My expeditions when the cars arrive for the rest race in Australia.
- The cars WILL have 4 wheels
- Sebastian Vettel will still be world champion
- The Ferrari will be red
- Max Chilton will still be Max Chilton
- Susie Wolff will still be attractive.

Shut up.

Ok after hearing them in person I can say that they don't sound as bad as I thought, but they're 1/10 as loud as the V8s. I know I could be deaf, or exaggerating a little, but you can hardly hear the cars at all from the circuit's entrance, near the RUF building. You could hear the V10s 5 minutes before you reach the track. Just as a comparison.

BIC staff were disappointed that the distinct sound of F1 cars is gone. I don't blame them, they sound like your average everyday racing car now. Which isn't really bad, I like the GT3 cup's sound, but it's not F1.

What did you think when their where multiple cars? Any better?

When I went there the cars were pretty spaced out. Couldn't tell. I don't think it'll be possible to see a track that busy until the closing moments of Q1 or Q2.

Edit

I guess this goes in here; Interesting post-testing pre-season analysis from BBC. Button's comment at the end about Ricciardo's performance in the turns is slightly worrying... unless you're an IBR fan :)
"I was driving with Ricciardo for quite a few laps and he couldn't get past me on the straights. He overtook me around the outside of Turn 11 instead, which is a high-speed left-hander. I've never seen anything like that before"

You're right. That does sound scary. I hope they don't win either titles at Abu Dhouble*.

Cant remember where I read or heard that but it's hilarious if you speak Arabic.

They are still two and a half seconds off the fastest lap times. Ricciardo might have been running with Button, but at the time, McLaren had already done most - if not all - of their one-lap pace programme. Everyone at Red Bull still reckon they will need retirements to get points in Melbourne.

It's implied that both cars were doing high fuel runs, not qualifying runs. That wasn't really the point anyway. We're not talking about Melbourne. It's how much more downforce RB have that enabled RIC to take Button on the outside of 11. It does mean that if they do finish the race, granted they don't do that by cutting the engine power severely, they WILL be challenging for wins again.

Except that after the final Bahrain test, Christian Horner admitted that the team has no idea how to fix their problems. It's more than just the engine - the car itself is causing its own issues.

Can't fix them without compromising the aero, maybe. As I understand their issue is with cooling. Their temporary fix that let them actually run the car was drill holes near the sidepods and turn down the power unit. So yeah, if they do somehow finish a race at full power, they will be challenging. Unless their solution is to compromise the downforce they showed against Button.

Again, I'm not just talking about Melbourne or any race in the near future. I doubt they'll finish the next few races unless their new package fixes everything.

Button gave an interview where he didn't seem in any doubt that IRB had plenty of downforce in hand, he described Ricciardo effortlessly overtaking him on the outside of a fast left-hander.

That means IBR potentially have room in the envelope to 'grab' more air, but they certainly don't look to be in good shape for Race 1. I can't wait :D
