For me, cockpit view, sound and physics are all equally important, with graphics not too far behind. If I only cared about physics and sound I wouldn't give a damn about GT5, I'd be focusing on games like iRacing, Live for Speed, GTR/RACE and its derivatives (of which I've wasted most my time playing of any games). GT5 needs cockpits and needs graphics for me to shell out the $450-500AUD for a PS3. That's just my perspective though ;)

LFS for sound? It's even more synth than any GT game :/
And they're redoing the tyre model/physics of it, because the game had issues making a virtual Sirocco handle properly....

Same for iRacing, they're redoing the tyre model, so the current physics can't be all that good, and they aren't IMO. GTR Series has pretty simple physics as well thanks to the ISI engine.

I feel GT6 is more likely to be released on the PS3 rather than the PS4. You can pretty much guarantee PD are already converting the standards into premiums.

My prediction of the future is GT6 will be released around 2013. The PS4 won't be released until between 2014/16. Also the PS4 will not have an optical drive and will be released with a 1TB HDD. All games will be purchased online. So if you work in a Game store make sure you hand in your notice around this time because buying games from shops/online retailers will be a thing of the past.

I would explain further but I need to jump back into my time machine.

P.S the above depends on whether we survive Dec 21st 2012!

How do you know that PS4 won't have optical drive?? I know a lot of people who don't have connected PS3 on ethernet because for they are old school gamers(me to) and we like to play game offline and in split screen mode?!? How we will buy games than????

It'll probably use flash cards by then. A 100gb card is getting cheaper by the day. No moving parts is better for reliability and noise.
I had an Intellivision as a kid with ROM cartridges... technology sure flies along...

I was thinking the other day how small capacity hard drives are very cheap these days. They're obviously never going to be as cheap as optical media because they have lots of moving parts etc, but they have advantages in speed and so on.

I think it would be interesting if one of the next gen consoles went back to a cartridge based format, whether the cartridge was flash based or HD-based.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't present assumptions as fact. Sony have confirmed the PS4 will support physical media.

Also, if you genuinely believe Polyphony are wasting their time on converting 800 cars from a six-year-old game to current-generation standards...
Standard cars serve no purpose but padding out GT5's vehicle count in order that people less intelligent than ourselves won't accuse Polyphony of throwing away five years of work.

I think we have all accepted some of the sorry physics in GT and Forza, and their shortcomings.

What "sorry physics in GT?" You sure have a habit of avoiding explaining your opinions when it suits you. :odd:

Do you want to pay $100 per game?
NAND based "media" will likely bottom out at around $1/gb and we're still far off from that.
Swapping in hard drives every time you want to play a new game while also having another HDD of flash drive storing all your other info doesn't make sense.

Give me one reason why Sony would do that after the PSP-Go fiasco. Also, it would require broadband internet connections all over their global market. By 2014? Fat chance IMO.

On-topic: I suspect the chances we'll see the standards back in GT6 are minimal.

I'm with you on the flash thing as being unlikely, mostly because of cost.

But. Say that they can get 50GB magnetic hard drives for a trivial cost though. That's not so far fetched that it's improbable. Mount said hard drive in some sort of case that simply slots into the machine, basically the same as old ROM cartridges. It seems weird having two hard drives in one machine, but if you didn't tell people they'd never know. A cartridge is a cartridge. It's really no different to swapping discs every time you want to play a game.

I'll admit to it being unlikely. But I thought it was an interesting thing to consider.

Why are you asking about GT6 and the PS4? HE SAID HE HAS A TIME MACHINE. Isn't that the more important revelation?

Oh wait... maybe he wasn't trying to pass anything off as fact, and was making light of the situation. 💡

I only that bit where I agree, the rest is just illogical, optical media will stay because data is really complicated to be allocated without being damaged, and people pay 60$ because they need a physical object to store the data, and I heard something about catadriges but that wont work either because the catadriges are more expensive to be produced, and regular user will not pay huge amounts of money for that.

(BTW sorry if I misspell catadriges)

Ever heard of USB flash drives, they're tiny and a lot more robust and reliable than any optical media. With USB3 in now, the speed is pretty nice. 4GB USB cards are so cheap now, a lot of products use them instead of floppy discs or CD for bundling drivers/content with products.
In fact, I have a whole stack of em, I've transfered all my Windows XP and Windows 7 OS discs onto them as CD/DVD have a nasty habit of being unreadable after a period of time...

Hell they could create a ROM section on the flash card, and a small section for writing data for saves and what not. Then you won't need another separate drive

GT6's gap, as told to us by Kazunori, won't be as bog a gap as GT5's to GT4. Expect GT6 in 2 and a half years, still on the PS3. Ps4 may never exist for another 6 years, as the PS3 is an incredible machine with lots of un-tapped potential.

I agree with you on this. I honestly think there is no need to improve the graphics of GT6 from GT5 because they already look better than anything else. Forzas graphics have pretty much remained the same for all 3 games, and I still enjoyed those, and GT looks much better than that series, so for me, improved sound, physics, more premiums, and more content should be the focus for GT6 and they already have a great GT5 engine to work off of. It should not take 5+ years.

Applying the PD rule of delays, 2.5-3 years seems pretty optimistic. No full GT game for console has been released in less time than it's predecessor, but I really hope that trend is finally broken.

You have to consider the number of features introduced to it,track editor and weather its not an easy task,as well modelling the full HD numburgring and making a lot of premiums,as well take consideration the rally segment of the game and nascar, which are renewed modes to this GT.

I believe GT6 = Launch title for PS4, PS4 out by 2014 latest, most likely early 2013.

As far as cartridges go, way too expensive. As for flash drives, still too expensive (considering next gen media has to hold at least 64 gigs of data as this time around the visual leap wouldn't be in resolution or polygon count, it would be in textures and lighting). I still expect some evolution of blu-ray, between 8-12x (thats 36-54 MBps, pretty decent).

I believe PD would actually want to do next GT for next gen as it's already pushing the PS3 to its limits (and beyond). I don't see a high premium count GT6 happening on the PS3, may be some DLCs but thats it. GT6 as a launch title would kill, Sony would want that after what happened with the PS3 and the PSP in their early years.

And for the capabilities of current gen consoles are concerned, any PC gaming aficionado would agree that consoles are showing their age, especially in terms of textures and shadow mapping.

Kaz did mention some features in GT5 would be better suited for the next generation console. Then he mentions how the wait for GT6 won't be very long.

Well we've had 2 "complete" GT games each console right? I think we'll get GT6 for PS3 with obviously an advancement on the features we have already, (more premiums, more detailed track editor, livery editor) and so on.....

Most likely :)

Yup, I agree, GT6 will release on the PS3. Sony has stated that they plan on keeping a 10 year cycle for the PS3 given the investment they have put into it, and the capabilities of it. Also, I think GT6 will have all premium cars, and improvement on current features with a few more minor features. Don't expect it to be a huge difference like it is between GT4 and GT5.

No, I am pretty sure GT6 will release this gen on PS3 in 2-3yrs with say 200 more premium cars and upgrade in damage model, variable weather, gfx and so on ...

Right now I think this is best they can do. GT6 will be improved GT5 obviously not as big jump like GT4 to GT5
