Yeah I guess you're right ( I also remember now those bikes having more polygons than the GT4 cars ).
That track was probably Valencia I guess?

Ah, well that explains why they look so good in photo mode, then!

Valencia: that's the badger! The red and yellow rumble strips look really cool reflected in the fairing as you ride :dopey:

Here are some of mine, the only GT4 Photo mode pics I have ever done, untouched, really surprised how good Tsukuba looks in GT4!
The in race ones have flat wheels, but the photo mode location one doesn't.

You can see the lights filtering into the M-Coupe interior on the seats and pillars.
There is more modelling done inside, than I thought

You know what they shouldn't of announced that they were doing Standard and Premium cars. Because most people probably wouldn't even notice the difference if they weren't blatantly told.
You'd all just be like yay 1000 HD cars rather then it's **** that there's only 200 good cars. Get over it they're still going to look good, they're running the same physics and they all still have an in-car view and damage.
You also haven't seen the final result so you can't really say that the standard cars look like crap

Really? Did you see the ****storm over FM3 and how the interiors are blacked out during races?

I somehow don't think just not metnioning it would have ended up with people not noticing.

cant believe how good GT4 still looks, might have to dig out the old playstation 2 for a blast round the ring. got no memory card tho :( why did my 60 gb break!!

It doesn't look very good in-game on modern screens. Those screens are 720p when saved.

Resolution and detail are much less different between the two HD formats than between SD and HD.

which is why im cursing my dead 60 gb unit. anyway ive dug out the ps2 slim and game now, looking forward to a refresher, and i found a memory card

Every time someone says this, I have to chuckle. I know this probably causes groans in some of you, but I do a double take when I see some of these GT4 Photo Mode shots. Yes, some obviously look like they came from an old video game, but some look amazingly realistic. This is something the much more advanced Forza 2 rarely did for me. And yes, I think this bodes well for Standard cars - and tracks if we get them - in GT5.

I know that many here are do little more than sneer at the Standard cars, and enjoy poking fun at their supporters, but look, most of the car list is going to be in those Standard lots. If you have numerous cars you enjoy in GT4, which I do, I'm going to be driving the heck out of these Standards, and even snapping high res pics of them. If you love 30 or 40 cars which will only be Standard cars, and will be handling with this wonderful new physics engine, can you honestly say that any visible polygons are going to spoil your experience? Or that you won't even touch them?

My own gallery is still pending, as I'm trying to do too many things at once, and my creative outlets - as well as the hunt for a cute girlfriend - are devouring all my free time and then some. :P

If you have the slightest urge to try GT4 again, I highly suggest you do. It's still so good it draws me away from my PC sims, thanks to all the goodies, and all those cars and tracks.

What's so funny in pointing out a game made for PAL SD standards looks poor on a 1080p TV? The cars Photomode puts out are essentially CGI and whilst they do represent what they pertain to be and are attractive for it, you couldn't ever look at one and think 'wow, it's a photo'. If you think so, then sorry, your powers of deduction aren't working.

Im just wondering how those who are gagging at the standard cars and are crying about it would feel if PD got fed up of all this crying and said they wont continue with GT because of all this hatred.

PS I mean when they finish GT5 they might not make GT6 because of all the ungreatful people.

It's pointless. On my 22 inch flatscreen which is roughly of the same era as GT4's progressive video output (which was reserved for NTSC anyway because those tellys were more popular in the US and Asia at that time) it looks better. It's bleeding obvious it can't keep up with modern TVs 40 inches and above. Not even the current gen consoles can.

Take the GT4 stills, add some refined lightning and particle effects, and the result still looks very decent. The artistic approach of PD still works very well.

"Hate" has become a very popular word on the interweb it seems. If you ask me personally, I wouldn't have minded "GT5 has 200 exclusive cars, plus a vintage pack with all your favourites models from the GT franchise.". But after GT5P, adding on a side note "Oh, well, actually, it's a 1000 cars, but, erm, we didn't have the time to do them to GT5P standard so 800 are in fact only a body, a driving "physics" model" and some generic dials like 6 years ago." got me a bit upset.

PD knows themselves they made a bummer for sure. They came 12 months too late.

But hey, 200 cars are 200 cars, plenty enough for me.

Pity, some don't know the difference between hate and obvious disappointment.

IMHO the attitude and complaints by many concerning this issue, has been well earned by Sony/PD.

If your going to expend almost 6 yrs. to make the next installment of GT, and then reveal 800 cars will be GT4.5 and 200 will be GT6, you have clearly laid the groundwork for a critical reaction, especially when you have released the GT5P teaser halfway into the time frame.

