Just for factual reasons and not to add any more fire, the bottom image of the Veyron is an in-game shot of the player's car during a replay, where one of the lower LoDs is used, along with 30fps playback.

Scaff, if this is beyond the warning you have given, I apologise and accept any infraction I receive.

To the person complaining about the standards not "looking good" you wont be able to get that much detail when you are racing, and in photomode, you can touch them up in PhotoShop e.g ( and i'm not that brilliant at PhotoShop.) I also re did the shadow on the right side of the wing, will take requests if anybody has them.

You know what's really strange... when you run GT4 on an emulator and crank up the resolution the cars don't look half bad...

Somehow the cars look worse in GT4 than they do just upscaled in an emulator?

Any chance you could replicate the Green Wing picture i got from earlier on in the thread ( its in my comment above yours) in the GT4 Emulator to see how it looks ?

I just stole that picture from the interwebs... I haven't had a PS2 emulator running in a long time... might be able to scrounge one up somewhere but I didn't see one right off...

Wow, that did indeed look bettter (to me) than a lot of the standard cars. Well, except of the lighting engine, that is.

...there is a reason why they are called "premiums" and "standards". And if you dont want to play with the standards, then dont. There are many people who will enjoy the 1000 cars.

Okay, Toronado, while your reply to the above has merit ("Has not, and never will be, a valid rebuttal for this issue."), so does gaming25's statement. Like it or not, the people who care enough about the details of the game to post here (or even read here) are in the great minority of those who will buy the game. MOST gamers are not that hardcore, and for them the 1000 cars will be just that (WOW, 1000 CARS!!!). So while we're especially "noisy" here, that vast amount of money speaks volumes. That said, personally I'm sticking to the Premiums.

...having a perfect vision is one thing, knowing how to consistently, coherently and efficiently materialize it may not be his strong suit...

Well said! As I stated above, most people don't care as much about the details, so much of the great care and nerdy goodness we love comes down to Kaz's own passion and personal interests. We've seen similar results come from game designer, Peter Molyneux (Populous, Black & White, Fable). He also has grand visions, but perhaps is not the most practical-minded. That's one reason I don't like seeing these kind of developers being given free reign; not only can spending get out of hand, but practical focus can get lost.

Seriously anyone who ignores me on this will be getting a 10 point infraction.

Hey, I didn't know we were on a point system. Can I get a million bonus points for not mentioning either company? ;)

I'm not particularly bothered. I've been replaying GT3 recently (GT4 disc got snapped accidently), and I'm fine with the car models in that. It's just nice to be able to have the cars available to drive at all, let alone to be able to drive them with the addition of GT5 physics.

Man this thread is close to 500 pages. Can someone point me to pictures with standard cars? Is it as bad as left pic pk3r72owns posted?

Well with jaggies like that I can understand why PD only allow photo captures of standard cars in a race and not in photo mode :)

I am in 100% agreement. I have recently been playing Prologue and GT4 again just to get ready for GT5. The only reason I have been commenting on this topic is because it does have a certain why did they do that kinda vibe to it:) In GT4 we were allowed to take photo's of any car, but I can understand the somewhat limited photo possibilities with some of the cars in GT5 since they are not all Premium cars.

That is a picture of a standard car.

There are some that look better and some that look as bad or worse (there is a miata one floating around that is questionably bad to the point it's almost certainly some combination of maximum zoom and odd angle).

Heres a couple of pics of my standard mazda. Im a bit dissapointed with some of the standard cars to be honest!! (but some dont actually look that bad)

If most of the standard cars look like that I will be happy :)

I have read several post that say some of the standard cars don't look as good as others, so it could be just how they were updated :) Thanks for the picks that 3rd one from the top looks great!!!!

Today I got my copy of GT. And the first thing I have recognized is the bad texture quality from standard cars,:guilty:

this is really quite bad, especially for a 2010 game, i just feel with very little effort PD could have made these cars look so much better, i could even rework some textures for them, free of charge !!

Yeah, I hadn't seen GT4 like that before and it looks pretty good. The only problems that I would really expect to be visible are textures will look blurred in close up and curved surfaces (the far away front wheel arch for example) are made of straight lines and where textures are used instead of 3d geometry on things like grills. I tend to think PD would re-work the textures and possibly round off some of the surfaces that are supposed to be curved.

EDIT: Heh, after looking at some of those pics maybe they've not done as much.

Hey all, I have been following this forum for a few months now, and I must say, I already adopted it as a family member. This will be my first reply on this forum so please let me know if I am making any mistakes.

I just saw all the videos that e5ridez put on youtube.
His video's answered almost all the questions I still had left for this game.
And not to start a war here, but I am seriously regretting that I already payed 80,- Euro for the Collectors Edition.
I never played another Gran Turismo game before so I am not very familiar with the series. This is due to the fact that I never owned an Sony console before. (I find the PS3 to be awesome in almost every aspect b.t.w.)
I recently bought Prologue to have a quick peek and that game kind of statisfied me, so I was hoping for a lot from the full version.

