Hire more people for the job to model all of the 800 cars. Maybe at least 500 employers.

It feels kind of like they did... and then used them all to run GT Academy and drive KY around to car shows...

Doesn't it seem an awful lot like a lot of time and money was going to things other than GT? I almost wonder if KY is going EA here... he's got a solid foundation, now he will keep putting cursory work into making it pretty and keeping it selling so he can use it as the cash cow and basis for his other projects....

i believe all the cars are going to look good whether they are premium or not but i think before everybody starts going crazy about interior view we should wait and see what happens at gamescon or tokyo game show, or better yet wait till the game comes out to continue this discussion. either way im just happy that we are having a great number of cars that are going to look and feel great :)

You're kind of new around here so maybe haven't seen it, but the "lets' wait and see if maybe it's better later" has been the mantra around here for years... and it's been a strike out fest.

I just hope PD keeps on making more and more cars premium and handing them over to us as FREE dlc. In another 3 years, before the Playstation 4 is released, with GT6 as a launch title, we may have all cars premium. At least I hope so.

That is never going to happen, never ever ever ever. If people are not happy after the amount of content GT5 has it's best to just not buy the game because you are not going to get free DLC. PD will move onto GT6 after this, no way are there going to waste time adding more cars and tracks to GT5 beyond about a year. The majority are not going to use 100 cars let alone 1000 (pulled that number of the backside) and at the end of the day the mass market is all that matters. Even if everyone crying on the internet did not buy the game PD would lose what? 100k sales, easily made up by new people coming into the franchise thanks to things like Nascar and WRC.

1000 cars, whatever tracks, day/night, Nascar, WRC etc not enough? Tough luck, really invest in a good PC or 360 and play another game with those cockpits. Forza and PC sims are really quite special to say the least.

If the sounds are not upgraded though. :grumpy:

Yes. Coders and modellers on PD have done great job. Management has failed big time in looking what are the resources and what they are doing. If KY finds out after 5 years that models are too accurate and time is runnig out, something should have been done like 3 years agot fix the problem.

Why not release GT5 with premium cars only and add new premium cars as DLC?
Its the first GT on a new plattform, with a completely new engine and many other new features, that 200 cars whould be ok. It would feel like its GT3 all over again, but Iam fine with it. Releasing a game with 20% good cars and 80% ugly ones does not feel right.
T10 reused most of their Forza 1+2 cars, but at least they all got cockpitview.

It just feels wrong to see cars like these in 1080p:

Edit: At least they look decent in motion.

Horrible, just plain horrible. :nervous::guilty:

I don't think it's that big a deal. I've seen a video of the standard cars and they don't look that much worse. In fact, they look pretty good, in my opinion. At least they kept in the 800 standard cars instead of just having the Premium cars and cutting out the rest.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of interior view.
Funny how people contradict themsevels by saying they don't think it's a big deal, at least they kept the 800 standard cars... Yet, you are disappointed about the lack of interior view, which is directly related to the fact that those 800 cars were included

They would have been better off ditching those 800 standard models and instead just focusing on 300 or 400 really good premium models, because even at that relatively low number, 99% of owners would never excperiece each and every one anyway.

Actually 300/400 cars is not a low number.
I suppose PD had to get the magic 1000 figure anyway they could.

350 premium cars of th right choice ie no clones and not all supercars, I would be more than happy with.
IMHO.

Answer to all of everyones questions: You guys won't drive/race/collect all of the 1000 cars in GT5 that has two classes.

1 - Premium
2 - Standard

End of story. Good day. :)

The worst about this is that we have been fooled for so long. I can´t believe that a Big and established developer as Poliphony could do such a bad PR job.

I don't know mates, but this idea of spliting the cars into two "tiers", based on detail and accuracy, for me its a big shipment of FAIL.

i'm so disappointed with all this.

In GT4 I owned 460+ cars and on GT PSP I just bought my 367th car and most of them will not be considered Premium in GT5. I know many people will not play the game long enough to collect more than 200 cars, but out of the 200 cars Iam interested in 20 or something.

Sure they may have most of their supercars modelled as premium cars, but iam more interested in the reasonably priced cars (from Europe), the early musclecars, european cars from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, Group B Rallycars and especially the Audi Quattro and Audi S4 98'. All of those cars will be standard!

So I might be kind of a exception here, but I prefer a DMC DeLorean to a Ferrari Enzo any day, or an Audi Quattro to any Lamborghini. I even prefer the Group B Rallycars (Lancia S4 especially) to every Nascar racer in the game!

