You know, I think this car is not entirely a Newey design. I think PD already had a base design before approaching Newey, and he just had input in maybe refining the design and suggesting making it a fan car. If you look at the video around 0:33, you see kaz talking to newey with the tv showing a rotating model of the car, notice it doesn't have a fan yet. I think this was one of the first visits with newey. I feel that Newey didn't really have that much input in the actual designing of the car, as we are made to believe, which is a shame. Then again, I'm just speculating. I hope I am wrong

Well alot of people seem confused as to why the X1 prototype sounds like a F1 car, Well PD have changed the engine and transmission to something more realistic (just my opinion) " Powered by a 1500ps direct-injection V6 Twin Turbo,"

Heres a link to the story http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5330.html

wakenabeb If you read the article I posted I think you'll see you arent that far from the truth, it seems like newey simply brought up the chapperal fan concept, but maybe he did more?

The text does suggest it was something along those lines.
Initially the X1 prototype was a single seater, canopied prototype wing car with covered front wheels. The performance brought about by the 1500ps direct injection V6 Twin Turbo would have been spectacular as is, with a top speed of 400km/h and a maximum lateral acceleration of 6G. But this concept showed an even greater advancement through the help of Red Bull Racing, who became a partner in this project.

You could be right as I also got the impression it was more like a brainstorm session based on a PD proposal although that PD concept could've been in a very early stage ( seems logical ) and Kaz may have arrived at a similar conclusion regarding certain elements or even the basic shape to an extend.
I doubt Adrian Newey would have given his approval if he didn't have a huge or significant input or influence though, it's still his name being associated with this car.
Maybe his suggestions and some basic sketches were integrated and interpreted by PD and then send back to Newey for further mutual evaluation and suggestions made to improve the design.

Yeah I agree too. I'm sure Newey's also been very busy this year with his duties at RBR that he didn't have that much time to design an "ultimate racer" from scratch. It makes total sense that he was probably more of a consultant, with Polyphony doing the major designing. They go back and forth with Newey on improving the design until he got the ultimate "ok".

Well spotted! It seems the general shape and design of the car have carried over, but the back-end has been more-or-less revamped - not only the fan, but the diffuser and other under-body parts, the wells between the rear wheels, the rear wing design etc.

Also, has anybody seen the kick-ass wing-"mirrors" yet?

The X1 Prototype, the fastest car never made. Kidding of course, but 0 - 60 in 1.4 seconds? Oh man, daddy's found a new toy!

Yes that's what I meant, an expert consultant going back and forth until the end result is worthy of the Newey 'sign of approval' and PD can use the term 'designed by Newey' which it still probably is though to a large extend even though he might not have actually physically drawn it.
It's perhaps more the expertise and ideas suggested by him and going back and forth, etc.
Or like Kaz described it, like 2 Jazz-musicians playing together, someone has to start playing a note for the other to react to it I guess.

Images of the early X1 model in the high quality video.
I wonder if that will be in the game too. Maybe it's the version with the turbine engine and CVT transmission (although I'm starting to suspect that turbine engine part was a mistranslation, and that "gas" was actualy "gasoline"):

Ha, I'd been looking for where the cameras were hidden! Nice that they actually thought about that.

Well maybe, at first they send each other ideas and drawings.

Later, when Newey had more free time, He visited PD's studio and refined everything along with Kaz.

Modeling cars takes time and these days you can work with other people remotely.

The Turbine Superbike is the Tourist Trophy equivelent of the X1 Prototype :)

Fair enough. I should have probably been more specific, but based on what we know, the numbers the X1 produces will clearly be the class of GT5.

👍

Why does the engine sound like an f1 car? Isn't this a 3lt v6 twinturbo?
It's like it can rev up to 18000 rpm...

I'm definitely going to try that car, but i don't see myself racing with that so much. Don't think it would be fun at all at least in online games.

Sorry guys but am I one of the only ones that doesn't like this car? It is a shame PD took a lot of time to create this thing. They could have made it after they released the game and gave it to the community as a free download or something.

Listen to it when they are interviewing him and showing him driving it. Doesn't sound like an F1 car then...

I think it's more of a shame that the game is not out yet! Sorry to jump off topic but PD does this where they create fantasy vehicles as part of promotion and fun.

I'm glad something like this is created! Makes it a very interesting topic to discuss and obviously it worked :sly:

Placeholders? It sounds almost exactly like the Ferrari F2007...

Maybe it'll sound a bit like the old turbo F1s, well the V6 ones anyway; Honda's RA168E revved to around 14 thousand, so it's not a million miles off.

Here's a sample of said engine.
But, it's got an uneven firing order so it sounds a bit different to the Cosworth, for example, which is even-firing.

And, yes, that whiney sound when Vettel is driving does sound very odd :odd:

For the people that like this car it is great. I really don't like it and would prefer more premiums in its place.