When I saw the standard cars in e5ridez videos, they looked almost identical to the cars from Forza Motorsport 1 on XboX, which I still play sometimes.
Please don't hate me for it.

Now this is not a very big problem to me, especially since they handle via the same physics engine. The thing that does make me wonder if PD is digging his own grave here is that I get the feeling that you only get 1/5th of the functionality.

In my case for example, the only cars I find interesting from the whole car list are all standards, this is no problemo, but..... I cannot takes this in photo mode.... and I am seriously wondering why.... because this shows to clearly how bad the standards look? Or what? Then there is that I can't change the rims, most standard rims look dreadfully awful, but this is personal taste. Still I can't think of any reasonable explanation why we can't change them. So I am asking you guys, was this possible in GT4? Or couldn't you change them in that game too? Just wondering....
Then there is the problem that you cannot use a lot of tuning and upgrading options on the standards, this is what hurts me the most since I will probably only drive with standards, so this means that I cannot use 4/5th of the game to me....

No, what actually hurts me more is the cockpit viewless standards. I don't care how ugly or unreal they look, just like e5ridez said in his videos, why cant they just blacken it out so we can still play from the right perspective.
I was so used to the cockpit view from Prologue and loved it ever since. But now I now this I am already trying to get used to bumper cam, even if this seems like BS to me.
Even GT PSP had interiors, blackened out, but still, you could drive from the right perspective, and I still hope they will patch/DLC this for us.

Then there is another thing I find very awkward.... why is the dynamic weather and day night cycle available only on certain tracks.... I would presume this is just a type of script.... Is there some sort of weird bug on some tracks? Is That why

Another thing for the day/night cycle is.... can you still use a standard car in this type of situation? Since you cannot do anything with the headlights on the standard cars, will you still be able to use them in the night races, since I suspect that they will be a license test of some sort.

The overall graphics of GT5 tend to look very outdated in my opinion, I think this is mostly because of all the delays. Especially when you look at the environments, that looks even worse than most mediocre race games of today. I don't find this to be a problem for a simulator, but since they/everybody is bragging about the graphics, I think I can bash this.

I'm also wondering if everybody is very excited for the 3d and head tracking function.
I really think they could have invested this time in other parts of the whole development.

That the 1000 cars are actually 200 usable and that even these 200 have a lot of replica's and that the track list is nothing special (I think I am actually one of the few that hates Nurnburgring and does not want to drive that track in any race game, I really don't like anything about it.) are things I don't even want to think about.

I really get the feeling that with the standards not in photo mode stuff they where not trying to fix problems, but just making more limitation so people cannot notice a lot of flaws, why there isn't an option for the day/night and weather so it can be used on all tracks still beats me but I have a distinct feeling that this will be fixed with a patch/DLC later on.

Sorry for me I already paid the 80,- bucks and the product is already dispatched to me and will be on my doorstep tomorrow morning :(

The only thing I am still having good hopes for is the 300 page thick Apex book I will be getting with my CE edition, I hope I can cherish it like a bible. For the rest, I will give it a clean and objective go when I have time later on this week, but some things just can't give my mind a rest. I really had high expectations of all this :(

Please don't hate on me, this is my objective look at the game.
I haven't played a GT before except prologue for a couple of weeks now.
Which I still be playing so I can see replays of my 1v1 races with friends.
(sucks that the demo/prologue could do this and the full version can't)

The question is: why don't the standard cars look like GT4 Photo Mode cars?

They obviously have all the data they need. And we all know what the cars looked like in GT4's Photo Mode.

But this
lagunasecaraceway.jpg

does not equal this

IMG0019.jpg

In my opinion, they could at least run 25-30 standard cars on track with GT4 Photo Mode graphics. But it seems like PD didn't put enough effort in to make this work.

Yes I'm sad aboout this...Why...? After six years of development??
I know. But not all standard cars look this bad, I just can't understand why.

It looks like the tires have been updated, they look good, and some details of the cars are very sharp (like the chrome logo's). But then other things are very edgy or blurry. Why?

Looking at some of the in-game pictures of Standard cars (which mostly look much worse than even I expected, since my main argument against them was the lack of features like cockpit view and damage but the graphics...oh dear) I got a bit of a LEGO-vibe, maybe Kaz got inspired by another Playstation title......;)

Now all of a sudden people are changing their tune, and being the best looking is no longer important? Amazing.

I am glad I didn't hype myself up for that. I am just looking forward to PLAYING the game, not counting pixels.

Actually, there's very little about GT5 that seems to be important.

Cockpit view? For crappy racers.
Damage? For crash kids.
Graphics? For graphic whores.
Customisation? For ricers.

You get the idea :sly:

You are right, but I collected today 13 standard cars and 70% of them are looking like the 3 pictures I uploaded.

Sorry for my english

So which car is makes up the .1 cars? ;)

Seriously though, makes you wonder if there is some confirmation bias and the earlier round of pictures we got was largely from people picking the best looking cars anyway thus naturally better looking photos of them...