Up until recently I have put the blame on Sony and still think they bare the brunt of it. However when you here Kaz say they have pushed the detail of the 200 premium cars beyond GT6, I have to reconsider that conclusion and ask myself why didn't he bring 1000 cars up to GT5 instead.

Overall the game will probably be good enough that this situation will not be a major distraction, ( I guess thats what their counting on) except to the anal graphics crowd.

At any rate thats what were gonna get, and I for one can certainly understand the criticism.

Has the rumour I saw on here that Standards and Premiums are being kept away from each other in different modes been denied or confirmed?

200 largely eclectic cars in the Premium mode might be a bit of a dull experience after the depth GT has become known for. Look at how GT3 faired after GT2's variety.

PS I mean when they finish GT5 they might not make GT6 because of all the ungreatful people.

For Sony/PD, as with all others in the gaming business, gratitude is measured by game sales fiqures, not by what might be said on a forum or even a critical review.

At this point in time, I don't see any indication that GT5 is in danger of having a problem in that category.

As with all the other installments of GT, GT5 is likely to make the Top 50 in total game sales.

There has been no confirmation on whether they will be separated or not. In my opinion it would be stupid to separate them.

You say that now but I bet if you see them together, you may still not agree with the separationists, but you won't think it's a stupid idea. I don't think it's a very good one, since GT is firstly about driving, but I realize where it comes from and the way I see it, it does make enough sense to be valid.

I'm sure a lot of people don't care they look worse, but judging from what I see here, and specially other forums, a lot of those people don't realize how much worse they look. Those will have a very unpleasant surprise when they fire up GT5.

On a different note, regarding how upset some appear to get when they hear someone criticizing GT to the point they think the criticizers are just haters:

I'm relatively new to GTP, meaning I wasn't here when any of the other GT games launched, so I can't know this for sure, but I imagine that when GT5 launches, this website will get a massive influx of new members. Right now we are mostly fans, and believe it or not, even we upset fans don't hate the game. We are fans, we are following a GT forum even when there's pretty much nothing to talk about GT. In other words, we love it. The casuals that will probably flood this forum after november 2nd on the other hand, do not. Well, maybe then you'll finally realize the difference between criticizing and hating.

Did they lay out that 60 million on GT6?

Yes, pretty much. Most, if not all, the assets from GT5 will be used to make GT6. Just like GT4/GTPSP assets are being used in GT5. They don't make one game and dump everything they have created and star from scratch for the next game.
Of course they could just take all the money they'll make from GT5 and quit.

Exactly, even now you get the occasional: "OMG can't 🤬 believe PD does blablabla lol" from some people only to disappear again after they made a rather blatantly obvious statement or shouted abuse to the point the they get banned instantly.
Come November this will unfortunately happen all the time I predict ( hopefully I'm wrong ) and those here who try to constructively criticize ( despite knowing ofcourse nothing will change now for GT5 ) in the hope of supplying feedback to PD only do it because they love the game, why else complain about something you don't care about?

Count me in for "don't really care." Since the start I have been more worried about whether the Standards will have interiors rather than whether or not they look as good as the Premiums. I suppose it is the result of only having an SDTV.

true, but i don't care and my tv is a 1080p 45 inch

to me they just look like the premiums with very dark tinted windows. The shaders could not be different, and the loss of detail wouldn't be too apparent.

I think its the manner they're presented that makes them look worse than the other cars. We need the photo mode comparisons...

Not hating or criticizing here ;), but, how exactly do you know they will look worse? After all we have not seen much of it and many things hint at the standards being improved.

Well, I think it's safe to say you haven't been following this thread.

There is nothing more overrated in Gran Turismo than the graphical quality of cars. I voted to focus on other features.

Their biggest purpose is to look good in the E3 trailers. After that, they do almost nothing. While racing, you can't even see most of your car. And you certainly don't have enough time to count polygons or scrutinize the surface textures of the AI cars in front of you during the middle of a lap. Sure, they are nice to look at in the garage, but google image search is a nice substitute for that. I'm more excited for the upgrade to the tracks than the cars.

Gran Turismo's graphics have reached a point where they are still very good either way. The racing/driving experience really doesn't change at all whether we have "standard" looking cars or premium ones. Now if they don't include a cockpit, that's a whole different story.

This is when you notice the difference between Standard and Premium cars - you won't see standard cars showcased like this :)

Actually, Photo Mode would probably be the worst place to compare Standards versus Premiums. The small images on the PD website, or the Standard car video, show Standards in optimal conditions. Photomode outputs 18mp images, and even Premiums show tiny bits of sharp polygons or blurry textures at that level. That's despite Premiums being comprised of roughly 100x as many polygons (4000 vs 500K), and texture resolutions that are a lot higher as well.
