Canberra has less people using their services, which will give you a much better ping(less the better). A lower ping gives you a better connection also.

Yeah, that's a good point.

Had another whirl at a not so peak time.

Hopefully I can beat 100 soon.

Not 300km. Maybe around 100? Takes an hour. That's the fastest internet we can get in our area.:)

Well you need to know these speeds are based on Megabits not Megabytes. Their are 8 bits per a byte and to get your speed in megabytes from megabits, you need to divide the result by 8. Speedtest by default posts the results in bits but you can change it to bytes in your settings as I learned from this page here. Also read about #15 on that page, it explains ping there.

Hmm, so my speed was really only like 0.06MB/s Thanks nick :P

My speed's just been capped because i somehow used up my 5GB monthly allowance. :odd:

This is just ridiculous. :grumpy:

Wait, this is a random n00b question, but is that why when you get a 512kb/s connection, it only downloads at 50-60KB/s? They must measure it in kilobits.

Give or take.

What a joke. I don't see how anyone could possibly want to live in this inept country.

Lol owned. And I'm not even paying half $120.

So to theory with my connection I can download in 1.25MB/s and upload in 121.25KB/s but the upload is a tad bit off as I have uploaded as high as 140KB/s.

Apparently my ISP sucks. Fifty-four percent = teh fail. Fortunately I've not had an issue for over a year* and when I did it was handled within the hour.

My university's wireless. Funny thing is speedtest used one of the uni's own servers to perform the test! LOL
