oh yeah, i can think of anything better than racing against the amazing AI in GT4, heck id play the whole game again just to race against that AI :sly:

lol, NOT!

Nice to see you back big james.

Dont be too fast.

My tip is:

Race the qualifier first..........

I found the "what view do you use" poll. With 156 votes from the general GTP population:

chase cam = 13%

roof cam = 27%

bumper cam = 60%

I use the roof cam myself. I feel that I get a better view of the track, apexes, etc. while still being "connected" to the car. Roof cam also helps to see over your ghost if you're directly behind it.

Ok CFM, as i´ve said, here´s the .max file of my lap at Nurburgring Nordschleife in 4'44.650 in arcade mode.

Hope you like it. :)

Also for who´s interested, just download and check it out. 👍

I haven't watched it but that is one fast lap veilsidebr. 👍

Must make PD cry to see their "driving simulator" put down a lap like that at the ring.

In any case, I'm going to download that lap and check it out.
Maybe I will learn something from it rather than just stare in awe. :sly:

I als us roof cam for your exact reasons. Im a bumper cam view in gt3 and other racing games.

Yeah - I kind of figured I'd best do the qualifier first !

Thanks for the welcome back !!

I've started off with the licence test last night, done the first 4 and I've just got about the last 5 or 6 to do on the special one. I'm going to be brutally honest and say that, so far, I dont like GT4, the cars seem to be too erratic. It could well be that the handling on GT3 wasn't as life-like as GT4 but Im not enjoying it at all at the moment.

It could also be that I spent the last couple of months playing with the Poly 001 cars on GT3 then I haven't played on GT until last night on GT4.

What I'm keen to know is, does it get better ? Is the handling part of the game something you get used to ?

Im hopefully running the qualifier tonight

It does get better. I couldn't stand the new physics when I started but as I drove more and more I started to adjust and now I don't even think about it. It is different but you will get used to it. In fact I recently played GT3 and found the handling in that annoying - it felt too much like an arcade racer.

Yep welcome back James, i remeber we used to battle it out for Div2 top honours 👍

But yes, you get used to it the more you play. Give it time and you will be fine 👍

just watched that... wow, one hell of a drive. 👍
hats off mate, i have yet to drive anything that fast on the ring, but no way could I immagine eating corners as quickly and fearlessly as that.

hehe, but that car on r5's... makes gt's rendering engine look like old film that was sped up. (if you watch it in bumper cam, you'll know what i mean ;) )

thx. 👍

hehe the bumper cam is the right way to watch it, otherwise it won´t look too fast.

Watching in the camera under the car is not good at all, there´s no sensation of speed even at 1000 km/h.

Depends on what firewall they use ... won't work with our setup here ... I block all the proxy emulators ... but it's worth a try like you say

Well proxify.com worked but the admin is onto it and looking at blocking it and doing searches on common proxy beating executables. It's all good, means I'll do more work :)

good to see some familiar names still here !!

Im glad it gets better, I raced a couple of laps with the M3 in the qualifier and it did feel a bit better than at first so its going the right way !!

I hopefully will get the qualifier done in time for next weeks race, or even this weeks ?

Time to change that sig though james?

Been repeatedly reading yak testicles and moose anus for nearly a year now....

Good luck, and give the handling a chance, you'll soon realise that everything understeers, and thats cos you're going too fast.

👍

Agreed that I do need to change it but it still brings a smile to my face when I read it now !!!

I'm trying to get a session in tonight where I should get a good go at the qualifier - Im worrying that I wont get into div 2 !!! Still moving up to div 2 from div 3 will be the challenge if it is div 3 I get into !

yeah, i would say Division 3 is probably the hardest division.

Almost time for the next race CFM, and pity Kents not here, i think he said results wont be until late afternoon.

Probably depends on what division you're in I'd say ... for me Div.2 is the hardest haha ... looks like CFM will be moving people up more now ... see his post in Week 18 thread ...

GT_Fan2005
yeah i noticed that. Hopefully il be one!! lol, fat chance but there you go :D

lol, but don't be too sure about not moving up ... CFM moved me up after I came top 5 3 times or so in Div. 3 ... but good luck to you ! I think because Div. 3 has so many people it will happen sooner rather than later.

well, while a get some bumpy runs in opera paris... where´s kent btw?

is it "late afternoon" already in louisiana?

just kidding, i know results would be late, but just too much waiting... :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

I got in my car the other day right after a long GT4 session and it seemed like my steering wheel was ENORMOUS. It's not but compared to my itty bitty DFP it is. It seemed like I was driving a bus with a hoola hoop.

While browsing old threads at GTP i came across this one, one that dates back to before i was even a member... i have good reason to belive this thread was responsible for the birth of WRS.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18054

Some good quotes from that thread

Red Eye Racer
Well,.... establishing a 'community' is main priority We do share settings and info relating, we try to avoid making it a competition and more like a gathering.

