Hey Masi! Sorry I wasn't at the last race. Went to visit some friends thinking I would make it home on time, then got mixed up with some alcohol and ended up getting home really late instead with a buzz. Anyway, for this race I have cleared my schedule so I will make it. Qualifying lap on its way! đź‘Ť

Damn life, always getting in the way :)

I'll be limited from here on out. Back to work and school.

To be clear, you submit a qualifying lap every race, this way, everyone can get a chance to race. We race in Laguna this week. Deadline is on Wednesday but you can submit one anytime, although you can only submit once! so make it count :)

Read Post 2 for details.

can we see average lap times we should be targetting for?

btw masi_23 im racing in a XANAVI NISMO GTR-08'

There's a couple of GT300 times up, but I don't see anything for GT500. Feel free to kick it off mate.

I'm in GT300, Lexus Wedsports... i''ve been running in thee high 1'23s so far. Need more fine tuning.

wow! im using a G25 steering wheel. do i have to use the clutch?

the car is a sequential race transmission box, i can use the sequential mode cant i?

OK, let me break the ice. I did 20 odd laps in practice mode on soft and managed a 1.18.4, but the lap is far from perfect.

Laguna is a challanging track to get a low lap time with its many fast corners. Very difficult to hit apex at the right entry speed on all corners. I think we will see a big difference in the fastest/slowest qual lap. Will be interesting to see what the unreal fast guys (Tony, Nissman, etc) will do. I will probably be shocked when I see their qual times/laps.

I don't think I will get anything near a perfect lap at Laguna. Great track though.

I have a Q..

Don't know if it has been up for discussion before, but how often is the races (the real championship) taking place? Every week? Every 2nd week? Once a mounth?

And about the startingtime for reaces. If it's around (or slightly ahead of) noon PST, it will make it a lot easier for us europeans to enter. Noon PST is between 8-12 pm in Europe I guess..

It will be every week barring any setbacks and other commitments (life/family). I will be out of town the first week of February, so there will most likely be a one week break.

Start time will be somewhere in the range of 11am up to 4pm PST.

What do you guys think of the length of schedule? More? Less?

Just as a heads up I'm going to have to miss the Laguna race, unfortunately it's exam period for me the next 2 weeks so gaming has to be cut down.

Personally, I think 6 race seasons are the ideal balance. Long enough to feel like a challenge, but short enough that people aren't mathematically eliminated too early. It's over fairly quickly so if stuff needs changing you're always not to far away from the next season instead of changing rules mid-season. And it allows you to use just the best tracks, instead of delving into stuff like Monaco to pad the season.

i notice some framerate issues with the video at certain times, but not sure if its the pcs i've been using or the actual video itself
anyways, thats the proof of my qualifying lap for the 2nd preseason race

Hi mate, that lap is on Monaco. Shouldn't you be racing on Laguna? :)

EDIT: Sorry you said 2nd race :) I thought the upcoming was the second, as I didn't race the 1st

My best at Laguna is probably 19.1 from what i can recall. Don't worry about me.

I'm not worried about you :sly:. If I can be only 1-2 sec slower than you per lap, I'm very proud of myself.

My lap/time is in practice mode where there is in my opinion much more grip than online. I'm sure you submit a qual time in the 1.16.x. Hopefully not much faster, but I will not get depressed if you do.

I think that the season shoul be 8 races every 2 weeks. Thinking about family and friends, it's not that good for my real life to dedicate every friday or saturday to gameing. Also it gives you som time to practice and tune your car as well. With a race every week, it's not much else you can do with your sparetime than practicing, tuning, qualifying to be competative in the race. With 2 weeks between the races it gives me some time to do other things than just work, train, and play GT5.. I need my friends and family as well :) Feels like you guys have been my family the last couple of weeks :)

Good lord, how long do you spend practising? I'd spend maybe half an hour practising to get to know the course in the chosen car, maybe another half hour tweaking the setup, and an hour knocking out a decent qualifying time. Two hours over the course of a week is not excessive, I feel.

You could do much less than that if you had a good grasp of the track already, or had a decent generalist setup on your car that you didn't need to modify, or didn't worry about squeezing out those final three tenths from your qualifying lap. I reckon if you knew what you were doing and were methodical about it you could bang out your prep for the week in an hour.

You're unlikely to win like that unless you were Jesus on wheels to begin with, but that's the price you pay for putting in less time. To a certain extent more time is always going to yield a better result. It's up to you whether the time put into a racing game to get a couple of places higher up the results list is worth more than time with your family and friends. It's certainly possible to have an enjoyable and competitive race on very little prep time.

What day of the week?

I also vote for races every other week.

Any of you GT500 (FR car) drivers that have some suspension tips? I can't manage to get my time under 1:20,9xx.
It may be because i use DS3 i don't really know.

