Being spoiled is now apparently expecting some kind of progress for these cars in the 6+ years since we first got them?

Yes, we don't know the full quallity of them yet as we have not played the game. Plus you need to take into account everything else they have done to make this game the best it can be, they cant make 1000 premium cars AND do great weather effects, AND great damage AND racing mods AND new tracks AND a new rally mode and quite honestly if any of those features didnt make it you would be complaining about that also.

At least all the cars have reverse lights:dunce:

Put it this way: I'd rather GT5 had 200-250 premiums without the 800 standards. I'm not denying that GT5's premium car interiors will be to an even higher standard than Forza's but for me, Forza's interiors were plenty impressive enough. These standard cars are what has disappointed me the most.
Well, agreed on prefereing GT5 without the standards, for the sake of constancy. However, I think GT5's premiums are way more impressive than Forza's cars.
Shouldn't this thread be closed? It's basically the EMO thread Part II. If everyone's bitching it may as well all go in one thread. And all this from people that haven't played the game or seen it on their own tvs.
Going by that standard, there shouldn't be a single comment about the game, anywhere. Neither positive, nor negative.

Again, you dont know that. And so what? It was good enough in every other game. But its HD this time.
Because it was good enough back in 2006, it's good enough now?

Well, to hell with HD, headtracking and 3D then, GT4 is good enough as is!

No, going by that standard people shouldn't be talking about how ugly the standard cars look until they can, you know, actually see it. Everyone saw some jaggies on one wheel-well of one standard car in one grainy video and just assume all standards look like crap. No one here has actually seen the standards on their own tv yet. I'm not saying people need to be blind, but they should keep an open mind and wait 'til they have the game to proclaim the standard cars are nothing more than mildly re-skinned GT4 cars.

Cars being un moddable. Modifications havnt been in the series at all save for a rear wing.
And we're talking about two different things.

I mean unmoddable as in you can't do ANYTHING to them (As in engine, suspension, etc...).

If we can't change the wheels, I don't think it's an off-the-wall guess that we may very well not be able to do anything to the Standard cars, just as we couldn't in GT PSP.

Reduced graphics and no cockpit view I am totally fine with on the standard cars. It doesnt bother me at all TBH.

I find it amazing I feel this way becasue It's such a radicaly different view to many people furious at the standard cars and wanting to avoid them altogether simply becasue of graphics and cockpit view.

But what does really annoy me is not having all the custimizations of the premium cars. That I really care about.
No rim changing, especially since they are one of the simplest to change is not good news for bodykits and other custom parts.

I don't need to take into account all the other things; this thread's about the two tiers. Since we're being honest though; weather's inclusion wasn't very pressing for me, personally. Also, like you said, we don't know the quality yet, so I don't know if it's "great" weather effects or very similar to Tsukuba Wet with some atmospheric rain added. "Great" damage is open for debate too. Racing mods have been one of my biggest personal requests so yes, I'm very happy they're back... again, depending on how fully they're integrated. Rally Mode seems very, very similar to me, though if we get randomly-generated tracks with a co-driver, then yeah, that is seriously cool.

Again, you dont know that. And so what? It was good enough in every other game. But its HD this time.

"Good enough in every other game" is such a cop-out. It's awesome that simply meeting the levels of previous games is enough for you. As an example, if GT5 shipped without an online mode it'd (quite rightly) be trashed by a lot of reviews. Why? Because it's an expected feature in 2010. It's not unreasonable to expect progress, especially for a game in development for a half-decade.

Dont use them then, miss out on 3/4s of the game because your being a spoilt child.

God Almighty, how am I being spoilt by saying I want LESS of something, rather than MORE? I'm saying I would have been happier with less content but excellent quality consistently all the way through and I'm labelled as 'spoilt?'

It's unlikely my comment will actually be read with so much traffic here, so I'll just post this and leave.

I'm not very offended about not being able to change wheels on Standard cars. I don't make a habit of changing wheels (at least in GT4) unless it's for specific tire/tyre types. I at least want to know where my other styles of wheels are. I'd rather strap on some racing rubber and have some great wheels to go with them. I don't think I'll be too offended about not being able to change wheels on Standard cars.

If I have screwed something up something on this post, set me straight without attacking me or talking about me in a way suggesting I have mental problems.

Except we're not just going by that 1 poor quality video, remember months ago there was a video released showing standards,
Oh wait, here it is:

WOW, these cars show the same flaws that have recently come back to light, but when this was released we were all(as usual) told we were wrong, standards won't have those problems, they'll look better in the final game,etc,etc...

No assumptions here. Keep in mind this is a direct source video from PD/Sony themselves and is viewable in high-quality, a bigger TV wont make the flaws any less noticeable, you'll quickly find out the opposite is true.

So I can't drive in cockpit view with the standard cars or can I? The cars in Prologue were standard ones right and they had cockpit view.

The cars in GT5P were early premiums, not standards.

NO cockpit view in standards.:ill:

Standards are cars ported(with a small bit of polish, and some features removed) from GT4/GTPSP.

I have a quick question. I know that all of the cars from GT4 will be in the game as standards, but will they be from a newer year? For example, the Chrysler Crossfire was from 2004 in GT4, so will it still be from 2004?

No i don't believe so, all standards have been ported from GT4 and GTPSP so no doubt the names and years would not have changed :)

It will still be the same model, same year, unfortunately.

They may have added newer versions as premiums but we don't have a complete car list yet.

EDIT: beaten to the punch.

Thanks for quick reply but not what I was hoping to read :ill: just wow no cockpit view on most of the cars. Thats just hit and miss, its totally gonna throw me off form having to keep changing views per events depending on the car I have. I'd love to see how this is implemented in the game, I guess its just gonna skip couple less viewing angles when toggling through the views when driving standard cars, I just know my fam and friends are gonna ask me "hu why can't I go in the cockpit view on this car". I was planning on buying a wheel to but but I don't think I'll bother now because using a wheel when not in a cockpit view doesn't appeal to me.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I would still invest in a wheel though, as it can only add to the experience, at least for the premiums anyway.

EDIT: Mmmm, I wonder what kind of numbers of people will only find out about this after paying for the game. Won't be easy to digest for many I would guess.

That's exactly what i am thinking. ALOT of people i think are going to be disappointed as all they have seen promotional wise is Premiums and massively detailed cockpits. It's gonna be a punch in the stomach when they see the standards and realise there is no cockpit view.
Sony and PD should have definitely promoted the standards more and at least got the word out more than just having some small text on their website :ill:

I can't readily think of any car in GT4's line-up that hasn't been replaced yet.

Replaced by what? Replaced with a premium? Or do you mean in teh real world? I don't think any car in GT4 can still be bought new in teh same configuration as it was 6 years ago, well, maybe in Mexico.
