All of you not wishing for a hard drive must not forget that if you want to save any games, you will still need to chuck out 40 USD (or whatever your equivalent price is) for a memory card, which is nearly half the cost of the upgrade right there too.

I say honestly..the 399 is very worth it..

IF you plan on buying the things it comes with..
..
I mean 100 dollars for
a 100 dollar hard drive
a 40 dollar dvd remote
a 40 dollar controller
a 20 dollar headset
a 30 dollar AV chord

sounds like a HELL of a deal to me..

but I guess when people see...
100$ more..they think
"What a ripoff"

Yeah it's an excellent deal if you need all the stuff, but the thing is some people don't need the HD cords or can't play Live and don't need the headset, etc.

Silver is their "basic" if I'm not mistaken, while gold is the "premium" service.

The silver service is for games only, and I believe a few downloads for games.

While gold offers friends lists, games, music downloads IIRC, voice mail type functions, etc etc.

not really worth the purchase if you ask me, silver is fine.

From what I've heard is that you'll need gold to play games online. I hope thats wrong.

Giancarlo
That's not worth it for an Xbox graphics card and CPU upgrade.

Oh shut it GC. :P

Oh I know not everyone needs it..

but the point is...why are these people calling it a ripoff..

It does look like a deal when you over charge everything. Its not a deal if you dont need any of the items. Its a Scare tactiic to get people to buy the $400 version. The unsold $300 ones will be set away for Xmas when the cheap bastards are xmas shopping.

$100 for a 20gb HDD alone is a rip off unless its 20,000 rpms.. I dont recalling seeing anyone say $400 was a rip off. If anything its accessories. The system is a deal for $400.

They're calling it a "ripoff" because the system as they want it (i.e. hard drive, wireless controllers, all the things that MS said it would have) is a hundred dollars more expensive than they thought it would be.

I don´t think releasing two versions is a smart move, let´s see how that goes.

And I think that Silver only allows you to play online on the weekends, while Gold is free all the time.

From what I've heard, Silver allows you to do everything except play games. Buddy lists, live chat, whatever the hell people do on Live. The Gold membership is required to actually play the games. Which is another example of marketing... they're spewing out "free online" and hoping to suck people in before they read the fine print and find out you still have to pay to play.

It has nothing to do with everything you get for the $100 more, it has EVERYTHING to do with what you DON'T get for the $100 less.

You see, MS does this so people will ultimately buy the cheaper version, in which they will soon be forced to spend much MUCH more money. While it's a terrible thing to do, it's genius on Microsofts part as far as a marketing ploy. They'll make a killing if the $299 system does well.

Also, they market the $399 pack higher, and as soon as they release PS3, MS will drop the price of XB by $50 bucks.

ALSO.

You know, just as well as I do, that ALL OF THIER ACCESORIES are extremely overpriced, you've ignored that it seems, in light of your own arguement.

Well I don't think people will care..
They should be glad..

That's pretty much "free long distance" if they have the system...

It's a good marketing scheme..

I also heard the free weekends thing..

Which means all the kids will be out on the weekends..

ALLLL The kids..

but on the weeks you can expect the normal addolescent crowd...

I also heard the silver is only on weekends, which makes a good bit of sense. It's like a Live demo... you can play a little, see how fun it is, and then get lured to get Gold so you can play it all the time.

BTW I'm pissed because everywhere I went I was promised a wireless controller in interviews, articles, videos, etc, and now it's all of a sudden an extra feature. Real mature...

I'm SOO Glad Wireless isn't mandatory...

Thank the lord..
I feel your pain and all..

but I can't personally stand wireless controllers..

I've been playing games "tethered" for too many years to be FORCEd to switch

They are just as bad, if not worse, than sony.
Talk when sony actually has something to release and an online service that compares.
If you are so angry about the prices, just get the $400 package or nothing at all.

We can only talk about what we have to work with. Plus sony needs no such online service imo. PC gamers use xfire or gamespy or in game browsers to play online for free. Anything you say bad about PS2/3 online games can be applied to PC gaming. PC gaming online is no slouch. If XBL were free then it would be a problem for Sony.

What's wrong with wireless controllers? I'm looking forward to it, actually.. no more tripping over the cables, no more having to pull the system halfway across the living room just so the controller will reach to the couch.. Very handy, if you ask me.

Unless you're referring to the battery thing, in which case your hatred would only be for the 360 controllers. :)

No..
I'm just used to the balance of the tether..

whenever i hold a wireless controller it always faces at an angle instead of horizontally..

And it just gets uncomfrotable after a while...

but that's just me..

Well, just for ****s and giggles, let's compare to things current.

Wavebird - Wiresless controller...total price? $40 XB360? total setup cost of nearly $80.
HDD - PS2: $100 for 40GB XB360? $100 for 20GB
Standard Controller: PS2: 24.99 XB360? $40

Fact is, sony doesn't have to do anything more than sell cheaper accessories. The controllers are rediculously priced, MS won't let any third party companies make them, and they aren't too great to begin with.

As for the 400 dollar package, that's not my gripe, my gripe is that when I want more controllers I'll have to shell over major cash. I can get TWO PS2 controllers for that price.

Hell, I will bet you, right now, that PS3 controllers WIRELESS will be as cheap as the WIRED Xbox 360 controllers, just off of a "guess". I'll call it. It's all self contained. No packages. If not, It's for sure, 100% positive, going to be cheaper than the $80 MS charges.

I'd bet you're right. What do PS2 controllers cost? $25-30? I imagine PS3 controllers will be around $40.

Well then what you can do..is go out and buy a Multitap and 4 PS2 controllers instead..

You have fun playing Socom...
I'll be playing GR2, PGR2, and Halo 3

which is STILL cheaper than buying regular wired controllers for Xbox360.

PS2 Controller: 24.95
PS2 Multitap: 24.95

3 Controllers + 1 Multitap = ~$75

3 Xbox360 wired Controllers: $120

Maybe math isn't your strong point....

299 EUR is a fine price...

Oh and I'll be on the games convention in Leipzig next weekend, so I'll tell you my impressions afterwards.

Wow this guy is a genius..
.
He can't even see the point that i was talking about you whining about the controller price when you can get your PS2 controllers for X dollars, while i'll be playing on a Xbox 360..."I can get 4 PS2 controllers for that!!!"
Like I care..it's Ps2 controllers...
Go play Jakk II

But, if you read my post and thought I was talking about financial figures then it's obvious you're just trolling my posts for things to ***** about.

nice to know I have a fan! :sly:👍

Getting the top of the range Xbox 360 for Christmas glad it still works on Scart Socket, also if your from the UK. And you want to buy Xbox 360 titles cheap online go to Play.com it seems all the Xbox 360 titles on there are £39.99.

But if you buy a Xbox 360 title not online in the UK then you have to pay either: £44.99 or £49.99.

Its worth it if your a fan boy. But its not worth it has its basically making you buy the more expensive package or if you get the cheap one in the end your gonna have to buy half those accesorcies anyway.

Doesn't matter, they are still overpriced and you keep dodging that issue. In fact, you're dodging all the negative aspects of this announcement. I for one am upset, because I have a house full of gamers and I'm not paying that much for controllers.

I am willing to wager PS3 controllers won't be that much, and I also will be playing Xbox360, but it's nothing to brag about, and it surely doesn't mean I'm going to accept the fact that it's accessories are overpriced, as you are.

I be getting the wireless adapter then I can use my wireless router for the Xbox Live.

With the pricing announced I'm getting excited. Release must be near. I'm ready for next gen. Current gen consoles are starting to look and feel like NES games; it is time.