Races every other week sounds good to me too đź‘Ť

Good lord! I hope you understand that my intention was'nt to spend 2 weeks straight for practice and tuning, right? I was trying to inlighten the fact that people have life outside of GT5. And if you are such a good tuner and can set up a car, and get a good Q-lap in 2 hours-good for you. I need around 4 hours. Main reason is that I'm very interested, and find it wery challanging to squeze those extra tenth out of the car. And yes, 4 hours (2 for some) is not impossible to break loose in a week, but the fact that it puts me under sertain pressure makes me feel the races are a little bit close if held every week. But remember, those 4 (2) hours is before wednesday, and then we have the larger problem that I was trying to inlight. That every weekend, one evening (in europe) goes to online racing. So 4 (2) hours of tuning, and around 3 hours on a raceday makes a total of 7! hours a week. In my book, that's quite much. Ofc it depends on someones proritys, how much it interferes with your daily life. But what I'm trying to say is that if you have a job, train 5 times/week, have friends and family to care for, those 4 (7) hours, or even 2 hours (for master-tuners), can be hard to break loose from time to time. That is why I suggested races every 2 weeks.

For ME I find it stressful. How you feel about it on the other side of the planet is up to you, but it will not change my opinion in this matter. If a race is held every week, so be it. I'll race. I also think that the Championship will feel more exclusive if races are held every 2 weeks. Was just trying to get my opinion out there for Masi_23 to take part of.

I respect everybodys opinions, and I can also have a discution about things with someone. But I would never try to tell someone on a forum who I don't know at all, how many hours he/she should need to prep for a race. As if I knew what that persons life was like.

So please, have a discution with me about how you feel, and why you feel that way in a sertain matter. Don't just tell me how I should think/feel or handle it. Thank you.

How does the car feel? Do you want to get rid of under/oversteer? Does it occur when you enter, during or exiting the corners? Gear ratio?

I'd love to help. Just give me something to go by. And post your settings you are currantly usein aswell.

Here is my take on race frequency and prep time.

In short. More racing and less preparation. If spending a lot on prep and something stupid happens in the race you get more pissed than if you just prepared a bit.

I'm not going to spend too much time on the qual lap. Will just hope it will be enough to make it into Div 1. On soft in practice mode, there is so much grip so the same set-up pretty much work for all tracks. Its more about learning the track.

Initially I will spend some time trying to get a good hard tire set-up. Once found, some tweaks will be needed for each track but I will not go overboard.

Racing is what is really fun so I wouldn't want to cut it.

I hear you! But regardless if races are held every week or every 2 weeks, it's still the same amout of laps in the Championship. Also, with races every 2 weeks, the possibility to join other championships also exist. There are so many championships to take part of, so the only thing stopping one from racing is ones own time and prioritys. đź‘Ť

I'm not telling you how to feel about it. You said you spend almost all your free time a week qualifying and setting up, and then complained that it leaves you no time for your friends and family. That's just unhealthy, and I maintain the right to be shocked at that statement.

You have no idea whether I get a good setup in those two hours I spend, or whether I simply hack together something that works, blow out a moderately clean qualifying lap and then go out with my friends for a beer. I never said that it was possible to be perfect in two hours, just that two hours was the amount of time I spent on it to be comfortable. Your time spent will be different, mine is simply for comparison.

I'm telling you that it's your choice how much time you wish to spend on preparation. Technically, the minimum required preparation is a single qualifying lap. Plus whatever the race time is per week. Anything over that is entirely up to you.

Your value for time spent is going to be different to mine, depending on how much you like spending time with your friends and family and how much you like racing. I can't help you with that. I'm just saying that instead of making the race series longer for everyone, maybe the answer is to spend a little less time playing computer games and accept the fact that you're going to finish a little lower than you would otherwise. I recommend spending as much time with your family as you want to, and then play GT5 with whatever time is left. To me, my relationships with my friends and family are more important than playing GT5. If you feel like you HAVE to play GT5, you're probably doing something wrong.

Honestly, I'd prefer none of the preparation and such. Just show up and race. But that's not how this series works, so it's just part of the deal.

Whoa chill guys.... We need to figure out whats best... I'm all up for doing it every other week. Makes the series last a bit longer and we all can take our time with the prep work... đź‘Ť Lets see how Masi feels about it though since he is the organizer. Then we can move on to further discussion.

I would say that it understeer out of the corners, and then I contra apply, sometimes to much, gas and then it will be on the edge to oversteer. The car feels quite stiff, and I can't really keep pace through the track. I've tried some different setups doesn't really seem to work.

Now Johnkiller sent me a list of what I could do, and I havn't tried it out yet. But it would nice with some different setups from some of you fast drivers :)
