What have we got to loose by doing something about it now? - the worlds energy companies don't make the huge profits their shareholders want? - i'll shed few tears over that!

If there was evidence...yes I'd worry, but when the experts can't agree amongst themselves as to whether climate will heat up or cool down, I'm not convinced. But this summer hasn't been the hottest on record, or the autumn the wettest...there have been huge storms in this country in the 1980's...weather moves in cycles, and I feel we have little influence over it.

When it comes to reducing pollution, yes thats a good idea, but the scare stories of Global warming due to greenhouse gas emission are just that...scare stories. Have you seen any pictures of London during the victorian years, or any major industrial city in UK post industrial revolution, like Birmingham, or Sheffield...the sky was thick with pollution, London was famous for its "pea soupers" from the burning of fossil fuels. The Black Country in UK is was named after its black skys during the day, after the clean air act was passed, it is now no longer black.

I can check, but I think there is less pollution now than there has been! Catalytic converters, the focus on efficient combustion, in gas fires, engines, in fact everything.

This is exactly the sort of narrow minded answer that only fuels the percentage, which i'm frankly suprised is so low!

No, this ^^^ is exactly the narrow minded answer that only fuels the percentage.

Its not the fact that he has a criminal record, its should be more the fact that if he was twice as inteligent as he is - he would be considered a retard.

Good response. That's a well thought out stand on that issue. You should be proud.

- have you not seen the results of Global Warming in the past few months?
- do you really want the 'gulf-stream' to stop - resulting in britain becoming almost Arctic?
- do you not care whether your children or grandchildren inherit a world that is habitable?

The planet operates on a slightly longer timeline than you and I do. I don't think even 50 years is enough time to see a deviation in global patterns. Technology will change before it causes any real damage and people will complain about the new stuff - which will change before it causes any real damage.

Great 'stick-your-head-in-the-sand-and-hope-the-problem-goes-away' answer that 👍

- lets not do anything about it now, lets leave it for someone else to sort out :dunce:

Technology will only improve matters if govenments start ploughing some decent money into it, instead of giving tax-breaks to those companies who polute the most!

it is causing real damage NOW! - and 'technology' doesn't do things on its own - its not magic, it needs manpower and money invested in it before anything will change

With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes.

Interesting claim. Not really “legitimate” though. According to the rules, Bush won the election. So the word “losing” here is really out of place.

I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American history

Ok.

I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money.

And Texas hates him so much now that they elected another Republican to office and will send Bush their electoral votes in the next election…. bankrupted the state… Let me see the figures. Texas is doing quite well, unlike the mess California was left with after Davis (democrat) got finished spending all of its money.

I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America.

And this is the fault of the oil companies or the fact that Houston is growing bigtime and is full of huge pickup trucks that get 3 miles per gallon? Texans like their trucks. I love how everything is fault of the oil companies. Nobody wants to take responsibility. Houston isn’t that bad, I’ve spent quite a bit of time there and I prefer the air there to LA where I live.

With the help of my father and our friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas.

Didn’t we already talk about this?

I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money.

I think this is legitimate.

I began my career in the oil business in Midland, Texas in 1975. I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock.

If he’d made lots of money that would be a bad thing too right? So he made a bad business move… big deal. I’m sure he learned from it. That’s 3 steps closer to being qualified to run a country than some lawyer who extorts companies for money.

I ran for U.S. Congress and lost.

I didn’t know that. Interesting. Turns out he ran in 1978. Back when nobody knew who the hell he was. Name recognition is bigtime in politics isn’t it?

I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was
a cheerleader.

Couldn’t find anything about him being a cheerleader, not that it bothers me. Here’s an article about his grades (and a bunch of other history that’s a lot less relevant than his last 4 years in office). Apparently he carried a 77 cumulative average and took a heavy course load. But hey we all know he’s not the brightest guy. Good thing he has bright advisors.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/campaigns/wh2000/stories/bush072799.htm

I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam.

This is making a fact out of something that’s hotly disputed – that Bush went AWOL. We all know that Bush did cocaine already. This quote makes it sound like a bad thing that Bush joined the national guard. It’s funny that these same people didn’t have a problem with Clinton who was a real draft dodger and who smoked dope. When the shoe is on the other foot it’s all fair game I guess.

I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pleaded guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available.

Yup. Does it matter if his driving record has been “lost” if we know that he was arrested for drunk driving. We’d know if it happened again, so the record is not important. Yes drunk driving sucks, but I think the laws had just changed or something?? I seem to remember something about the blood alcohol limit changing in Texas and him being just on the other side of it? Regardless, we all knew that Bush did some stupid things when he was younger. That hasn’t stopped him from being resolute in the White House and running the war on “terror” (notice that doesn’t say the war on Osama Bin Laden or the war on Afghanistan). It hasn’t stopped him from doing the right thing for the economy or over spending on social programs or health care. What he has done in the white house has been far more important than what he did when he was a kid.

DONE!!!!!

I covered all the points! Not that it was hard, and not that it would have been hard to do the same thing to an email slamming Kerry. The important thing is where these guys stand on the issues and what they plan to do with the country.

Great 'stick-your-head-in-the-sand-and-hope-the-problem-goes-away' answer that

That's really not what I said is it?

- lets not do anything about it now, lets leave it for someone else to sort out

Also not what I said.

Technology will only improve matters if govenments start ploughing some decent money into it,

Not really true.

instead of giving tax-breaks to those companies who polute the most!

Show me that that is being done.

it is causing real damage NOW!

Show me the data. Oh, I forgot, the data doesn't support this claim.

