Apparently, there is a racing variant of the Honda City Turbo II called the City Turbo II R.

From what it looks like, it appears to be used in a one-make series thing, like Volkswagen's Lupo Cup or the SCCA's Spec Racer Ford series, and I have to say, racing little Hondas like this sounds like a boatload of fun.

Any information about how extensive engine tuning was for these little beasts? Without kei-car limitations, the City could pack a mean punch... Regardless, they are wonderful things indeed, almost like shrunken Trans Am cars with that widebody kit.

The modifications made to the car, at least from a power staindpoint, include a larger exhaust, new fuel injectors, a 22psi turbocharger, a new intercooler, a modified camshaft and a Mugen Competition oil cooler kit. The engine puts out about 140HP @ 5500rpm and 22kg/m (14.7lb/ft) @ 3500rpm

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. 👍

So it's roughly 140 horsepower on a very light kei-car... Not quite the power figure I was expecting, but for the class that the City belongs to, that's still a very impressive figure nonetheless. A big ol'turbo, plus a special few Mugen parts, and presto voila! Instant box of fun.

JGTC used to actually be interesting. The first couple of years GT500 even had stuff like orphaned Porsche 962s and McLaren F1s floating around amongst the Toyota Supras and NSXs and the like.

There was also the Chevrolet Cavalier that raced in GT300.

037 only had one appearance, campaigned by Rosso Competition, and driven by the 1986 Rally Safari pilots - 1994 JAF Sprint but was slated to join in the Suzuka 1000 but the team never arrived at the circuit. It qualified 12th after a Nissan had problems, and finished ahead of four cars, seven laps behind the leader, ten seconds a lap slower. More information here.

As for weird JGTC cars, you had the AE86:

Camaro:

To name a few. Few more oddities here.

A Renault Sport Spider in JGTC? (blue with FIFO logos)
Yes, Sports Factory ran one at Fuji in 1997, and Ecurie SiFo had a go too at SUGO. The car pictured had a Group A Clio engine, and was converted from Spider Trophy spec to something more endurance-friendly solely in Japan. SiFo themselves were a Japanese Renault Sport distributor/specialist, if you flick through 90s catalogues you may find SiFo Clio parts listed.

Not the most successful of cars, but I've always had a soft spot for it. Bagged 32nd in the race, managed to finish.

The Copen Shooting Brake

Ok, for a split second I though that was fan-made, because I sure couldn't believe my own eyes... But it is official, it's just not a production model yet, merely a concept. Although I sure wouldn't mind see it go into production, it's like a shrunken Z3 Coupe with more edge and less hairdresser vibes...

And apparently, Daihatsu has also made a coupe concept, which gives plenty of Alfa Romeo 4C vibes, especially at the back;

And then something a bit wackier, the planned Copen Adventure, which is far more fantasy than the last two;

So it's a Mehari with the ground clearance of an actual SUV? Just stick to the Coupe and Shooting Brake concepts for now, Daihatsu, and make those production models...

That looks interesting but I hate the shape of the headlight covers. That spoils the look of the car.

Datsun 310, I'm watching "The Terminator" and I saw one of these things in the opening and had no idea what it was. So, I did what I usually do and check the "IMCDb" page.

It's possibly not all that surprising you didn't know those existed, as they were unveiled less than a week ago at the Tokyo Auto Salon. None of us knew they existed before last weekend...

They are very cool though. While the coupe concept is more attractive, I think I'd go for the shooting brake just for the extra tiny bit of utility.

The Honda S660 Neo concept also falls into the unveiled-last-week category, and it'd make me think even harder about the Copens...

Incidentally, Daihatsu did show a version of the old Copen as a shooting brake several years back:

And yes, I'd also have one of those.

Fair enough, you have a valid point, but they are unknown regardless, right? So hopefully I didn't break any rules by posting them...

Also, that S660 Neo; a retro-inspired concept car that doesn't look overly exaggerated and ugly? What is this black sorcery? That is even prettier than the Copen Coupe, and that's saying something. Not to mention that you can actually tell where it is retro inspired. Color me impressed Honda, good job.

And I wouldn't mind the old Copen in shooting brake form either, but for some reason I prefer the sharper design of the newer version. I don't know, it just feels more agressive and matches the concept better...