But I will definately buy the game day one, though Iam disappointed not to see my favourite cars modelled with as much care as the Daihatsu Copen Active Top...
I think it would be better not to release GT5 with all the standard cars, but instead with 350 premium cars. Just save the work it takes to convert a GT4 car to GT5 and model some more premium rides! I know I might not be getting my favourite cars that way, but it would feel better overall.

Its hard to explain, because Iam no english native speaker.

Edit: At least those premium cars are a solid foundation to GT6.

I don't think it was a feasible option to begin with; sure I hoped that all cars would be the same standard and that they all have a cockpit view. Things aren't that simple though. I for one am not bothered by this news at all. The way I see it is as follows:

The standard cars look awesome; lots a detail and great reflections. Combine that with dirt and scratches and it will look realistic and great. I see no fault with the standard models (dare I say they look more authentic than many other cars in games) and I will drive them lovingly. Since PD did not mention a separate physics engine for either group of cars - if that were the case THAN I could understand all the criticism - I am sure they will utilize their new engine and apply that to the standard cars. So the driving pleasure will be there. Honestly I can't understand why people are being so negative; PD could have used JUST the premium cars...but now we're getting so much more. Add to this the tuning and customization and perhaps one can start to appreciate the grand scope of things.

The premium cars look incredible and one can see the effort: mind-boggling!
There are OVER 200 cars; that's right, it could be 220, 230 or maybe 240; who knows. That is an insane number folks, with that much detail. GT1 entertained me for years and it did not have a wide selection; so did GT3. Were these the worst installments? Far from it.

It is time to use logical thinking and look at the facts; we're getting a awesome product which will keep the true car enthusiast entertained for years to come. Hopefully rain, day-night transition, rally, NASCAR, WRC SuperGT, Oldtimers, Muscle cars, Formula one, real race tracks, Photo-mode, GT-TV, video-upload, car history...the list goes on and on. Try to keep that in mind.

When life presents you with something you don't like or are opposed to; you have two options:

1: acknowledge the problem; criticize it, not accepting the fact that you have no control over it.
2: acknowledge the problem, try to solve it, if not possible make the best out of it.

You can apply that ethos to anything in life, and as a Law student I can say that people tend to forget what is efficient and chose the worst route possible; use your ratio - reason - and deal with it; don't linger and moan just because you believe there is no other option.

"So the driving pleasure will be there."

Yes you are right, the new physics engine will make us love driving standard cars, such as Lancia Stratos, Audi S4 etc...
but, I think that the driving pleasure (the one you feel with a good wheel) would be halved down because of no cockpit view.

No cockpit view ----> 50% driving pleasure

hood cam is good for... rally cars? maybe...
using the bumper cam is maybe good to see the track clearly... but there's no realism in it.

I can see where you're coming from and I respect your view and I certainly believe you have a point. However, using the bumper cam - for me at least - provides me with equal pleasure: great sense of speed, awesome look at the track. Yes, realism is lacking somewhat, but then again I factor in the awesome physics and the great replays and it doesn't seem that bad, or rather, it seems like and incredible experience!

Really, I understand the issue; but there's not much we can change and if you look at it objectively PD had three options:

1: only use the standard cars
2: only use the premium cars
3: use both standard and premium cars

Simple because of the time constraints and difficulty in creating the premium cars. I think we're getting the best of both world...think about it.

This might be the wrong topic but I keep seeing people saying the standard cars are GT4 cars just with more polygons.

They will obviously look better than they did in GT4 then, won't they? So what is it that makes them GT4 cars? Starting off from an already made model seems like the best option for me, I bet it saves loads of hours in modelling the same car again rather than just improve the existing one.

I also wonder where it has been said they are upscaled GT4 models, or is this just something all negative *put bad word here* has made up to make them seem worse than they are?

Personally I think they look great and cockpit view is incredibly overrated so I couldnt care less about this. But I do think it is sad that tis forum is overflowing with negative people. :(

In previous GT games I used to play in 3rd person view behind the car, because while driving I wanted to know which car I was actually driving (and because fanatec Speedster wouldnt work with GT4). Sure you can feel the difference, but there is more to the experience of driving a car, than just the physics and the competition on the track. The looks of a car are a factor aswell!

When GT5 Prologue introduced the cockpits I was happy, because I could drive the cars from a realistic point of view, that was fun to race and on the other hand showing me which car I was driving. Every car is unique and the dashboard is part of the experience. Without it (bumper cam) it could basicly be every car, though its handling might be different. I bought my G25 just for GT5 and driving in cockpit view!

