I already have dissapointed face... first with the standard cars, then the track list...

It's like that dinner of dog poo sandwiches... but I really want that little bit in the middle that is still a delicious cheeseburger... just dissapointed about all the dog poo I gotta wade through for a chance at it :(

That reminds me, I gotta let my dog out before I go to bed.

Standard cars are not "dog poo" just because they arent premium. And you dont have to play with the standard cars if you dont want to.

You better or you might end up with actual dog poo sandwiches!

It was in reference to an analogy a few pages back about standards being dog poo... I agree they aren't quite that bad, but I am still not sure you don't have to play a standard at some point to finish the career.

And so what if you do actually have to drive a few standard cars to finish career? Are people seriously that stubborn and stuck up that they can't just switch to bumper cam and do a few races with them to complete whatever needs to be done? Some people act as if they will contract the HIV virus if they use one.

No, it just means the common party line of "whatever you don't have to play with them if you don't want to" doesn't really work is all.

There's a difference between snapping the disc in half because you found out you needed to use the Standards in the game and arguing that the "Don't like 'em don't use 'em" defense has no merit if you actually do have to use them.

For example (time for another Sonic fanbase analogy!), when I first played the absolute pile of garbage known as Sonic 4, when I found out that I had to use the homing attack to get past certain sections in the game, I didn't take my cousin's PS3 (because I certainly wasn't going to buy it) and throw it out of my 3rd story bedroom window. But I did intensely say that the previous go-to defense of "you don't have to use it if you don't like it" held no weight.

I'd be quite surprised if this ended up being the case.

Actually, you'll have to use Standards if you want to progress far; the truck series is back, and there are no new Premium trucks.

It's funny, that comment Kaz made about how their primary goal was to satisfy the devoted gt fanbase... the more I look at the choices they made, the more that seems like total hooey...

Everything so far is pointed at one of two things:

1 Bullet points for the mass market

2 Leaving stuff out for later potential money grab

Wow. You're full of hooey. I'm starting to think you really are an Xbot and a purposeful troll. The MAJORITY of the fan-base is excited. We're just not being as loud and obnoxious as the unsatisfied ones. It's all new members and a SELECT few old members that just keep posting OVER and OVER again, making it look like no one is happy. When in reality it is no more than a handful when you look at the full fan-base.

That's why I said devoted fan base... I forget his exact words, but it sounded like he was saying "our main goal is to make the hardcore fans happy" when really the only ones who would notice the shortcomings are the hardcore... the mass market fans will be hard pressed to see past 1000 cars and weather.

BTW there is no shortage of unhappiness on both the car and track front... just look at the major forums out there, even the minor ones all have a pretty strong level of dissapointment going on...

Is that what you see? I see Nissan paid lots of mony, so did Suzuki, Mazda and Mercedes with the SLS, paid for a lovely blu ray informercial/ 3d car commercial. Honestly, I feel WE the GT hardcore fanbase got sold out. Since GT1 I've never been dissapointed with a GT.. now, I have to find a diamond in the rough..

I see what you are saying...

GT5..has become a full on marketing tool.. EVEN with My Chemical Romance doing the intro. Proves that point. EVERYTHING to.. The highest bidder. Manufactures were probably told, you want your premium? Cough up more cash. Its common knowledge that in the old days, PD went to car manufacturers, now they beg PD to have them in. It makes sense. MCR wanted to launch an album? Well, lets just pay to have it in GT5 !

Overall I have thought for quite a while that KY is pressing GT to be more of a franchise than just a game title... so it would make sense if they are doing that then they will start to focus on profits from all angles. Which of course means the game customer will no longer be the only (or possibly even biggest) income source tied to GT.

Actually, he's really not far off. My home board is almost unanimously disappointed; the half that do have PS3's are contemplating buying, only a few of us know it's a sure thing. When news broke of the lists on Jalopnik there was a fair amount of unhappiness. And around here? I've seen far more disappointment about the track list than satisfaction. So what if it's all new members... I'm sure a few of them joined just to voice this displeasure.

