WRC 8: General Discussion (Release: september 2019)

Basic testrun in Finland with the 037, yes I am driving like miss Daisy and if you guys wonder why I don't use the handbrake, it is because it has a great turnin and the handbrake is very sensitive on this car. Not at all used to the car yet and surely a handful coming from WRC2

and a few extra impressions from a base PS4

They also nailed how the sun is blinding, and then you're just looking for stuff that looks like track and matches the pacenotes

I can relate to that, I'm currently playing a Sardenga stage in the evening, the sun is hazy/blinding in some directions then almost gone and dusk in other parts. Lights on or off, I'm not sure  The weather in this game is seriously impressive, I stopped the car and just soaked in the atmosphere in a dark windy afternoon raining stage in Corsica, it almost felt like I was there.

Switching your headlights on in fog does exactly what it should as well, blinds you totally with the reflected light.

Looks like a patch has dropped for the PS4 and XBox - V 1.03

Should solve the issues people have had with the TM Handbrake, amongst other things.

WRC 8 update 1.03 patch notes
Career Mode
  • Solving an issue where the “Rain lover” skill in the Career mode wasn’t working properly.
Bug fixes
  • Solving a compatibility issue with the Handbrake TSS from Thrustmaster on the T300 & T-GT steering wheels.
  • Solving an issue where the Lancia Fulvia HF had too much grip on the road.
  • Solving an issue for the Toyota Yaris where the wheel was still visible even with the visibility setting off.
  • The Ghost can now be activated/deactivated through the menus.
WRC 8 update 1.03 for PS4 and Xbox One is now available fo download.

This is my rally game - I'm loving every moment I play this. It just feels right.

That said there are one or two downers:

1. No real photo mode - it's 2019 for gods sake, and any racing game needs a proper photo mode, or at least a free camera so we can take screen shots.

2. Those inflatable Red Bull arches remind me of a certain John Martyn song. Seriously, are they made out of pure impenetrable neutronium? This also goes for some of the flora around as well, where I've experienced a sudden and technically infinite deceleration by what I can only describe as a dead rose bush.

These are really my only complaints, and if I was any good at driving I wouldn't have noticed point 2 anyway.

I've tried this evening to unlock the trophy on authentic difficulty and I wonder if it is even possible

The times are so sharp that the closest I am able to get is around 40 seconds of the fastest AI. I think I can park that trophy in the freezer.:scared: Tried it with a WRC machine btw. Lucerna at Monaco if I am correct. Bloody hell I have difficulty with keeping up at that speed. Seems my mind is processing 10 seconds late

Love the career mode, though I’m getting ready to be given the door by my team very soon after three poor event results. I went with ‘Authentic’ difficulty which may be a bit extreme for me. Hoping gaining some experience and leveling up my team, car, etc will help get me better results.

One thing about the handling I notice that’s much improved over WRC 7 is at low speeds. The cars finally turn without the wheel turning into a limp noodle. You can actually turn through corners without needing to drift through.

The JWRC car is pretty good handling wise, but the 4WD I tried is really nice. 👍

Just stop it you two. You're making me feel bad. I'm having enough problems with medium difficulty. :)

It was just a try-out from my side in quick mode. For the career I run easy and I am about to go to medium next Season. I am no alien but not that slow either. Authentic, I wanted to see how fast is fast  btw 0 % unlocked the "stage win on authentic" trophy. Nuff said :D:cool::dunce:

You can change difficulty between seasons in career mode?

I started junior at medium, got 2nd at despitet end 4th, 1st, 1st, 5th, 2nd. Maybe finale WRC Will be top much for my skills.

I think a super short stage like the ones available in Germany or Finland are the best option. Super short, you can totally memorize them and retry tons of time. Wrc2 privateer.

You can always change difficulty (between évents and just before a stage starts) but career is independent from season and quick race which have both their own setting as well.

Short stage would be an option indeed. I still think I don't have the skills though :odd:

Sorry bothering you but where you can change it? I Didn't find where the "button" Is. Thx

You'll need to go in the options and then game settings. It is at the same place where you set your driving aids. You can access it by clicking the small tool icon on your left

@Scaff I did see you had a go in Turkey during the career . I wonder how you got there since Turkey is never shown during my WRC2 career.

Can the sélection of rallies dépend on for which team you sign or the difficulty one sets?

Ran both seasons for WRT Citroën, calendar stays thé same but stages and weather vary. No new countries though!

Interesting .....

Turkey is like the bastard child of Argentina and Greece, with a very bad attitude. With damage set to real simply driving the stages will inflict noticeable damage on the steering and suspension.

It also threw me a combination of two night stages on the last day, both with rain halfway in, and with the final one being the Epic Stage. It broke me and the car, it was brilliant.

I'm currently driving for Ford, so it may be linked to manufacturer, will see who I get an offer from next season.

Looking forward to it then :irked::lol:

Did you got Chili in your calendar as well?

With Citroën WRT I got:
- Monaco
- Corsica
- Chile
- Portugal
- Wales
- Spain

I went with the Hyundai in WRC2 and got:

Mexico
Corsica
Argentina
Chili

And I can't remember the rest :dopey:

In JWRC it was:
Corsica
Argentina
Portugal
Finland
Germany
Wales

Turkeys description "bastard child of Argentina and Greece" had me in fits of laughter but oh so true as i took to the epic stage using the A110 and my goodness what a behemoth of a stage and i am definitely of the opinion now that WRC8 is my go to Rally game, I ploughed a lot of time into DR 2.0 and had a lot of fun with it and i will confess that i was very critical of WRC8 and totally dismissed it when i saw the VVV videos prior to launch.

I think the thing that convinced me to buy it was after reading more about the career mode and the amount of effort that has been put into the physics and the tyre model which is excellent and really makes for the most intense drive, i wasnt blown away initially if im honest but as i am playing it more and acclimatising to it, i am loving the steep learning curve and that is the beauty of it.

I was smart and made sure I started downloading my copy before I left for work. It should be done by the time I get home for lunch so I can have a quick go around the test area for a few minutes....but tonight...

Sorry sorry! It is not possible to change difficulty in the career itself! Impossible to do and greyed out. I am stuck with easy atm :indiff:

Btw 50 seems levelcap and can't explore the tree anymore :guilty:

I'm the same, can't change difficulty in career once started.

How long did it take you to get there?

And, I remember KT saying that when you switch teams there is a partial skill tree reset. As if you inherit the new team's tree. Is that true?

It went quick with easy AI. 1 JWRC and 2 WRC2 Pro seasons.

Funny thing is that it never proposes a career above WRC2. Skilltree reset, haven't seen it :ill:

Asked on Twitter about levelcap, contracts and difficulty.

Keep getting mails that Hyundai wants to offer me a contract. End of season it is nowhere to be found. Career with the Polo isn't a succès, the handling is weird after the Citroën. Went back with them to see if it changes anything for the rallies and it didn't. Think I'll run the in between events only and abandon every rally to see what it comes up with.
