I would buy it one way or another! đź‘Ť :D It would be sad if damage is not implemented at all in future games, but for the time being, I can live with that. :) Day and night cycles, however, a must if there are 24 Hour races. I know it will be hard to implement, because with day and night cycles comes weather, in my opinion. When it's night, it's cold, and thus, it's a weather change. Not to mention that seeing the clouds statics in the sky as the lights go off would suck

Agreed, for the most part, day/night and weather are far more important to me. Though I have to say that I wouldn't be sad if GT5 was released without damage, it's no real biggy for me.

KY promised damage, PROMISED!!! He even promised damage in prologue by the end of 2008.

There was no damage update in Prologue so that was a lie. I think damage for GT5 proper is also a lie. They scrapped online racing last minute for GT4 so I wouldnt be suprised if it turns out they are no going to do damage. At the level KY expects and for the number of cars he wants in his games I doubt its really possible.

I don't think I would outright say im not buying it, but I would be dissapointed that something everyone else has managed to do has escaped the realms of PD's ability. I hope there will be something else to make up for its absense though.

Robin.

Yeah, about damage...

I just thought I'd give this thread a bump because of recent developments. Namely the new "leak" that has details about GT5, primarily involving a commonly recurring track list. Most noticeable is no mention of damage. Or weather for that matter. My gut feeling for some time now has been that damage would make it into GT5 at launch. Of course, my gut has lied to me before. This puts us all in an interesting position, those of us who have wanted damage, as well as those who insist IT HAS TO BE INCLUDED or you WON'T buy it, period.

E3 is a month away. What if it's nothing more than an intentional omission to heighten the impact of a Big Announcement of a Major Feature? But then, what if it means what I think it means?

What if Kazunori-dono goes through a huge presentation, and in the course of it says one of two things:

1. "I am sorry, but GT5 will not have damage... at launch. Just wait, and in time, you will not be disappointed by something truly unique to Gran Turismo."

2. "I am sorry, but GT5 will not have damage... at all. I am saddened that certain car companies will not allow it. And the prospect of a GT game where some cars suffer damage and others do not is unacceptable to me. While I am still in talks with the various car makers, I hope that you will be understanding of something so difficult."

I'm thinking number 2 is more likely, if it comes to this.

So what will some of you do? Change your minds? Stubbornly hold to your positions? Take a deep breath and smash something? ;)

I must say that I spent some time with GTR - with damage, and some time with Ferrari Challenge - with damage, as well as a few headaches, and I thought of racing in Forza 2 :D - with damage, and still, most of my game time yesterday was spent in... Prologue, which has zero damage.

I can't help it. Prologue is such a dream, and so close to my other games, even PC sims, that the visceral experience with a Logitech wheel controller is just awesome. And of course, the visuals have my eyes glued to the screen. The other PS3 games coming are just incredible, and I want them. But the one game I lust after is GT5, damage, weather, body kits and livery editor or not.

Of course, if there's no livery editor and race mod, I'll have to pick up that other game too... :sly:

the second sentence are the most possible, cuz he always tell such a words...so he wouldn't tell a news...(about licensing company)

for me if he told that will have an update in future, i can bet that we will never had it... cuz it's passed many days from the day that e told about a fall update, so if damage there will be, it will be at day one with the release of the game and not in future..sorry im italian..

however i will buy this game , it's normal... but if the costumization will be like gt4 with no addition visual or phisical i will be disappointed really...

in 4 years they must have made many things for this game, prologue is an extended demo, like ffXIII will be, and to release a demo like prologue they tested and programmed much, but they already do a base to begin the definitive game... people think that they are focused in prologue, are only excuse words, they are focused in gt5 from years not in prologue...and i really hope they will not keep this excuse to justify some omitted feature...

I would be pissed off big time, I bought the ps3 for gt5 mainly, and if it does not have damage I would have to sell my ps3 and get an xbox 360 just for forza 2. No damage takes a huge hit off of being realistic, and if forza can do it with how much cars they have, I don't see why GT5 couldnt. I dont see how true race fans wouldnt be completely upset if gt5 ended up having no damage, it would be taking a step back on gaming evolution.

Why do people keep on referring to manufacturers not allowing it, yet plenty of other racing games with those manufacturers have said damage? Are you blind or what?

A little bit off-topic, but sometimes it irks me that some people have this attitude that GT games are the best racing games in the world EVER, and the rest are rubbish. :grumpy: There are still many things other racing games do better than Gran Turismo, including damage.

Everyone has their own opinion,i personally think the GT series is the best,i have tried a couple pc games didn't enjoy them, tried forza 2 can't see what any one likes about it,the only reason it's almost better than prologue is because it has more cars.the only other racing game i have enjoyed was dirt and can't wait to see what dirt 2 is going to be like.

To answer the thread i definitely would buy it without damage.

I voted no, online play will be the only reason I would get GT5 and if the collision system stays as is then its not worth paying again for unacceptable online racing.

It would be great to have damage, but if it's not GTPerfect, I'd turn it off.
Because GT 5:P is so well balanced. Cars in full HD, almost perfect sound effects and engine noises, awesome backgrounds......and Forza-like damage would just spoil the pleasure.

It's not perfect...why do you play it then?

No matter what they do PD Can't win, will either be not good enough damage or too much damage.

Everyone here will buy it regardless

He did say "GTPerfect." And frankly, I see his point clearly. If you have a game which strives to have convincing physics, real world visuals, lifelike car and engine sounds, be millimeter perfect in the car and track models, and then have cartoon level damage, it would be a little odd. In fact, it would seem out of place in a game which strives for accuracy in everything else.