Iam not quite sure what to do when GT5 is released:
1. Drive Premium cars only, with the wheel and pro physics in cockpit view (like GT5P and the Time Trial Demo)
2. Drive both and only use 3rd person perspective and a controller with standard physics (like GT4 and GTPSP)

All in all it feels like GT 4.5 HD or GTHD+.
I know there are a lot of other features, but its not the evolution I was hoping for. Back in 2007 I said that I don't want damage to be included. If it means to sacrifice damage, day and night and online to get all cars premium, I would do that!

I might think differnt about all that in a few weeks, but right now Iam disappointed. The most important thing about GT to me was the cars! now it seems the most important thing about GT is the features!

I understand your point of view; hopefully you'll lose that feeling of disappointment and celebrate the great side of GT5.

I too like to see the car I'm in and I used to play from the third perspective. When GT5P hit I used the in-car cam always. With GTPSP I used the bumper. And for admiring the car, I know I will be watching a lot of replays and I can sit back and enjoy the car. When racing I will enjoy the tarmac :)

Read my post a few posts back; hopefully that will soothe your worries a little and put things in perspective!

:( unfortunately it's an old article... :(
polyphony always changes things during the development....
:( :(

They had promised 1000 cars from the very beginning (think 2007, when Prologue was first released). I'm still confident we will receive 1000 cars with fully modelled dashboards. Polyphony don't cut corners.

Anything being outputed in 1080P has to be modeled to look good.

Unless you have a 1080P HD TV you won't be able to see the best rendering anyway.

Look at this part of an article from the Official PlayStation Magazine:

You do know that the OFFICIAL in the name has nothing to do with credibility, it's just a name, right? The magazine has no affiliation with sony or the PS division. They just paid for the name.
Either way, we didn't know anything about these standard cars for the past couple of years, neither did the press. They just put in cockpit for all cars because that's what we all have been lead to think.

I'm more worried about the car list overall than this. There's still a few high-profile cars I've yet to see from confirmed manufacturers.

I rather wanted 200 premium cars, than 1000 with 800 "half-assed" (sorry for the term).
Why not release GT5 with premium cars only and add new premium cars as DLC?

(Standard LeMans car)

Edit: At least they look decent in motion.
I'm not sure why I'm bothering to mess with this thread, because the incessant and irrational whining is getting thick.

You guys WILL have some supercars in Premium form.

You WILL have some muscle cars in Premium form.

EVERY car class will be represented in the Premium list.

If you don't want to have anything to do with the Standard cars, DON'T MESS WITH THEM.

Problem freaking solved.

This way, the rest of us can enjoy having a huge car list to collect from, race, mod and enjoy. Frankly, I'll be happy with a shedload of tracks ported from past games in Standard form too. I want to race those tracks. I don't want 20 fantastic looking tracks to race into the ground, almost like what happened in Forza 2. I got really tired of revisiting tracks over and over, and sick to death of the Test Course.

And on that subject, Devedander, you're such a Forza tool that I shouldn't be surprised at what you post any more, but you have no room to talk about Gran Turismo after giving the Forza series a fistfull of passes.

Get over it...

Considering the amount of detail we've got on the Premium cars and all the features GT5 comes with, I don't really mind the 800 standard cars. It may be quite irritating if your favourite car happen so be a standard model, but if PD did premium models only, it probably wouldn't have been in the game at all. Getting standard cars beats getting nothing, if you're asking me.

Personally, I'd like to see some DLC after the game has been released. And preferably, PD won't limit themselves to upgrading standard models to premium, though. Just drop a few more premium models over quite some time. If they're working on GT6 which will have models quite on the same level as GT5's premiums, they might as well throw a few of them at us via DLC.

Actually, if it wasn't for Forza, I doubt people would get worked up over GT5 'only' having 200 cars. Because, let's be honest, 200 isn't a small number of cars, is it? Aside from Gran Turismo and Forza, there isn't a single racing game on any given console that sports more cars, or rather, I can't recall one.
So, yeah, there's GT5's 200 cars and another 800 which are added on top of it. If PD's smart about it, they'll manage to keep a steady supply of premium cars throughout the GT Life mode. If you don't have to use a standard car in the game, ever, they could easily claim them to be what I think they are: A bonus you get on top of what's already there.

I've got to admit, I'd rather have another ten premium cars instead of those 800 standard cars, but then again, some of the cars I'm most eager to drive are confirmed to be included as premium cars, so I'm a little biased on that one.
