They are the same basicly. The badge, the style and the price are the only thing that changes. (The A8 has a V8, I think, but the displacement is the same).

So the VW because it's cheaper

Phaetons are getting really hard to find in the USA, my Dad once got the opportunity to buy one (probably the only one in my state) but the condition didn't match the price so he didn't buy it.

Yes they are rare because:

a) nobody knew about them
b) nobody really bought them
c) even though they use bits from Audi's and Bentley's, they were VW badged so they were underrated, even worse the depriciate a lot. Nowadays their value is slowingly increasing because of rarity.

Volkswagen Phaeton W12 vs. Audi A8L 6.0 quattro - Phaeton, it's rarer, cheaper, and nicer.

Mercury Marauder vs. Chevrolet Impala SS - Marauder. That car is simply badass. 👍

The Marauder never had a 5.4L, or are you saying you'd drop a 5.4 in? (seems unlikely)

I'd have the Marauder because RWD and is actually special.
It has a 4.6L DOHC already. Throw a 5.4L crank/rods in it and go. Not seen often but yes kinda.

Volkswagen Phaeton vs Audi A8: Well the Audi isn't a Volkswagen, so I'll take the Audi.

Toyota FT86 vs Nissan IDx: I'll take the Toyota, it's like an FRS with a more powerful engine which is pretty cool. Plus looks better.

Mercury Marauder vs Chevy Impala SS: Marauder, mostly based off of looks.

I thought more people would like the idx
I guess im the only one feeling the whole datsun 510/skyline 2000gt vibe

Both were. Well, the Mercury was in the Crown Vic format. I've seen the Impala's used though.

Yes but they were never "official" police packages of them.

The Crown Vic used the SOHC 4.6

The Caprice pretty close to the Impala but had a few differences.

I wasn't aware it needed to have a factory prep package in order to be used. Any car can be a cop car.
