Toyota Considering World Rally Championship Return

I don't know why Toyota are thinking of going back into Rally and are commiting back to Le Mans when they had a decent team in F1 which they pulled out of a few years ago. I understand Toyota's Motorsport success may not lie in F1 but F1 is booming in popularity, TV ratings and global interest.

Latvala's replacement has been confirmed as Dani Sordo, I would've thought Meeke, Ostberg or even Novikov would be a better choice for a tough gravel rally.

F1 costs the most and Toyota was hit hardest of anyone in the recession. Its far, far cheaper to compete as a front-runner in LMP or in Rallycars..but budgets are almost comparable to a backmarker in F1!!
Sure the publicity can't be beat in F1 but winning the Le Mans 24 or WRC can still garner headlines if not quite the same as simply being on the podium in F1.

Good news indeed, however, Sunday nights at 11 PM and Monday mornings at 7 AM aren't what you'd call convenient. Nonetheless, it's great to see live replays from the same day as it happened broadcasted here in the US on Speed Channel.

Hirvonen has closed up, the gap's only at 0.2 seconds. Obviously he's been instructed to not challenge for victory but It'd be nice to see what he could do in that car.

For the first time this season we're getting a good battle between Loeb and Hirvonen and Citroen decide to fix the position. "It only logical decision".

There's seriously not much reason to watch WRC right now. I believe Hirvonen is the only one to properly challenge Loeb and them being in the same team is just killing the thrill.

Let's hope Ford can put it together in the next round.

So far this is shaping up to be the crappiest wrc season I remember.

I noticed tonight marked the return for WRC on Speed in the US. They had a 1-hr highlight show on at 11pm Eastern. I think they plan to play the weekend highlight show each Sunday night of the event. I guess it's better than nothing.

Imagine you are Citroen boss and you have the chance to make a easy one two in the rally if you tell the drivers to let it sit as it is and take it easy or you have the chance to let them both fight hard and risk loosing one or the two cars... what would you do?

On the other hand this F1 season is shaping up the be the best Ive seen in over 10 years or maybe more...

Yeah. I wish we got more than highlights...but we're just lucky to get that I guess....:guilty:

Everybody knows that Loeb is #1 at Citroen and they're backing him for the driver's championship. Hirvonen won't get a sniff unless the Fords are close to them. If Ford keep floundering then the championship will become a non-event. My prediction: Loeb and Citroen will win the titles.

I'm glad Ogier left Citroen. Hopefully he comes back with a good challenge. It's a shame Hirvonen had to end up as Citroen's 2nd.

Its really bad for Ogier because his career got screwed up when he got fired from Citroen. He was winning a d being consistent, but then got demoted to S2000. Hopefully he will make a return. Is 28 years old a bit too late to start in WRC?

I thought he left on his own. Either way he wouldn't have been happy there. As for being 28, he gave Loeb a run for his...championship and Loeb at 38 is still doing pretty well.

Loeb didnt start winning championships until he was 30 so...

He left citroen to be part of the wolksvagem WRC project and he is only doing the S2000 so that we will still practice because the Polo WRC is only entering next year.

Sorry, I was too young to watch then. :P

But didn't Citroen fire him and then he got taken aboard the Volkswagen WRC project. From my point of view I thought he wanted to stay with Citroen but they fired him because he was to much of a threat to Loeb. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think he was fired. By the end of the year, both Ogier and Citroen were unhappy with one another. Citroen was unhappy that Ogier was not willing to follow team orders. Ogier was unhappy that he was expected to follow orders, even when he was on form and Loeb was in a slump. So in the end, they agreed to part ways.

That's good news. ^^^ I wish that there could be an American round, but I don't know of a good place to hold a rally.

I'd say Denver or Los Angeles. There's a lot of mountains nearby, so it would make for some good roads. This is what you might find in Denver, while this is the kind of road you could find outside LA. There's also some good stuff in Wyoming and South Dakota, but they're far too isolated.

Denver would be my choice. It could be a mixed surface - tarmac and gravel - rally, held late in autumn or early in spring so that there would be a good chance of snow at higher altitudes.
