The only problem with comparing the Challenger R/T to the SS is that its short on power, big time, and still weighs more. A lot more. While I completely agree with you that it is the actual competitor to the SS, especially on price, technically we have to throw the SRT-8 out there on power and weight alone.

RE: The SS Weight?

I'm not sure if official figures have been released yet, but I seem to recall it being right around 4000 lbs.

Which Also Reminds Me...

Chevrolet has their new page up for the Camaro
; Specs, photos, and all that jazz are there. Plus, you can configure your 2010 Camaro as well.

The mileage certainly is impressive. Especially when you factor weight. It almost makes you think if the V6 has cylinder deactivation.

The Nurburgring time, as if important, is rather underwhelming. 7 seconds quicker than a 2003 350z. Neat. But that 0-60 is BS. Probably just a quick thing they threw out to the press. Consumer Reports should have no problem getting that time but its going to be faster than that.

You think it will be quicker than 4.7sec? I'm pondering where the extra 0.2sec came from off the HSVs, as it's the same chassis and engine albeit shorter and slightly lighter, I never thought it would be much quicker though.

The Holden badge causes insane amounts of drag.

HSVs don't have a Holden badge, plus their badge is rounded unlike the bow-tie which is pointy, so the HSV should be more aerodynamic. I suppose that little bit less weight, and having a shorter wheelbase making traction easier to come by makes 4.7sec a fair ask.

Is the HSV GTS the same thing as the G8 GXP? Because the Pontiac already has a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds.

Well its still slow and ugly. Get a real mans car with a Ford badge on it. :P

Just specced up a 2SS model Camaro...They charge an arm and a leg for options that I would expect to be standard on it, especially the $900 sunroof. I suppose that's why its cheaper than the GTO was, though.

Even though the $900 is awfully steep for the sunroof, some of the other options seemed fairly reasonable, particularly the wheel upgrades, and having the overall cost of the RS package come in at less than $2000. But, you can tell where they're making money... Charging that much cash for a painted engine cover ($230), for example, sticks out in my mind.

Considering that I can pick up a nicely equipped 1LT RS for less than $27K, that puts the car at a significant advantage against the rest of the models in its class, the only car beating it on MSRP being the Genesis Coupe 3.8 V6.*

* That being 300+ BHP models, you know, with "nice things" in it

I'm a little disappointed with how they lock out exterior colors with the orange trimmed interior package. And then it sort of contradicts itself where it is listed again on the accessories page.

Why exactly can you only get the spoiler with two colors? That's retarded.

And for that matter, why only on a V6 model that doesn't have the RS package?

I'd be willing to bet that your cars don't have huge V8s and performance numbers that match the SS.
So? I'm interested in the Camaro for its performance, but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore the mileage it gets. Besides that, I can't help it if my 2 Japanese cars have what they have. If Honda decided the Civic & the TL needed a V8, then I would have looked at them.

But, if you want to talk about performance, we'll have to see. According to this link, my TL seems to perform pretty well at Willow Springs.

However, at the end of the day, they're apples & oranges, and the next car I buy needs to have at least 20+ in the city.

Really? Dayum, so less weight and a shorter wheelbase must have accounted for nothing? 4.7sec and 4.9sec must some how be the difference between 0-60mph and 0-100km/hr.

HAH HAH.

Ford? I would prefer FPV, with 'F6' following.

I would prefer the F6 as well. Well, not before Holden and HSV of course.

4.7 will probably be somewhat accurate, but the way Motor Trend and the like test these things it'll come out being better. I mean, the 370z was tested at 4.8 and 4.7s by C and D and MT.

That's one MAJOR difference between US and AU then. All our car mags a generally a few tenths off what the car can probably do and manufacturer times. Especially one issue not long ago, I think it was Wheels. A standard HSV GTS can do 0-100 in 4.9sec, they get around 5.2, then they get a supercharged version with some 460kw or there abouts and do.......5.3sec.:odd: Struggle for traction or not, the same car with more power should get faster, not slower.

That 370Z is fast btw.

Traction is the answer. And struggle is entirely apt. US times are done on much stickier tarmac and in much cooler conditions... and are usually SAE corrected (though times for modern turbocharged cars should not be SAE corrected, as clever ECU tuning makes a mockery of SAE atmospheric correction).

Aussie times are done in hot temperatures that sap power and on not-so-drag friendly tarmac. Thus, they're generally more reflective of actual real-world performance than US times.

And unless you have more tire to go with more power, more power doesn't always equal faster 0-100 km/h times.

It should equal faster 100-200 km/h or 60-100 mph (though the two intervals are not equal) times and faster trap speeds.

But with the same tyres and correct balancing of throttle you can still achieve the same acceleration bare mininum, and thing is the GTS wouldn't spin like a maniac in 2nd gear, so with more power the car should go faster as it can handle more speed on its current tyres. Perhaps correctly balancing 460kw is too tall an order though.:lol:

Depends on how quickly the torque from the supercharger comes on. With some of these big engines, the line between bog and spin is razor thin... and shoving more power in makes the line nearly non-existent...

Non-existent but fun right?

I'm wondering if its a bug with the website, or just poor choices. They're picky with what colors you can match the sticker packs with as well, which is dumb altogether. Any of the colors should be available with white or black stripes, period, and yet, they won't let that fly.

I'm going to have to hunt down a V6 RS, I'm really liking the idea of buying one. Except for the fact that it blows my budget by about $10K.

I'm a fan of rallye-style wheels, especially in black with the chrome ring which is why I chose them. Of course, they proportionally look weird due to the height of the car, but I think the bodykit helps out.

Just built an SS on the Canadian GM site. 36 grand! A great price! If I remember right, the Canadian Nissan website had 370Z's in the low 40's.
