OK, I'll try to answer as many questions and comments as I can...
First, I may have to review race 2, then, since Ade says he's had some trouble in there as well and others confirmed afterwards.
That was the best race for me, having a perfect start and keeping out of trouble. I guess I got lucky that I never went through the chicane with more than one more car around me.
And Jake, indeed I was slow in that chicane but that's the best I could come up with, any faster and I was feeling the back end was going to make a pass on me... I was fairly happy, tho, because I still had some good pace everywhere else so I could manage good lap times. And don't worry about the bumps, they were inevitable and I knew it was because of me. I wasn't going that defensive, I was doing my best.
And when I went to the left and beeped my horn, I actually meant 'go on, then, you should be in front by now'. And then you beeped yours to say 'sorry' so I thought 'ok, then, let's carry on and fight it to the next corner...'. 👍
I did notice your really fair and patient driving and you alone reminded me of a forgotten feature of the first Zero Cup season: the "sportsmanship bonus", which was a 5 points bonus for remarkable sportsmanship behaviour, given to one person per race at most (but it would not always be given out). I probably will reintroduce it.
I really like the spirit behind this sentence:
"i would have gotten past warrius much quicker than i did if id just took a normal racing line and forced my way, but that's not sportsmanship".
And I had forgotten about the bump in the final 2 corners so indeed, thanks for waiting because it evidently makes me forget about the whole incident...
And yes, the Zero Cup is about battling it with the driver in front of you or behind you. It does not really matter where you end up. I prefer a close race fighting for 2nd to last rather than running away with the win, 10 seconds in front. For that there is the A-Spec...
At the Nurb, indeed I had a really bad start. I somehow managed to start in 3rd gear...
I was trying to send a message but then realised I was NEVER going to have time for that. Sorry for the confusion it caused (I didn't think of it). Expect this kind of thing to happen, though, because there will be times when people will do a jump start. Or mistake the horn for the brakes
. Or start in 3rd gear...
(yep @
watermelonpunch, I don't know which is worse!
)
And I was having a LOT of trouble trying to keep @
weescotman and @
drandiiski behind me. And sorry for the bump in the chicane, Weescotman, but you moved to the right, at the braking point, leaving me no room and I couldn't avoid rubbing metal. At least I was the one ending up in a spin...
And I'm sorry that so many people could still not see each other again. I knew about Sparkz who couldn't see Cjr (but found out too late) and guessed about Jake not being able to see Cjr but I assumed everyone else was fine as you guys said nothing. I forgot about it from race 2. Next time, before we start, I'll make sure you see each other and I'll ask people to leave and come back.
Cjr, am I remembering right? Was that you who said you were using a wifi connection and were going to switch? Have you done so? I'm not putting you on the spot but it seems you're usually involved when it comes to ghosts...
If I'm remembering wrong, forget about it...
Talking about Cjr, it looks like you and Watermelon had a lot of fun together.. And indeed you were fighting for 3rd place at High Speed Ring.
Watermelon, it was me beeping my horn at HSR!
I saw you drifting slowly to the right and I was running out of track. But you made room for me and it was one of the good bits in that race. 👍
Overall, the Dino is a difficult car to race with when there are other people on the track... Mind you, I was struggling enough taming it with no one else on track (I kept spinning in practice so I was quite surprised to really spin it out of control once in the whole evening). Which is why I'm probably going to change the tires for next week.
