WRC Modern Classics Season 2001. Finale!

Think this one is going to be another rough and bumpy ride.

Had a pretty appalling start to NZ with a puncture in SS1 and then flying off a cliff in SS2. Think my rally is basically over, but I'll try and get to the end just incase I can scoop up any points 😂

I'm very happy with 3rd in Finland! Looking forward to New Zealand, lovely stages.

What happens with people competing in cars that aren't a part of this championship? Assume they just get removed when the results are posted here? Just noticed the current fastest times for NZ have been set in the 2008 Focus.

Yeah they get removed from results and kicked from the club. There's nothing thay can be done other than that, can't limit cars or anything which is frustrating.

Repeat offenders get banned.

Kenya was a brutal test for the drivers, in stages, and in length. In the end it was @Spinerkopin who took yet another victory, finishing just 9 seconds ahead of fellow Subaru driver @Belgianwaffle . @PickyReptail8 picks up a solid 3rd place in the Focus.

In Finland, the tides turned, @Belgianwaffle capitalising on a rare set of issues for @Spinerkopin , who suffered a double puncture on the first stage, to take victory and close the gap in the championship considerably. @PickyReptail8 took another very solid podium in the Focus with @SharkyOB 3rd for the blue oval.

In the constructors, Subaru edge further towards the WCC, over 130 points clear of Ford. SEAT have passed Mitsubishi for P3, just 2 points ahead, as Peugeot start to become detached.

I'm back, like I've promised :D and I fell victim to the high track degradation in the 1st stage already (picture included) :dunce:

Fortunately the yellow spanish train kept on rollin' and the rest went without hitches

Well I just finished New Zealand and so far I'm 2nd, behind Cabelmania ( naturally lol ), though for anyone else there's a section on Orewa ( stage 3 ) that needs a bug fix. Approx 3/4 of the way through sector 3 I encountered an invisible object on the right side of the road which pulled the car into the bushes. The graphics show some leaves being thrown up but there's nothing there. I did only lose 7 seconds with a reset to track which doesn't affect any results but it's a bug that shouldn't be there.
It won't let me post the clip

Is that right before the arch of the last kilometer? I think I had that too in another club 🙄

Finished NZ last night, in 4th behind the aliens :)

Very happy with my run; had a single off track excursion but it only cost me a couple of seconds and I didn't hit anything. Just need to work on my outright pace if I want to challenge the three who are up front. Also, managed to mess up the shakedown so I only had two sets of tyres for the event. Defo still learning!

My run in NZ continued to be awful. Made it to the end (if you can say that after being 46 minutes down on everyone else). Ended up doing one push on the final stage to gather up some level of self confidence

NZ done, overall quite a safe run, except a little barrel roll and a nearly destroyed engine by blasting into one of the "finish gates" at the end of stage 4. Good thing it was just before the long service

Here's some pictures, also adding Kenya and Finland

Well, New Zealand was going well then the game crashed half way through stage 7. Second time WRC has done that since the new season pass thing. I'll leave the championship there.

Reinstalled the game so I should be good from now on but I completely lost my stage 7 run so I'm way down on where I'd have finished otherwise

A bit last minute, and certainly not the ideal start in that a moderately gentle bounce off a raised kerb gave me a puncture 90 seconds in... that said, it was encouraging to see that I had the pace to challenge if I didn't slide off the road at any point (I did not, in fact, keep it on the straight and narrow).

As I found out in Kenya (and @PickyReptail8 in Finland) damaged exhausts really aren't a "minor" problem in terms of outright pace, I was making sure it was repaired at every opportunity this time around. 😅

Nice BeastMode after puncture 👏🏻💪🏻 daam for the puncture 😵‍💫
Orange Break and Exahaust always change 😂

The challenging high speed roads of New Zealand really separates those who are confident with their cars from those who aren't. @Spinerkopin proving once again that they are at one with the Subaru Impreza, with another solid victory, 44 seconds clear of @Belgianwaffle . @PickyReptail8 came home P3 in the Focus.

The tarmac of San Remo is up next, steep drops and switch back mountain roads providing a complete opposite test to New Zealand.

We head into the twilight of this 2001 World Rally Championship with the first of 2 back to back tarmac events. Welcome to the 43rd Rallye Sanremo - Rallye d'Italia.
Brutal switchback mountain roads, sheer drops and frequent flat out sections, require precision and confidence. Tyre conservation is also critical with the abrasive roads freely destroying the rubber.

This is will be probably* my last rally of my part time schedule :) It's my "home" rally, it's mandatory :P (even if I don't really like Croatia )

* my partecipation in Australia/Indonesia is unlikely to happen, but never say never :sly:

In the continued, seeming 'tale of woe' from my 2001 season, I had terminal damage on SS1 :banghead: Not quite sure what it is, but I'm not clicking with this era of car as much as I thought I might.

May experiment with the other cars in the final few rounds...just in attempt to redeem myself!

Had an awful rally. Is the tarmac more slippy than Iberia and Monte or is it just me?
Not just you, I've found it the most difficult of the tarmac stages in terms of slowing down without locking up + maintaining the grip on the switchbacks, and not just in these cars either (one of the early daily stages in the GTPlanet club featured H2 RWD at Croatia in the wet and I must've spun out half a dozen times at least!).

-----------------

This was actually one of the test rallies I was using to determine what car I'd pick, did one dummy run in the Impreza on the bottom-to-top switchback stage and got a 6:00'ish. After that I struggled massively to match it with the Evo before throwing in the towel so I'm not too optimistic about this one...

Finally had a relatively clean run in one of these after many rallies with many crashes, though I did frustratingly lose a load of time on stage 9 I think it was after clipping the inside and then going into a tree on the outside

What a Rally!!!!
First four stage was a disaster!!! Spins, trees and everything else 😰 i was 36sec behind 2nd place… Needed a break😰 after that someting clicked in and the Focus was flying!!! Last stage i was pushing so hard and a bush draged me off the track no penalty but time was lost. I was like okey the comback is over 😥 And in the finish i was suprised that made to the 2nd place by 0,7 ahead of @Dreadmed 😳😳😳 What a rally!!!!

Great recovery!

I had the opposite experience, a twitchy but ultimately incident-free first 4 stages only to put it down for the night. Coming back to a car with worn softs was not a great idea, I ditched it twice on S5 and then what ultimately cost me was S8; understeered clean off the road, lost time trying to get back up the verge and then got a 5s corner cut penalty for good measure:

Croatia understeer moment.png

So pretty much like Spain, the Evo had pace in it but I didn't have the confidence to fully attack on fresh rubber and then it became borderline undriveable on worn tyres... now the Gorge of Certain Doom™ awaits.