I see your point too, but it doesn't mean you're right, so don't have a bug-eyed astonished reaction or anything. ;)

Whoever said "NO" are retards! too bad... they are going to miss out big time by not buying it. that's pretty lame. Just get over it, and it will be all good so you can enjoy the game like all of us would.

I guess some members here can get their sim fix elsewhere, like NFS Shift, but I prefer the goooodd stuff. p.s. I almost forgot to put the "f" in shift:sly:

'accidentaly forgot' ? :P

In all fairness though, i'm going to give SHiFT a try, its going to be arcadey, but with that DEV team it should be atleast fun to play which can only add to GT's lifespan

Well we now know that GT5 will most likely have damage, (see the latest news story on the homepage if you haven't already...) so we can all rest easy knowing that we will soon be able to stuff our least favorite cars in the world into the armco at 180 mph

It doesn't seem like you were refering to damage when you said:

It's too bad you're out there buying a label, while I'm buying games based on their merits...

I went out and bought the original GT before anyone even knew what Poliphony did, or who Yamauchi was, not because of a label, but because they had a great game in GT. If I'm gonna buy GT5, it's gonna be because it's an innovative game on it's own like the original was, not because it's GT.

Now SuperB, there's no need to get so arrogant.

Just what label do you accuse us of buying? If nothing about Prologue impressed you, I think you're being stubbornly spiteful. I know we've discussed various games before, and I know you have your faves. But I don't remember what they are and frankly it doesn't matter to me.

Many of us prefer Gran Turismo games to others, for various reasons. I usually get tired of my sims, my G25 having arrived, and I end up spending the rest of my racing time on Prologue. It involves me in a race more than any other game I've ever played, and it's just a "demo." And it's every aspect of the experience. Each area shows attention to detail and polish, including physics.

Ferrari Challenge grouched me out. I got to where I was beginning to hate it because it was making racing an unnecessary ordeal, and certain fans were pressing on me that I was wrong and it was close to seeing God. But I still recommend it to people, even though for me it's as much fun as a headache sometimes. And you know what it is? A label racer, The Real Ferrari Racer. Just like every PC sim says "I'm The Real Simulation." And yet every game gets something wrong. Of course it doesn't keep certain fans from looking down their nose at others over it.

I'm just sayin'. ;)

if PD isn't planing on adding damage then its DUMB of them not to tell us already. i mean every topic you see about gt5 involves someone asking about damage, if they wait this long (e309) to tell us NO DAMAGE it will make it hurt even more than telling us no damage a year ago.

Now SuperB, there's no need to get so arrogant.

Not arrogant at all. I could've said something much more insulting, like, oh, I don't know...

Whoever said "NO" are retards!

alex thinks everyone should "get over it" and buy GT5 even if it ends up being an upgraded GT5P. Just because it's GT. That's what buying a label means.

Now, I don't think GT5 will be bad (apparently damage is confirmed), but in the chance that it were not compelling enough to buy, I won't "enjoy the game like the rest"...

It doesn't seem like you were refering to damage when you said
Oh sorry, I misunderstood you there.
There's no perfect game, but for me, GT is closest to that.
I love cars since I could walk, and with GT I can try out cars that I probably won't even see in my whole life.

I have a hard time believing that even GT fans could recommend Ferrari Challenge, that is the most on rails driving game I have played in a LONG time.

i've bought it two days ago cuz people recommend here..
i've already ended play it... really dislike it..

We're not buying a label. We have Prologue. If not having damage makes GT5 a bad game, I just don't know what to say.

It means that SUPER NUMBBER does not care about the game itself. Only damage.

SUPER NUMBBER: We won't buy the game because it is GT. We will buy it (not counting myself, I doubt I will be able to afford it) because we know it is going to be a great game, and seriously, if you think damage is the only reason to buy a game... Then I guess you will be sorry when you find that, unless you are a very, very bad driver, you won't see it until someone crashes you.

I tried ferrari challenge I found it really redundant to race 2 times the same track. The environnements feel dead and when you're on the cockpit you can't see the turns coming

Final word: GT5P owns and GT5 will be an awesome game:sly:

sorry for my english:)

Sorry if I came off as saying that no damage = bad game (I was half asleep when I posted).

The omission of one feature doesn't make it bad automatically, but it does make the game more outdated, especially since so many other games have done it since so long. It's kinda like if GT was a 2D racer (extreme example); being in 2D doesn't mean it's rubbish, but at this age you expect all racers to use 3D graphics.

SUPER NUMBBER: We won't buy the game because it is GT. We will buy it [...] because we know it is going to be a great game

Did you see your own contradiction? You say you don't buy labels, yet you "know it is going to be a great game"....and it hasn't even been released.

SUPER NUMBBER: We won't buy the game because it is GT.
Now that I have a few minutes, I think I'll say something on this.

I am going to buy GT5 because it is Gran Turismo.
  • I am buying a game which is the pinnacle of one of the biggest selling franchises in history, and is the biggest for a number of very solid reasons.
  • I am buying the legacy of a legendary game designer, Kazunori Yamauchi.
  • I am buying something which has the potential to be the first serious example of his dream racing game.
  • I am buying a game which will probably set new standards for car collecting and modification.
  • I am buying a game which may well offer more internal content on the disc at release than any racing game in history.
  • I am buying a game which has proven itself on hardware which is incredibly inferior in the past, and still exceeded my expectations like no other game in comparison.
  • I have GT5 Prologue, a mere trimmed down preliminary example, and it still delivers a better racing experience than any game I've ever tried.
I know people have mocked Gran Turismo and derided its shortcomings, and to be sure it has some, just as their favorite games have them. But when I want what the latest Gran Turismo game delivers, or even previous games, I only find it in Gran Turismo.

Kazunori-dono and his team are doing something very, very right and very, very unique for this to be true for more than a decade. Am I a fanboy?

You bet, and proud of it. :D
