasions where pumping the brakes has saved me from sailing through locked up. Was just force of habit from playing GT.

Other than that you're spot on. Does teach you about racing lines, but this doesnt apply to the roads.

I play because I love cars. GT has always had the most amount and the best looking.

Is it realistic? I'm sure its not the most realistic (I have a very small amount of track time). However, its easy to get into but tough to master. Its great when you get it right.

Ignore.

Simple, I can't afford to race in real life, this is the closest I'm going to get, and it is a strangely addictive game, I'm not exactly sure why, in fact, it's the only game I play, sure I dabble a little in other games, but this one has become part of my life, weird.....

I wouldn't say forget everything you know, I'd say don't drive like you drive in GT, flat out everywhere, then you will surely die.

GT has helped me understand how a car behaves at high speed and my experiences from GT have more than once saved my ass in real life.

Previous to getting into GT I was an idiot in a car who didn't know what I was doing, now I know the theory behind driving a car I don't do the dumb ass stuff I used to !

Sorry for double post, I thought this was a different thread, ooops

I love it just because of how close the physics of them game is. It's challenging in that you can try to beat your own time or other's time online which makes it THAT much better.

GT4 just seemed to never end and amaze me. Trawling through the hundreds of cars in the dealers trying to get something for 20,000 and then tuning and refining it to race with the big stuff was just so entertaining for me :)

The Graphics, The Cars, The Tracks, The Physics, The Sounds, The Adrenaline, The Fun, The Gameplay. No other game can compete. END OF.

I play it for the feeling of being on the limit, and trying to be the fastest/best. And I just love racing cars in general.

I love cars, racing and the adrenalin rush of karting and watching races.

I've played GT ever since 98 and consider it to be the best racing series for a game ever. GT>all

I NEED it!! I've actually managed to substitute sustenance and sleep with GT4 and GT5p.

I shall be replacing oxygen with GT5 when it is released.

I'm 17, I heel & toe, and each time I do it I can hear the clutch of the car saying:"thanks, dude!". I use to "leftfoot" braking when It's possible, that allows me to quickly correct understeer when needed.

like pokemon "gotta catch them all"(cars that is). I do think online multiplayer if implemented correctly will change my racing habits. Was a big fan of rfactor.

Rev matched downshifts via heel and toe is a perfectly fine technique to use on the roads, its more mechanically sympathetic, not to mention enabling far smoother downshifts, as the clutch does not have to drag the engine up to the speed of the wheels.

I started practicing the moment I passed my test and its now second nature.

I play GT because it's relaxing, yet challenging. Grab a random car, take it to time trial and just let yourself become an extension of the car itself.
