John Wyer Automotive, who'd been running the GT40 programme, were bank-rolled by Gulf to produce a lighter, more aerodynamic version of the GT40 whilst Ford had dropped the 'original' GT40 in favour of the MkIV which looked totally different. They only ever made 3, 1 of which was destroyed in an accident and the other two were converted back to 'original' GT40's when the rules were changed for engine size and the governing body (ACO?) didn't recognise it as a Ford for the manufacturers championship title.

I found out about the Alfa Romeo 164 Procar some time ago. Powered by a V10 F1 engine. This thing is pure epicness...

I absolutely love the look of this car, both the smoothed front and new roof look fantastic! Have a feeling that once I have a bit of guarage space, I'd be very tempted to get a mk3 and do the conversion (front end & mechanicals at least...)

And something you really dont see often, a Bristol
Fighter

There is also the fighter T version (with a Turbocharged V10 and more power than a Veyron)

Theres also the Blenheim mk3, which is a bit less flashy.

Very understated cars typically, with bucket loads of class. Love the fact that the owner of the company apperently will only sell to you if he likes the look of you...

With the Bristols I really rather like the styling of the Fighter, where as I think I'd be in agreement that the Blenheim isnt exactly much to look at...

Though I think its the perfect car for when you retire, understated looks, still has a lot of power/speed, and a ton of luxury inside. Pretty much its what a Bentley used to be before they sold out to the Germans and started selling to footballers. (though I would say that Bentley did a slightly better job with the looks)

Saw this while browsing google. Never knew BMW built a Z3M Coupe factory racecar. Looks amazing. I wonder what racing series it was in.

I don't think it ever raced. I believe it was built to GT2/3 specifications - I have some info on it somewhere, but it would take me days to find it!

This thread needs more Saab.

Engine: Original Saab engine block and cylinder head. Engine tuned by Trollspeed of Trollhättan, Sweden. Longitudinally mounted, four-cylinder, 16-valve with twin overhead camshafts
Garrett turbocharger with intercooler (3.0 bar or 42.8 psi at sea level)
Displacement: 2.0 liters
Bore/stroke: 92/77 mm
Compression ratio: 9.0:1
HP Rating: 750 HP at 8,000 rpm
Peak torque: 545 lb.-ft. at 6,500 rpm
Transmission: Four-wheel drive with programmable active differentials and six-speed Prodrive gearbox
Weight: 2,090 lbs.
0 - 60 mph: 2.3 seconds
Top speed: 155 mph

The real Escudo hill-climb car was probably also geared to something around 155mph. In the games, you have to change the virtual gearing for it to go that fast.

In a similar off-topic bit of info: Mclaren F1GTR's (racers converted back into road cars) can't top 180mph - 60 short of the stat they are renowned for.

That Pikes Peaks Saab probably could hit 200mph without the crazy wings. The stock Saab 9-3 has a particularly good drag coefficient.

Other than the rather odd looking front spoiler that Saab looks amazing! (though the front sort of looks like someone has brought an F1 wing from an auction, and bolted it onto the front of the car!)

Seems GM liked the name "Calais" in the mid eighties as thats when Holden adopted the name (1984 IIRC) and we still use it.

I see someone just mentioned the Z3 Coupe... Problem is, I totally forgot that "normal" models existed:

For some reason I thought that they only did an M-version of the car. Weird. The most surprising point is how cheap the 2.8 and 3.0 versions are. All are well-under $10K now. Hmmmm... Affordable, stylish (to me), and apparently rather reliable. I'll take it!

I honestly had no idea these cars existed until the Pontiac GTO showed up back in 2004/2005. It really upsets you when your American car companies can build something so awesome in foreign markets, and yet, not sell them in the US...

isn't that the truth. Ford is the leading American car company that i see doing that almost constantly, ie. the Focus. the USDM version is so pathetic and just the worse eye-sore you can lease and park anywhere, even a at blind's convention and yes i'm including the SVT versions as well. dude you couldn't put me in one to save humanity, but on a recent re-air of Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson had a ball in a Volvo powered just-give-me-a-ticket-already orange Focus. i'll get the name and model later... and hopefully a picture.
