An update I have is that the wireless Internet thing is somewhat working. We have a Netgear WGR614 (Wireless-G). Over the weekend, I'm going to try to purchase a Netgear WG111 USB Adapter for my computer to help expand the wireless network. I want to get it to work even if the wireless isn't fully established yet. A thing that concerns me about trying to get that USB Adapter this week is that I heard that the WG111 is being discontinued and that availablity is limited (according to WalMart). I've seen some other USB adapters from the WalMart website. There's this Linksys USB adapter that has its own mini antenna. Perhaps the Netgear one has its own antenna installed within the USB adapter package.

So I'm hoping to be able to use the wireless broadband to enjoy more high-speed Internet access. I usually wanted to go to school to enjoy high-speed Internet (as well as learn something), but I may be able to just stay home and enjoy high-speed. I may even get to look at some TV and streaming music utilizing the high-speed Internet.

I'm still on dial-up. That COULD change depending upon how this weekend goes. I've been on dial-up in this house for as long as we've had Internet access. For perspective, my brother and I joined America Online back in May 1997. Since then, we've still had dialup. But since last month or so, we got a wireless router during what would have been disasterous weather from Tropical Storm Edouard. Will I be part of the high-speed Internet world? I'll be sure to update.

Mission "Get USB Adapter" ... failed. So I'm still stuck with dial-up for now. Probably bad karma that I went to see a football game whereas my parents couldn't get the adapter I wanted.

So dial-up is how I roll now.

[UPDATE] The latest material regarding my connection status is that the router and WiFi network are now operational. This computer is NOT WiFi ready. So I'll still need that Netgear adapter to connect to this network. Depending on when we can get the Netgear WG111, I may soon be able to join the network.

For the first time ever, my odyssey of wireless broadband is here. I now have DSL broadband! I was able to get this to work even as I had a few struggles with trying to get a wireless broadband deal going. I have installed a Netgear WG311 v3 on my computer and now able to enjoy broadband for the first time ever. The Wireless-G network was completed just today. Glad to be on with you cats on GTP in broadband after 11 years on dialup.

One other thing... this wireless broadband network is good for about 54.0 Mbps with a signal rated at Very Good. I don't know how this compares to using the Internet at school, but this is preety good.

Urgh, my ISP is going down again. I can't even open my Facebook application without using a proxy...... :banghead:

I've got cable 25 mbit / 2.5 mbit which is pretty descent. I'm always hosting all the races online in GT5p I'm participating in so it must be good.

I think I might qualify for the worst, overpayed and rubbish internet ever.

Depends on what you pay for that.

This connection should be 6mbps down and 640kbps up, but the lines are rubbish.
And still GT5P tries to make me host 12 player races.

From my new digs:

BTW, I’m doing this over wireless… dunno if that affects anything (I’m networking-challenged).

W00t! my ISP upgrades my 24/2 connection to 100/5 mb/s and no change in the price!:D it's not active yet, but soon.. :dopey:

as it is:

Not great value for money at 40 euros/month, but at least no data limit and good support.

As they run more fiber around me, my speed is slowly going up. 👍
