It's funnyer that someone thought the joke was so good, that they watermarked it LOL

SO has the Veyron been confirmed as standard?

I'd love to know what they were smoking when they selected the cars they would make premium.

Premium cars don't have to be fast. And it's their game, they can do whatever the hell they want. The only loss of standards is the cockpit view, the slightly worse look, and the lack of chamging whels. Big deal

And the lack of quality, if I'm honest. Any idiot could have ported over 800 cars from GT4. It takes a real bunch of arrogant ***** to do this and then charge £40 for the privilege of playing them in HD.

We are lucky to get 200+premiums and 800+ standard in a single game.

Somebody call the waambulance. Apparently, you do not know what it is like to meticulously model 3d vehicles at a high polygon count. It is not as simple as pressing a convert button on the standard models.

I don't care about the outside, whilst GT4 models arn't ideal, they certainly don't look bad in GT5.

I'd rather them be in.
Just a shame to see features removed (wheel change)

So you did it or had you could do them?

Actually, I study Games Design, so I know how models and meshes are made.

And to be honest, it IS as easy as just hitting "convert". If I make a barrel in Maya and save it as an ASCII file and there you have the instructions to make the model.

Simply turn this into something GT5 understands and hey presto, you have your model. Adding the physics to the cars probably isn't that difficult either; PD would be stupid not to have an algorithm that takes data such as spring rates, wheel base, weight, CoG and all the other goodies and turns this into drivable physics.

And I like the hypocrisy here; I know for a fact if Forza 3 came out with 100 cars "premium" and the rest of the 300-odd Forza 2 standard, who'd be pointing the finger? Double standards, my friends.

I think it just smacks of laziness and over-ambition by Kaz and the PD team.

Made this comment in the news section, but...

Why is everybody so caught up in what the standard cars look like when the real question is what the standard cars drive like? Personally, I'm THRILLED to get to drive all of GT4's cars again, but this time with far superior physics

It's "The Real Driving Simulator" not "The Real Car-Viewing Simulator". Not having an in-car view certainly stings, but is it really going to hurt your enjoyment of the game that much?

When I see you're name in the credits of a racing game that's better than GT5, that statement will be relevant. Until then, you're just another kid on a forum who thinks they know better than PD.

Kid? I guess the real kid is the one who can condescend without knowing the facts about another person.
Kiddo :sly:

You aren't gonna see my name in any credits because Games Design doesn't interest me one bit. But don't think it hasn't given me an insight into how lazy PD have been. 200 Premiums in more than 4 years? Even Forza gave us 400 right off the bat. In half the time it took GT5 to finally finish development. Have you got an answer for that, smartarse?

Edit:

Actually, I'll get back to you in the morning, PM me or something. Night ;)

The idea that someone must create something better than GT to even criticize it is ridiculous. I haven't made a movie but know Transformers 2 was a pile, as just one example. And by your own reasoning, your opinion and all related statements are irrelevant.

This thread can occasionally have interesting, fact-based discussions about the differences between Standards and Premiums (and the pros and cons of both). It's always been a hot topic that has almost been closed up by the mods numerous times because people resort to personal digs instead. It's veering right back into that again... I don't think it's too much to hope people can actually veer back on-course.

(NINJA-EDIT) My attempt to get back into some sort of reasonable discourse, based on Okami's above post: peoples' thoughts on the Standard Model "damage"? Personally, if they were going to go for the hilarious-looking melted plastic look the Range Stormer is sporting, I actually would've rathered no visual damage at all for Standards. Seriously, what happened to scratches and dents?!

Hard to beat that logic, comment removed.

PD was busy making a higher quality game with more features (except for livery, i'll give you that). It's clear from looking at their development between GT4, GT5P and GT5 that they were working their butts off on not just car premium count, but everything to make a better driving experience.

Plus Photo Travel. Plus the Photomode restrictions. Plus a crappy damage engine. Plus hell knows what else. Do keep up.

i am a diehard cockpit kinda guy.........enough said......and off topic am i the only person in gt land that wants a 87-93 5.0 mustang lx ( with trunk lid ) ??????????????????????

This is a fair point, but some, myself included, have higher expectations after waiting roughly 5 years for the game.

I definitely agree with you that the driving experience will be much better and i will still enjoy the standard cars, but i can't help feeling that there could have been more premiums thrown in because lets face it, premiums are better than standards. Whether its the fact that i can't use cockpit view, or notice the difference in graphical quality, or even just feeling shortchanged in general that my preferred vehicle is standard, ultimately it all adds up to affect the users experience. So for me, yeah, it will affect my enjoyment of the game significantly :ouch:

I think it just smacks of laziness (sitting around) and over-ambition (working too hard on something) by Kaz and the PD team.
Someone is confused. ;)

But seriously, some of you guys think GT PSP was simply done by a Convert button, rather than a massive workload dumped on Kaz and the team in the ninth hour of GT5 development. You know, where Kaz admitted that they had to dump GT5 work in the fridge.

I do admit that GT5 has sure run a torturous course through the past five years, but if I don't see some of you guys hanging around here or playing online because GT5 sucks a bit too hard for you, oh well. All I can say is you'll be sorry you're missing out on some excellent racing with physics which have impressed some editors of sim racing pubs.

And if you've been throwing a lot of waterballoons in here, and then get the game and still keep posting, you can look forward to some arm bruises. :D

I'll see most of you guys online when I get comfy with some rides!

O.K at the end of the day this is the best car game ever PERIOD. so what if you can not change the rims of a a 93 civic... you still can change the rims of a 97 type R hatch and a 2008 type R civic... Thats the reason why I'm glad they have so many different duplicates in the game cause if your favorite car is a standard version, chances are you can find a different edition with better rims to begin the game with or maybe even a premium in some cases. Stop all the hate xbots and haters who just love to hate... you don't like GT5 then find a game that best suites what you think a good car game should have... I have owned GT1, GT2, GT3(which sucked) gt4, forza 1 and 2 and all the NFS games and this by far is better then any racing tittle out there... If you are a true car enthusiast then you know this is the best that you can get by far..... thank you very much (1032 cars with top notch physics may i say more?)

You mean a massive workload chosen by Kaz to be worked on during GT5 development. If PD was seriously bitten by the development of GTPSP, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Also, I'm having a hard time believing that GTPSP was that difficult in the first place, considering developers have been making PSP ports of PS2 games since the handheld launched, and that is essentially what GTPSP was (albeit heavily decontented from the PS2 source materials).

No you're not. But they'd probably model the '93 Cobra R...5-lugs & PBRs you know?

And like you, I prefer cockpit view. The standing-on-top-of-the-car-view will probably make me carsick.

I'm glad I didn't give a turd about GT PSP. What a waste of time that is.

It was actually pretty handy, at least in the sense it gives a better idea of GT5's physics engine than Prologue does. Remember how people were amazed at the news that in GT5, if you've had an off in the grass, the next few turns your car won't be gripping at 100% until the tires are "clean"? Yep, it happens in PSP. Plus, I'll have very nearly all of the recycled cars at my disposal in Arcade Mode if I'm so inclined. It's a decent time waster if you ride the subway/bus/train or what have you, too 👍

Nope, but I want the hatch.:sly: That was the first car I looked for in the car list.:)

As I see it the standards are a extra 811 cars to play with. Plus since GT4's physics wasn't something great its basically like driving these cars for the first time. I look at my GT4 garage and I have 178 out of the full list. Now we have over a 1000 and all of these awesome features so why complain? Play the game and enjoy the awesome called GT5.

Haters gonna hate my standards.

We haven't seen enough of the standard damage yet. Just a Land Rover with a deformed front end.
