Yep, most of the cars we've seen sso far are premium cars. I'll just quote the list from the Master Car List thread:
That list may not be 100% accurate though. Again, if anyone find any car(s) in that list that haven't been seen as premium, let me know and I'll delete it/them. đź‘Ť

GT
Indeed, those cars looked great; no fault! The corvette's windows aren't completely blacked-out; when the camera is lower you can clearly see the driver and the scenery through the windows.

The models themselves look great, dare I say they look awesome. So do the reflections...just imagine the physics engine and those cars.

I am sure that players will forget all their moaning once they're playing the finished product; so many cars, day-night, damage, dirt, hopefully weather, WRC, SuperGT, NASCAR, great tracks.

Great work PD!

Agree standard car's look great outside almost as premium...

Maybe I'm blind, but I don't think the difference is that great. To have 200+ cars being premium is amazing in of itself, and 800+ total cars is great work. I'm fine with the way it is.

Thankfully we share the same thought concerning this; look at it from PD's point of view: they're working for so many years and now they're almost finished and what happens? Majority of the fans go insane about specifics...

I think it's a wise choice to model the premium cars with that much detail; I also think it's a wise choice to include 800 cars from GT's past. All in all, I believe PD's done all they could in this regard and who knows what the finished product will yet reveal...

Sure, I was disappointed, but after some logical thinking it became clear to me: PD made a choice - a good one at that - and that's all there is to it. There is no need to flip out over something that we cannot control. Get over it, accept it and move on.

As mentioned before, PD have my confidence and I am NOT AT ALL bothered by the standard cars; I'm glad they're here!

Totally agree. They could have chosen the same way as they did in GT3 and only put the 200+ premium cars in the game (which is already more than any other racing game on the PS3 i'm aware of). Instead you get a bonus of 800 upscaled cars from the previous games on top of those premiums.

We should feel spoiled, not let down.

I am so glad we don't have any say in the game otherwise it would never get released. I think this is one of these that might seem like a big deal right now, but once you get into the game it won't be. I would rather have the wide selection of cars to race against than a select premium few. Plus the cars that are not premium had to take almost nothing to add so I think are understanding of time supposedly wasted on these non premium cars isn't quite right. Anyways I am so use to not having a dash in GT that I will be excited to hit a premium car here and there for an awesome racing experience!

It's not so much that I'm disappointed we'll be getting 800 cars that are "Standard", so much as I'm disappointed that PD has continued its legacy of over-promising and under-delivering. Remember how many times we were told the game was a completely fresh chapter? That they weren't going to recycle GT4 assets, like their original demo of GTHD; that was supposed to be a stop-gap example of what could be possible, but here we are almost 5 years later... and it turns out we really are just getting upscaled GT4 models.

Yeah, we get some Premium models; but considering how many years its been, this isn't remotely revolutionary. PD places such a huge emphasis on graphics that the rest of the game has suffered; cars did not need to be modeled down to individual bolts down by the exhaust. Nobody would've complained if they weren't. Since they are, it gives fanboys a great fall-back to brag about ("pfft, Forza models aren't as detailed!"), but it's meant the majority of the game really is just GTHD. Since we've seen the Premium tags on tracks too, it's a fair assumption that the majority of tracks are going to be GT4 assets upscaled too. How is this progress?

I question the PSP excuse because Kaz has always, always refused to accept blame for his drawn-out timelines. As soon as they realized how long the current Premium cars take to model fully, they should've set the bar to a lower, more realistic level, so that we wouldn't have the "feature" of two separate car tiers. If you're planning on including 1000 cars in a game, and one car takes even more than a month to finish completely, then you're doing it wrong if you ever plan on releasing.

What we're now seeing is a game that's taken a half-decade to create, and when we look at new content, it's what, 200 cars and a handful of tracks? The giant remaining chunk of the game being nothing more than GT4 at higher res? This is the new revolution?

I'm upset because as usual, we were lied to. And it's not terribly surprising that also, as usual, PD is incapable of accepting blame for any of the shortcomings, and the fanboys have gotten so used to this situation, that they readily lay the blame elsewhere for the company too. All of you who used the defense that the constant delays were worth it, so that the game could be made perfect: where do you stand now? Shouldn't it be delayed another few years?

I accept Kaz has a passion for automobiles. He really does. But he has an absolutely terrible business acumen.

