Except it's not improved. GT4, as dave_sz said nicely, had to paralyze the models for them to work with the PS2. Now that they have the PS3's power to work, they can run them the way they originally wanted them to. The only thing they have improved is for the cars to look better with the lighting & what not.

The textures & details of the model are still the same as they were in GT4.

As I said before if it is going to be same there is no point in having the same thing after 5yrs. That makes no sense at all. There is no way anyone can come to any conclusion from that standard video(even then, the car looks more sharp in that video). We have to see the latest built or the retail version.

They went into their dev kit, selected all the standard cars and checked the "make pretty with ps3 superpowers and shiny textures" button. Voila, you have standard models.
The standard cars are the original GT4 models which had to be downgraded visually in order to run on the ps2. Technically they are and aren't the same models. They're based on the same base model but the gt4 cars were downscaled while the gt5 cars are shinied up and all that jazz.

Look at the number of cars in gt5p and then at the 170 premium car number quoted for gt5. I'm sure PD spent most of their resources to make as many pretty premium cars as possible.
The standard models are not terrible.

Yeah I am sure the standard model will look great.

Some time back I saw some pics of an old PC game max payne2 with high res texture and other mods and it looks great better in some ways than game like Alan wake on 360 or if you like Heavy rain on PS3

Uh... not sure what Max Payne has to do with this.

The GT4 models do have interiors

 @ GT4's "interiors"

Car models with clear windows and actual modeled interiors/animated drivers have been around since the PS1 days...

I always felt it was lame that GT4 still couldn't do it, but gave it a pass because the car models were still great. But now we have a PS3 game where 80% of the cars still dont have it. Thats funny.

BTW I been playing a little of GTPSP since quite a while and this got me thinking:

when you play GTPSP you got the option to play from black frame view, that is something that we already know,of course each black cockpit has its own shape and perspective, but each black frame cockpit of each car is different from the other and there could be the possibility that actually there is interiors for all cars ,my point here is if they did make black frame for all the cars featured in GTPSP,there is also the possibility that those are actually portraits for the standard cars, since in GTPSP has no black frame rear view, in GT5 prologue we found this, I known what was on the jp site I check that, and yeah I saw the tweet from KY saying black frames are technically possible, because it also could be a advertising campaign, they show first the low standard cars and the in October they reveal that all cars have cockpits, since is technically possible to make black frames is also possible to make full interiors cockpits.

hope that I'm right although I get used to the idea of not having cockpits in the standard cars.

If you are so unhappy with PD decisions and with GT5 just don't buy the game and go play something else... The only thing you do in this forum is complain about the same points and this is getting REALLY annoying.

wonder how many cars were in those games.. Doubt they'd be anywhere near 600/700

I think that is NFS hot pursuit 2 for PS1,they only features like 25 cars, they making a remake but dunno about the newest NFS,they used to be great but lately they get worst and worst.

That pic above is from Need 4 Speed: High Stakes (my fav. NfS), HP2 was for Xbox/PS2/PC.

EDIT: At least I think it is N4S, can't remember that the cars in that pic. were in the game. lol

And before we had a PS2 game where 0% of the cars had it. Stop being so bloody ungrateful.

Me, three. đź‘Ť

 @ people who aren't grateful.

edit- great word choice, Aderrrm. :)

I guess all 3 of you have never, EVER been critical of anything then. Good for you.

One thing is being critical, the other is complain in every topic of the game or 10-20 times about the same thing.. for me it's more like being a hater.

The biggest disappointment for me is that the Lambo Countach is a standard car. I find that weird because that's a new car to the GT Series, and even though they made it first for GT PSP, they should've made a premium version for GT5.

?

The "don't buy it then" defense is weak. People who complain do so precisely because they do care about the game... hell, I have the CE on preorder, which meant ordering off the US website and being hit with insane shipping fees. Doesn't mean I can't voice my displeasure with certain aspects; it just happens that it's so far one aspect of the game, but it is a huge chunk of it.

The problem is that there are tons of people who still deny the facts all the time. This is the first and only thing I really complain about (except for the sound) and now I'm a "hater"?

Sums it up perfectly đź‘Ť

I think even you know that there's a difference between offering constructive criticism, or even griping, and stalking threads to trash any good points they have in them. I think McLaren would admit that I don't stalk Forza fans. Maybe. ;)

If anything I see it happening more with the other side of the argument. Every page we get the general consensus, from both sides, that yes, so far the Standards look like ported-over GT4 models. New lighting, and they look better than GT4 itself, yeah, but they are GT4 models.

Then a page later, we get another "enlightened" individual stating it should be obvious to everyone, despite the argument being well-worn, that they "obviously" aren't GT4 models. That's getting far more tiring than people who are voicing their displeasure at the two-tier system. I've talked to kingcars; we both have the CE preordered. It's not baiting so much as responding to the same (sorted, discussed, generally agreed upon) argument every page.

I know.

I'm going to either race GT4, or write or do music, can't decide right off...

I actually whole-heartedly approve of this thread being locked. We've all gone around in circles and its annoying to either side of the argument.

Maybe unlock it come GamesCom, since we might actually see some more info or improvements on Standards. Right now, an entire stable of horses are lost ;).