Helping eachother and showing compassion is the main reason we've stuck together. When a new guy comes along, we all welcome him/her and imediately offer assistance if nessecary. Basically,.. we've lasted this long because we're nice guys

I'd almost try to descriminate the series from the rest of the OLR activities. Making specific rules that must be followed, #1 being proper edicate. This way, the slower drivers dont feal overwelmed by the ego's of the faster drivers JMO

Red eye is talking about his own weekly race here.... GT3 WRS was also heavily based on this
Red Eye Racer
Yeah,.. I really hope you can get somthing off the ground.

What I really enjoy about the system is that it's geared towards FUN I play this game for two reasons: #1 is the competition that OLR offers. #2 is to have fun. #3 is a bonus, which I never new about until I got on the net, and that is making freinds. Right Mr P. 8)

What I've presented is geared towards having FUN and learning If you want the fury and intensity of competition... it probably not the right system

One last quote, from Boombexus himself the founder of WRS
Boombexus
Learning and having fun will be the main focus.

I feel that alot of potential racers here might feel a bit intimidated by the OLR. Wether it be just a lack of knowledge regarding it, or feeling intimidated by a feeling that they wont be competitive. Am I wrong here?

But becoming competitive is also a great way to learn as well. Getting to know some of the better racers and being able to tap them as a valuable source of information should be the key.
Some of the ideas that a few of us here have been tossing around would address these issues and provide and experience that would welcome newer racers and get them involved, and involvement is what we are looking for, not necessarily looking for the fastest driver, but creating a fast driver and improving there skills.
I know for me at least, I was starting to lose interest in GT3 as I had conqured the game, but the OLR racing experience has truly renewed my fascination with the game, and like Red Eye Racer stated earlier, I have meet a lot of folks on this board and various other boards and have formed great relations with them. It's been overall, a great experience.

Why am i posting this? well this is what WRS was first based on, fun and learning, making friends and respecting everyone, competition was also there but it was more like race on the track and after have a chat and a feed, and if anybody was having trouble we'd all be there to offer settings and tips and all be mates, think of it as a soccer/football game amongst mates. It was not race at the track and only be there to win, not share your best settings because your set on winning, not helping anyone because you dont want to give away your advantage (like Formula 1). WRS in GT3 trained 'Kent' and I and a few others up to be fast Div1 drivers, we learnt from drivers like Oliver De Place, Mr P, Max E and towards the end Hugo and Tannis. These guys always helped out and gave tips when asked. Winning was a bonus not a neccesity. Having fun and racing amongst mates was top priority.

Now for some reason GT4 has lost one or a few of the main points that WRS was based on, i think its too competitive and people take it too seriously. Anyway im not pointing the finger at anyone, i just thought the current crop of WRS drivers would like to know a little history on WRS and what it was based on all those years ago as well as a taste of the atmosphere it had. GT4 WRS is definetly getting better though 👍. Though if everbody had a nice read of that thread and my post and had a thought about how they can make GT4 WRS a friendlier and funner environment, WRS will only get better and last longer.

👍

Nice post Fryz.👍 I know a lot of the old vets from the GT3 days have moved on from WRS after the big rush of people that came after GT4 was released, which sucks. I was just thinking the other day that a lot of the hype had settled down and we're starting to get a nice balanced field of drivers in all divisions, and a lot of dedicated regulars who have fun each week like the old days. Nothing wrong with new drivers mind you, but when GT4 first came out and a lot of new people came along all at once who didn't really know about the OLR 'etiquette' around here, some people got offended. Hopefully some of you guys and gals will stop by again after BC5 is over. (You know who you are) ;)

Anyway, I appreciate all the newer drivers also who show up week in and week out and have some good rivalries going in all divisions. It makes the work on this end worthwhile.:)

Yes I agree those were good times 👍

Good luck to WRS to keep on going for years to come 👍

Ive managed to get a time for the qualifier, so I'll be back racing next week hopefully. I just discovered B sepec mode today so thats just about ruined the whole game for me, all I'll do now is the obvious !!

At least I dont have to worry about getting the prize cars for the WRS each week now.

Oh yeah I nearly forgot, I posted a while ago in here about not being able to find the "save best lap replay" after running a quick lap in the M3, so as you can guess I've got a quick lap but didnt save it DOH !!! Nevermind, I'll have to wait and see where my qual time gets me, until next week then,
BigJ.

Just something special i´ve found, check it out right bellow:  👍

Stefan Bellof and Ayrton Senna - Special moment, taken in Silverstone, july of 1983. This venue was a Maclaren test session, in wich Senna had his second drive in a F1 car, while Bellof had his very first try. Senna clocked on his best lap, a 1'14.3, while Bellof had a 1'14.6.

Maybe one of the most rare pictures in the world, since i just found it now.

Speechless to describe these two masters of motorsport.

Sounds like it was good times back then! 👍
WRS is a great! I love it, although it does take a fair amount of my time each week. I find it very competitive, which only drives me to become better

Since I've joined last week, I havent raced anything else besides the WRS races set out by CFM!! This has left me with a half finished game on GT4, and I don't mind that at all, I've always wanted to find some sort of competition online where I can compete with the best, and learn from the best, and is fairly well organised, well done to CFM on that, congrats on doing a good job!
WRS, it's been fun, excellent, and frustrating all at the same time ;)