The car list is a bit harder to judge. I've witnessed members learn what we've all known for months and become disappointed; whether or not it was reasonable to expect all Premiums (it wasn't), it does tell you something that only fans of the game know about the two tier system, or more specifically, know exactly what it entails gameplay-wise. I do imagine a lot of people (you know, the casual gamers who make up a large portion of sales) won't realize these things until they play the game. I'm not going to be so pessimistic to think they'll all hate it because of it; that'd be silly. But there will surely be some who do find it very strange, especially those coming from other games that, despite flaws, at least don't have such a two-tiered system implemented.

As much as I hate to admit it, sales make or break a game's success, and it'll be interesting to see how GT5 fairs. Kilzone's right; it's very much a marketing tool now (though a good chunk of that rep is deserved). It almost certainly won't be the highest-rated GT game, and it probably won't be the highest-selling either.

So, because GT5 is an "automotive museum" (according to Kaz), we have to put up with crap like the Suzuki Cappuccino taking up valuable space. And don't give me any of that "not everybody likes only exotic cars" rubbish, because nobody, nobody who has any interest in driving or gaming, ever wants to use these repulsive cars instead of a good performance car. Even if they do, they should shut up until all important sports cars are properly created. Crap-mobiles are second priority in a racing game. I don't mind if they are cars that brought something to the automotive world, but most are just pointless.

Now, I ask, if GT is supposed to be an automotive museum, why have so many properly important/significant cars been left neglected as Standard or exlcuded altogether? Just go look up automotive firsts on WikiPedia, and look at some of the Brands/Models that have been left out. Why do we instead get 51 versions of a car which did nigh on nothing for the automotive world? So much for a museum.

"But it will still be the bestest racing game everrr!" wail the fanboys. Why, pray tell? Physics? Sorry, but PC sims will always chew up GT for breakfast, then spit it out and mop it up. A half-arsed Course Maker, weather on select tracks, go karting, a bunch of online features? Sorry, but once you screw up the car list in a car game, there's nothing that can redeem it.

GT5 is now more of an awkward piece of software that doesn't know whether it wants to be an Arcade racer or a Sim. In my books, this game went from a Pre-order, slipped to a day 1 purchase, now to a "play-at-friends-house" before I buy.

PC sims ? I d like to see a new Grand Prix Legend (loooooved that game).

the cars list is not screwed up... it is fair enough
we can still do a lil derby with F430 scuderia, Lexus LFA, Audi R8 V10 (well, tough luck xD), Viper SRT-10, murcielago super veloce, Mc Laren F1, Zonda R and the SLR.
Nooope i won t put standard cars in there, to me they don t exist, they will be like keyholders to collect and that s it, i have easily motion sickness when i am not in a cockpit view.

Easy win ah! LOL

As long as some of you have been on these forums, you should know better. Only 49% of Gran Turismo is for us. The other 51% is for Kaz. It's his world--we just live in it. Maybe Kaz doesn't really care for Koenigseggs or Veyrons. Obviously he REALLY LOVES Japanese sport compacts. Whatever. It's HIS game. He just invites us to play every 4 or 5 years if we're willing to pay. It's obviously working for him. He's one of the most influential people in the video game industry.

Am I a little pissed that I can't slap on some custom wheels on standard cars? Yes. But I plan on working my way through the premiums to find cars that I love. That's what this game is. It's 200+ highly details cars and 800 freebies.

You all know damn well if it was "only" 200 premium cars and no standards, you'd still buy the game.

PS. On a side note, I keep hearing people talk about DLC. Is that confirmed?

Imagine if Kaz tought about not putting standard cars and put in 100/200 more premium and newer/iconic cars... 400 premium superduper cars

Question, someone wrote somewhere on these forums that you cant have premium and standard cars in the same race, is this true?