- and 'technology' doesn't do things on its own - its not magic, it needs manpower and money invested in it before anything will change

No shi*!

Whats wrong with that!
Most prisoners who are sentened to death have to wait years before they are finally executed. In interviews that I have seen, most would like the process speeded up rather than waste away in a cell waiting for their death. So good on Bush for cutting through some of the red tape.

I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money.

Yep...even the Whitehouse.gov website's biography mentions this as a plus point.

Even if it was a low C average, he's still a Yale Graduate! Are there any others here :)

Edit: The email is just a smear campaign, it's dirty tactics but we all know it goes on. There will no doubt be one circulating making innacurate claims about Kerry. The sad thing is though, there are alot of people who would prefer to believe a negative comment about someone they dislike rather than question it, or ask for proof.

I read frequently people label Bush a "Socialist." Is this true? Can you provide me proof of this statement? I would like to know, on a serious level. I believe in a county with a free enterprise system, and would hate the idea of a Socialist in control. So, let me see some proof now, please.

Well, I only hope you guys over there have more sense than the greedy self-interested masses over here in Australia, who happily voted in our very own 'lying little rodent', and your President Bush's favourite sheriff John Howard for another term.

And what was the main concern for these people?
Was it the disaster that is the Iraq war?
or our inhumane treatment of refugees?
no, it was interest rates.

Yes, there has been inaccurate criticism of Bush, and over here of Howard in the months leading up to their respective elections, but there has also been ALOT more well-grounded criticism.

I think any decent person would be very worried if we continued to live in a world governed by people who put personal gain before anything else.

This was a significant win for Australia. 👍

Oh, wait. Let me lower my IQ! Wait for it...

Bush blows.

Kerry blows Edwards.

Welcome to the real world. That's how human beings have been engineered for thousands of years and we're not about to stop now. I think any decent person should be worried if we try to live in a system that ignores basic human behavior.

By the way, I think it's one of our best traits that we put personal gain way up on the list. It's brought us quite far.

true, but i bet some very bad people said the same thing. However, if i vote for you, you better damn well be working for my gains, not yours! Elected officials are elected to serve the masses, not them selves. If your a private business operator, of course your in it for yourself. But elected officials SHOULD not have personal gains at the top of their list.

One could argue that their biggest personal gain is to stay in office. In which case they have to take care of their constituents.

yes, wipe out other humans in order to get what you want...
our glorious leaders are very good at that arent they

That might be the world you want to live in, but it certainly isn't for me..

Wow. So an overwhelming majority in Australia is manipulated? And you are one of the few who aren't "sucked in" by Bush's and Howard's lies? Why, then, are you so powerless to do anything about it?

By the way, I think it's one of our best traits that we put personal gain way up on the list. It's brought us quite far.

So has the realisation that personal gain is often best served by working together as a community. One day you'll understand that ... ;) It would be an interesting exercise to see how libertarian, liberal and socialist (which is not communist as some people seem to have trouble to understand) strategies of cooperation would influence gtplanet if they were to be applied and upheld strictly.

I bet that in the end we'd agree that the fundamentally different principles we think we stand for translate to reality with hard to distinguish differences. For the record, I am not an extremist myself. I just prefer to pick whatever works best in any given situation, and usually it is a mixture of socialist and liberal thought.

So has the realisation that personal gain is often best served by working together as a community. One day you'll understand that

I'm one step ahead of you. The way to best get people to work togther as a community is if they're all working for their own maximum personal gain. People quickly realize that they need to work together and that together they can each achieve the most for themselves individually.

A company that wants to sell lemonade finds out quickly that it should not try to grow it's own lemons and sugar.

Working together we can achieve more. People will naturally form a very organized system (and have for the past 200 years) when left to their own devises. One thing that is required for this to happen, however, is that basic rights and laws be enforced.

I'm voting for Kerry for so many reasons that I dont even want to get into online. Bush is one of the worst presidents in modern history.

Valid criticism. The only defense against this is that he pretty much had to run a deficit to win the war on terror. I personally don’t think the deficit should be nearly as high as it is though.

I love it, lmao, always the same "war against terror" thing. I mean come on, this aint war against terror, its war for terror? If you want war against terror mr bush, bomb half of the god damn world!

and what sthe deal with clinton, was he so bad?

and what sthe deal with clinton, was he so bad?
Clintons 22 million new payrol jobs is a very impressive stat, but how much credit can he take for it, as he didn't have direct control over the economy. On the plus side he did create the environment in which those companies could expand resulting in new jobs.

If I wanted to throw mud at Clinton I could say he was an adulterous President that lied under oath and the second in history to be impeached.

I laugh at K_Speed's sources. Anti Bush dot com? Oh yeah, such a reliable and accurate source!

The current unemployment rate is 5.4%. The rate when Clinton left office was 5.6%. The average rate in Europe (that means you, K_Speed) is 9%. Get your facts straight, K_Speed.

(Source: US Department of Labor)

This is about the US not Europe.

Yeah, sorry for the bad source...I must apologize

go vote for bush. and then attack the oterh "evil" countries ont this earth (he said it himself). Next attack Iran, yes! theyre next arnt they bush.....and then go for north korea..uhh theyre evil too bush, yes yes. They have nuclear weapons! OMG.

Isnt it lovely how they all just die and you think youre bringing peace to this earth....

What do you suggest, K_Speed, o-intelligent one?

Let Iran gain nuclear weapons? Let North Korea threaten it's neighboring countries with nuclear weapons?

Maybe the US should have just stood back and let the Third Reich rape Germany and the rest of Europe.
