What's this BS about most of the used cars will be standard? There are plenty of premium cars that can be used.

Premium cars will most likely be sold from their respective manufacturers CAR DEALER as new cars. That's what a few people have come to conclude. It makes sense that standard cars would be sold from the used car dealer.

I hope the rest of the premiums to be announced will be some very basic sports cars like Celica, Civic Type R, MR2, Silvia, SVX, 300ZX etc. Otherwise the GT Life Mode could end up being a mixed experience with the standard cars having most of the affordable tuners to begin with.

Same here if there ain't gonna be more Premium JDM cars. then there is no reason for me to play GT5.

What's standard VS premium?

Or someone PM me some kid deleted my thread.

That "kid" was a GTPlanet moderator.
And regarding your question;
It was confirmed not so long ago that there will be two types of cars, standard and premium. The standards will have no interior/cockipit, low beams, less damage effect and are basically just upscaled models from GT4. Whereas, the premium models are beautifully modeled, HAVE interiors/cockipts, high beams and more damage effects.

Which is why this thread was created. For people to give their views on what they think about standards and premiums and whether standards should be in this gen. IMO, its prefectly fine and I'm happy with it.

Moderators can't be kids? lol

Well that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard and seriously may damper whether I even buy a PS3 for this game. They've spent this long to make a game and half asses one of the good aspects of a racing game? What did they waste the time doing?

Welcome to the world of Gran Turismo 5, you're quite a bit late to the party but I suggest you to read the whole thread before expressing your kind words about the Standard vs Premium issue. ;)

Nah, don't do that, I'll summarize things for you:
There will be standards which look quite bad, there will be Premiums which are awesome in every way. Things won't change no matter how much you complain or whine. Have fun.

Oh, and latest word in the streets is that Famine is just an 8-year old, so you can go ahead and complain about the lock in your thread directly to him as he's younger and should bend to your argumentation easily. :D

It's probably the ones I want to drive that don't have cockpits. Do we have a list of which do and don't?

Nope. But there have been a wide variety, through Ferrari, Pagani Zonda R, Ferrari P4, to Volvos and Suziki capuchinos, to Skylines and RX7s.

I'm sure there is some you will like. But I'm sure cockpit view isn't fully necessary for every car.

GTPSP,GTP,R35 Skyline computer UI,Toyota/Pd useless gps track ghost replay thing.3D Support.I could go on naming things that wasted PD's time. Kaz driving home in his GT40 and getting stuck in traffic.etc...

If you're using cockpit view ( or used to cockpit view ) it isn't exclusively to one type or multiple types of cars only, you want it on every car.
And Simon Tibbett has a point that the cars he likes may not be the ones having this feature.
Sure there's variety in the types of Premium cars and sure there will be cars to cater for all tastes ( although some tastes may not be catered to as much as others ), still leaves 800 cars ( with a lot of my GT4 favourites no doubt ) without this feature.

I would think of it as a plus point to the 200 cars. Rather then 800 cars without a feature.

Question, do you use it in Prologue all the time?

I became rather fond of the interior view to be honest - it just adds so much to the atmosphere.

But to many, at least that's my feeling, cars are just tools to win the race. Whatever car will get the job done they'll jump to. Others prefer the 3rd person view because they like to watch the show and get the better noise from the exhaust.

But I can see now how PD had to draw the line somewhere, so I've made my peace with that decision.

The reason that most people don't (and, quite frankly, shouldn't_ is because of the way PD has been hyping them all.
The reason I feel most people view it as a missing feature, not a bonus, is because I (and most others) like to race in one view at all times, for every car. Switching back and forth between views makes it hard to hone your skills consistently. So if I'm going to use cockpit view in the 200 cars that allow it, the other 800 really do become essentially unusable.

Photomode and tuning options say hi in Shift and FM2, let alone 3.

Why is is such an issue that people might feel they've moved on from GT? You know, if it ended up with some of these features of other games and more people felt inclined to rejoin the happy clappy la la GT world then the game would have been put out of reach of its competitors, but as it is, hype and graphics aren't really tangible reasons to spend a lot of money on a game that might get a bit stale pretty quickly.

Thats funny.

Oh really.... well how come its on the official US playstation blog then! :dunce: Don't misinform people because then it will spread all over the net.

Thats why its so stupid in my opinion, if PD are trying to make a game which is absolutely beautiful and groundbreaking why ruin it with stuff like this. Its like having an art gallery full of priceless pieces and then some (or in this case 80%) shop bought posters from Argos!

Robin.
Sorry alot of people dont share your view on this. With the new lighting system and physics engine applied to the standard cars, alot of people welcome them. Sure they don't look to the quality of Premiums but there is a HUGE list of standard cars I want to drive. And I know that when racing at 150 mph around a track some of us won't be studying the cars' shutlines or polygon counts.

Kaz should have put his foot down and left the game at 200 premiums and been able to soak up the praise for a graphical powerhouse and not have 200 brilliant cars and 800 poor relations. It's a poor compromise to suit numbers fans.

Or it's for suiting car fans. Yeah I would prefer all cars to premium level, but me and many others are glad we didn't loose some of these brilliant car models from the past just because you can't get over some visual differences, the driving physics will be the same. Lack of cockpit is my biggest complaint but I still love being able to drive alot of these previous cars.

And you calling a moderator a kid is funny, you made a new thread requesting people to tell you what standards vs premiums thread topic was about instead of browsing the thread yourself.

The experience throughout the whole game will indeed be inconsistent and it will make people who prefer cockpit view ( like me ) choose the cars which have this feature over cars which don't even when in real life ( or if all cars were similarly modelled ) you would've chosen differently.
It's not purely based on honing your skills, even when aimlessly driving around just for the sake of it I'm beginning to doubt I will use the Standard cars very often not because I dislike those cars ( far from it ) but purely because the lack of cockpit view.

For online races, learn to switch from your favourite view to 3rd person in the corners. Unfortunately, this gives you a huge edge over the competition. Maybe they include head tracking in non stereoscopic 3D mode for all cars, though I doubt it.

But sadly, no view and no amount of mirrors give you the information needed to come out first out of a corner than 3rd person view :guilty:
