I am on the fence whether they should have left the standard cars out and just focused on 200+ premiums, GT3 A-Spec style. I think it would have caused less controversy to be honest, but I can see why some people want the rest.
Agree 100%.

In all honesty, GT5 would have been a better game if it only had those 200 premium cars.

This 'some cars can do this, but others can't' was crap BEFORE we found out we couldn't swap wheels on standard cars. This to me is a major fault.

I don't friggin' care who calls me out, calls me a whiner, if you're alright with this, your standards for a game that has been in development for over five years are too low.

I guess things like this explain why Sony have been so eager to not show anything standard apart from one video.

They themselves don't think the Standards are good. Otherwise they would bother showing them so that we could see the tremendous variety of cars in-game. Just to prove Sony and Polyphony's confidence in the Standards, the very introduction video of GT5 only shows Premiums, despite the fact that you'll have the Standards playing a part in your career.

I am not even that huge of a GT fan, but some of you are being ridiculous. You are nitpicking at small things and are not appreciating the amount of content this game has. Go back to your Forza 3, where you wont even have half of these options.

wotever sunshine..

i've never played forza... GT has always been the more FINISHED title... until now

maybe these things might be small to you.. but to others they are part of what makes GT what it is...

this has taken something away from the essence of what GT is in my book... ( aswell as alot of others )

now..

with only 10 posts to your name, and an admited non gt fan , comments like this might be better of unsaid.. :sly:

What a moaning lot you all are. I tell you what don't buy GT5 and stick with Forza. However i've just switched FM3 off only 30mins ago because their was only 30 people playing in the production hopper!

You all need your eyes testing. Compare the videos below and note the GT5 video has obviously been recorded via a camera pointing at a TV.

Now look at direct 720p feed from FM3.

The fact that the GT5 video looks better is incredible. Just imagine what it will be like when playing on a decent HDTV.

This thread has gone on long enough. Either you accept there is only 200 premiums cars and stick with these or don't buy GT5. I personally shall be enjoying all 1000 cars.

Did you even read the last couple of comments? Doesn't look like it.

I'm just shocked that after 6 years of development and a budget of 60 million dollars, there is so much disappointment with this game. Kazunori is the man for the job but I think his team consists of a bunch of snails. How can it take 6 months to model one freaking car?! Some of the freelance 3D modelers I know finish a high poly car in 2-3 weeks with interior and exterior modeled to perfection. They don't even have the available resources that the PD guys have.

I'm just gonna stop right there because I know some of you will call my a whiner but if a game is in development for 6 years, it should have slightly more content.

Millions of people will agree with me, and it will recieve some of the greatest scores in gaming. That should be more than enough to outdo the 10 upset people who are currently on this topic.

Most of these features that are being nitpicked (aside from standard) werent even in GT5 so none of the "essence" of GT5 is even being taken out as you claim.

So just use the 200 and I shall use all the cars. That way everyone is happy.

Really getting irritated by these silly comments about the development time. Do you honestly think all PD had to do was model the cars. I can think of many features that were requested for FM3 that failed to be in the game that are all in GT5.

Maybe im easier to please because i've witnessed gaming change from the 1980s to what we have now. The trouble with some in this community is they are too picky. If development was left to you lot we would never see GT5 being released!

Funny how FM3 was hardly poorly received by critics yet was brought to its knees by people unhappy with features within it. Change FM3 for GT5 and you will almost certainly have great scores from the critics and we already have disappointment with PD for not implementing certain features as fully as we'd have liked.

FM3 and GT5 aren't going to be too dissimilar in many ways.

Nitpicking that 8 out of every 10 cars in the game don't have a cockpit, after being mislead about it for years? For what's supposed to be the greatest car game ever?

And stop saying that EVERY PERSON who has a valid thing to say about a mistake the GT people made are Forza fans. You all sound like moron fanboys when you pull that crap, and it's stupid to peacock that line over and over and over again. GT is not perfect, and it's sad that the most hardcore fans can't accept this in order to improve their product in the future, like for GT6, which is rumored to come out in 2067. And by the way, I don't own a Xbox. I sim race on PC with iRacing mostly and bought a PS3 over three years ago for GT5.

lol there is day and night difference between them. But they never compare with others and just try to make it as good as they can. People will always complain no matter what they do

Stop saying 8 of 10 cars because that number is only for shock. That would hold weight if there were only 10 cars out of eight. But there are still 200 cars no matter how you try and slice it up. And youre getting mad at a stigma that really isnt even the point that I am trying to make. The point is that whatever sim they like, the nitpicking for this game is outrageous.

I didn't really have that big of a problem with it until the video showing that you can't change rims on standard cars either. Pretty weak. I'm still getting the game, I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but for a game that took this long to develop because they are obsessed with "perfection," that seems to be a pretty glaring omission.

What you have to realise is some of us aren't bothered about the lack of cockpit view because we don't use it. Some of us are looking forward to using the 800 standard cars. Im personally looking forward to using the standard cars online or hotlapping around Top gear TT.

Let me make this simple. The requested features that GT5 has that are missing from FM3 are:
1. Top Gear TT.
2. Dynamic weather.
3. Day/Night cycles.
4. 16 online.

Now all of the above can be used whilst driving in a standard car. So some of us aren't bothered about the lack of cockpit view because we are looking forward to the above features.

Sorry but some of you are just ignorant. Do you honestly think it only takes PD 5mins to develop a weather system or model tracks such as Rome. Lets not forget PD developed GT5P & GT PSP within this time period.

200 out of 1,000 doesn't sound any better than 8 out of 10.

gtracedriver, Clearly you're too beguiled by GT to consider conceptual similarities and unable to put the class-leading graphics argument aside.

Ivorbiggun, whilst GT5 has that, in a similar way to how T10 cut corners to implement features into their development time, PD have had to do the same, so not all tracks have weather or dynamic weather or day/night cycles. Again, ways in which both are compromised products, regardless of the quality of the finished products.

I just think the frustration comes from the years and years of development with this game, and the expectations that come along with it.

I can live without the things that people here are complaining about, but that doesn't mean they aren't valid complaints considering certain factors. And I don't think you get very far by just calling people ignorant.

8/10 is actually correct given only 200 from 1000 are premium.. that leaves 800 from 1000 .. wel ldid when i was at school anyways.

and the nitpicking is worthy... and you would maybe understand more if you have played GT from the start.. which you clearly havent.

So, now we have confimation that the standards cars lack the visual customisation options that the premiums have? Funny, I think some of us expected this already months ago...

No im just delighted that GT5 will have all the features that have been requested for many yrs on Forza.net.

At the end of the day im a fan of racing games which is why i've probably spent triple the time playing Forza compared to you. However I don't show any loyalty to any game and just want to play the best racing game there is. Based on what I have seen and read this will be GT5.

Looking at your username its pretty clear what your motives are for posting on here.

Oh, that was a foolish thing to write; it makes you look the moron!

-----------------------------------

I personally think this thread has a valid role to play still, but I hate the cycle of people coming in here and dragging up old conversations and having to be assuaged and then those who do so are having to concede that, yes, it's a disappointment to most who expected more and that everybody has different expectations and relative tolerances of various missing details and blah blah yadda ... :yuck:

I want to learn more about the differences, not retrace the same tired arguments. The latest videos change little to that effect, especially given the extremism (in both directions) that has taken place in this thread.
For months I've been apprehensive about these features, and yet the argument is still about the same thing - how PD have spent their time, and how GT compares to Forza. Frankly, that's a fruitless exercise; instead, ask yourselves this:

What else has been compromised for the Standard / Premium split?

The problem with all this, is that people had so much hope for gt5, personly i became very disapointed since 98% of the cars i perfer in game are standard one = no cockpit, limited customization etc. Im the one that likes regular and semi sport cars and then tune and mod em in a inpressing way for online cruise/race. That isnt posible in gt5. Why didnt PD made toyota supra mkiv as a premium for example? its a very epic streetcar in real life to.

this was never suggested by PD...

in all honesty i have seen posts stating.. standard cars will be just as customisebale as premium cars...

i cant be arsed to sift through this forum looking.. but it will be there...

dont you think that is a little misleading now we know the truth ???.. thats more what im annoyed at.. the misleading way in which PD and sony have sold this game.

and the fact we STILL dont have a release date..even though we have proof the game is in the stores... its just completely backwardand unprofessional.

I'd be surprised if you have tripled my hours, because unlike yourself, I'm still playing it and over 500 hours clocked in the game.

And I was sceptical about GT5 because of things like; I didn't like GT4's physics and I don't yet own a PS3 to try GT5P; Being a fan of photomode in racing games, I wasn't too pleased to see GT4 carry overs, which I have nearly 4,000 shots of; the lack of personalization on cars in the way I enjoyed FM after being a big GT fan from day one.

And to be fair, if I was a troll, I don't think I would have lasted this long.

Don't misunderstand me, I understand your disappointment. It's just that after learning about the standard/premium thing, a few of us here were expecting something like this. So it doesn't come as a big shock to me anymore. :indiff:

And I don't think you get very far by just calling people ignorant.

But thats exactly what they are being. If you read back to some of the comments they think all PD had to concentrate on is the interiors on all the cars. They completely forget about the length of time PD spent modelling the tracks or getting the physics engine right. Not forgetting the different types of racing i.e Go Karts, Nascar, WRC, F1 etc.

Im sorry if my tone is harsh but thats the way I am. Im the sort of person that will say "yes your bum does look big in that dress" to my girlfriend.
