Audi Avus Quattro Concept
The Audi Avus concept from 1991 was never intended to go into production. It was just a vehicle developed by Audi to say:

"Look what we can do. And yeah, we can do it whenever we want."

Well it took Audi around 15 years to turn the first mid engined Audi supercar concept into a reality. And even though the Audi R8 is a very different beast to the Avus concept they both share the same unmistakable Audi DNA.
The bodywork of the Avus was constructed almost entirely out of aluminium - a fact Audi was proud to show off - which is why it was left unpainted and instead polished to a mirror shine.

Mounted in the center of the car was a highly advanced W12, 6.0 litre engine which produced 509 horsepower. This power was fed to all four wheels using Audi's quattro AWD system and a 6 speed manual gearbox. Top speed of the Avus was a deeply impressive 210 mph.

Good read!

Yeah, I didn't know of this car's existance until last week when I saw a picture of a modded one. It looks like an Audi-badged VW Golf to me.

That's the Audi 50, a more expensive version of the VW Polo. Actually, the Polo is the rebadged one since the 50 was released first.

Welcome to America :sly:. Those are awful, have you ever heard of the Shadow? And I think the Omni was the same thing as the Colt but the Dodge version of it.
Nope.
And they're all just re-badged Mitsubishi Colt/Mirages.
...and, nope.

Yes, the Dodge and Plymouth Colt were built by Mitsubishi but completely unrelated to the others listed. The Dodge Shadow twin was the Plymouth Sundance, built on Chrysler's P-platform. The Omni twin was the Horizon built on the L-platform which was originally developed in France.

I had no idea that Mazda re-badged Fiestas as 121's:

I nearly bought one for my first car, based purely on rarity factor. :P

Here's one I didn't know about until the other day; they made 4-door Integra Type Rs.

Also saw one of these recently; a Corolla WRC Edition. Limited to just 300 cars and was made to celebrate Toyota's effort in the WRC.

I know the dodge shadow wasn't related to the colt or omni. It had more to do with being the follow up to the Charger. I know a lot about them because my Great grandmother owned one for as long as I've been around, but no more since she passed earlier this year. I was just asking if he had seen one not based on any relation to the car he posted, in my experience those who have never seen an Omni/Colt also don't know about the Shadow or other 80s small size family cars. Chevy Nova is another example from the era.

What better way to celebrate you success in the WRC than adding some horrid unrelated alloys and a few bits of red interior trim to a rather dull 115hp 'warm hatch'

I distinctly remember Ford selling a "Super 2000" edition Fiesta, which was basically a sticker pack and a flashed ECU...

Escort Cosworth-based Aston Martin DB7 design proposal:

So really its a Sierra-based Aston proposal. Mind you, it's still a newer platform than the XJS they eventually based it on.

Front 3/4 view reminds me of the Fiat Coupe. Rear 3/4 is remarkably similar to the Focus CC.

I just realized recently that Audi made a sportback model of the A5.

Also, I didn't know about the Honda Accord SiR Coupe.

A rover Integra?
I'm astounded.

It was marketed as a replacement for the early-80s Rover Quintet in Australia. Which was essentially a 5-door Honda Civic.

To be fair, they didn't just rebadge the odd Honda model in markets outside the UK. British Leyland had been using Hondas as a foundation for their own models since the Triumph Acclaim a couple of years earlier, and the Rover 200 that replaced it by the mid-80s. Even the Honda Ballade they were both based on was built at the same Longbridge plant. While the first-gen Honda Legend was given a new body, interior and a range of Rover I4 engines* at their Oxford plant to form the Rover/Sterling 800 series.

The Honda Concerto that replaced the first-gen Integra went on to become the basis for the Rover 200 and 400 series in the early-90s. With the Civic-related Honda Domini superseding it as the base for the 400 in 1995, and the EU Accord becoming the base for the larger 600 series.

*Most Rover models except for the Metro had at least one Honda engine available alongside the Rover blocks. As well as diesels provided by Rover, Peugeot-Citroen and VM Motori.

Still better than a normal Corolla.

I want one. I like how it looks.

Got stick behind one of these in traffic today; suffice to say I'd never seen or heard of one before. The Nissan Almera saloon/sedan.