I didn't scan for every single car on that list myself, but so far, I haven't noticed anyy mistakes in there. Great work man, it's much appreciated đź‘Ť

Luckily, I thing PD did a good job with the car selection so far (going by that list). There are only a very, very few cars (as in, 5 out of those 150+) that I think shouldn't be premium.

Those cars looked very good. đź‘Ť

I agree with all of you too. :) Here are some stills I captured of the HD .mov. All clickable for large version. The whole set can be found on my Flickr account. Discuss!

thank you NLxAROSA for the good job!
Standard cars don't look so bad...
the worst thing are the white old car's (don't know the name, side view, in you flick'r account) back and front windshields...
the rest of them are not as good as premiums but they really look "upscaled", as Polyphony said

The C5.R looks pretty damn good. If they didn't tell me it was upscaled, I doubt I'd be able to spot the difference.

1,000 cars= cannot complain. Just hope they all have a cockpit.

As I say standard car's look great!!! Maybe standard car's will look even better in final version of GT5, game is still in developing...

Where have we seen premium tags on tracks? I am worried that PD will include every track from GT4 and do the same treatment they are doing with the standard cars. Bad idea in my opinion.

For you who still think standard cars will have cockpit view, look at this.

Premium, we can see the interiors through the carglass.

Standard, carglass is about as black as my assh*le, clearly they won't have cockpit view.

I just recieved a reply to my email regarding the Kotaku GT5 article. This is what I wrote (I apologize for some minor brown-nosing :

Hello there .

I've been following your website for quite a while now, and all I can say is thumbs up! .

I just read your E3 article on GT5, and I have one question, if you don't mind .

It's about this segment of the article:

"The developers have created fully modeled interiors for the Premium cars, as well as doing detailed modeling for the car's undercarriage and even the exhaust pipes! The Standard cars apparently won't have the exact interior modeling. For example, an Enzo's interior will look like the real deal, but your typical Mustang's will look like exactly like Mustang's."

Maybe you have noticed, but there has been quite a lot of fuss regarding the recent announcement of Premium and Standard cars in GT5, and if the latter have cockpit view or not. What you write in the above segment indicates that the standard cars do indeed have a cockpit/dashboard view, just not nearly as detailed as the premium cars.

Could you by any chance clarify this? Because according to some other articles, it suggests that the Standard cars don't have any form of cockpit/dashboard view. So do the standard cars have some sort of a cockpit/dashboard view? Also, if you happen to know, are the Standard cars simply upscaled GT4 models, or have the car models been improved so thy don't look out of place in a race with premium cars?

If you have the time and info to answer those questions, I (and probably all of GTplanet.com :P ) would be really thankful .

Best regards

And this is the reply I got:

"What you write in the above segment indicates that the standard cars do indeed have a cockpit/dashboard view, just not nearly as detailed as the premium cars."

That's correct. And that's why I wrote it.

He didn't comment on if the standard cars would be simply upscaled GT4 models or not, but this indicates that the standard cars should have a cockpit view, just not with the same amount of details as the premium cars.

Just wanted to let you guys know

Judging from the standard cars video, you can see some of the interior of the car, but then again you could also see that in GT4.

Surprisingly GT4 had detailed interiors. Look at the RX8, you can clearly see the iconic Rotor shaped seats

jdmking was wondering have these game reviewers(iron/kotaku) actually seen with their eyes cockpit view on standard cars? because as far as im aware, there are no standard cars to drive. or have they been told by a rep?

I don't know ,part of me is saying that why would they show us a video of a standard Camaro whil we knoe it is premium so maybe they are fooling us :dunce: or maybe this guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

I'm with you on that even if they got this info on the cockpit situation i want to see a standard in action for my self. I'm guessing they got this info from a rep. I'm just posting this because everyone counted out all ready we wont have cockpit view for the standard cars and i think we will get a generic version.

We are getting GT HD finally and every one hates it. its a Bounus to GT5 in m opinion. These are the same car models from GTHD. I can live with that but two things worry me. The tires are half assed and the engine sounds will probably suffer.

I would be right there with ya... if this was 2 years ago.

if we do get cockpit i dont think it will be generic unless its just the black border psp thing. if theres a dash then i dont think they will be 800 same interior dashes in different cars....would be too weird
