WOOHOO after about a month of trying and trying.. i finally GOT IT!!! 3 days in a row i was getting close + .222, +.323, + .350 ETC... but i always lost it under braking at the very end and crashed into the wall after the chicane. giving me a penalty and loosing because of it..

Well i finally started getting consistent, i could finally get a split of under 56seconds before Klosteral and on one occasion even passed the SL65 before klosteral but crashed immediatly!

I was now passing the SL before or during the Carussel 90% of the time and i did it all doing the following

1. taking every shortcut possible! ( Thanks Dori San ) !!!
2. Memorizing the braking points and entry speeds! This is so important for all the places where there is a jump or a dip that upsets the car as you enter the turn. Slowing down to the proper speed ensures that i will stay on the track and i will not loose it on exit. This works WONDERS for you times!!! It might look slower on replays when your car is not flying in the air and/or turning with 2 tires on the ground. But its SOO MUCH FASTER!!!

Anyways i had a pretty much perfect run i was on track to win by 2 seconds or so.. untill i side swiped a wall and got a penalty

this was right before the sand pit which is before the second small carousell. I managed to get the car back on the road and i saw that i didnt loose too much ground.. I could still see the 190E before he made the left on the small carousell.

From there i went flat out again passed the 190E right after the loong double apex right, and passed the slk right after the second bridge while making the left sweeper. Hard but not all the way 75% on the brakes so as not to loose it from 200mph! i got on the sl300's rear bumper as i was making the last right and passed him with .8xx seconds to spare!!!

Such a sigh of releif!! FINALLY!!!

I love this track. after all this time i love it more than all the rest especially now that i know all of its bumps and turns and braking points and all that jazz

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone... Im glad to know that im not the only one that is nutz enought to spend so much time to beat some "silly" game.

Btw i got the NTSC version and my winning time was 9:12:8xx

On the ign boards i've read that with S2 tires,asm=0/0 and tcs=2, the stock SLR handles exactly like the one in Mission 34. When i tried this, the car felt very similar, yet not quite the same. I still could do some things which in the Mission sent me into an immediate spin. Only with tcs=0 did the car behave the same.

As it is the european PAL version i'm playing, it seems that NTSC and PAL not only differ in waiting time, but car settings as well.

Maybe someone with NTSC can check this.

NTSC version here. I've given up on getting a practice SLR to act anything like the SLR in the mission. I put Sports Hard, and turned both ASM and TCS down to 0. I raced the 4 hour Nuburgring Endurance twice (yes, that's 8 hours of racing) and I was hitting times around 7'15". This probably wouldn't even be fast enough, but I decided to just start trying the Mission again. Whenever there is a bump on the track, the mission car's back end comes way up in the air, and if you didn't hit it perfectly, upon landing, your car will lose it's back end, and there is no controlling it or pulling out of it like w/ the practice car.
Anyway, last night I just raced the mission about 10 times. I still have 8 seconds to shave off, and I'm learning how to hit those bumps w/out spinning the car out.
Point is, it was a waste of time for me to practice all those rounds in the practice SLR because it doesn't handle anything like the Mission SLR, it was a complete waste of my time, and I should have just ran the mission over and over from the beginning.

That sucks. I used Sports medium, asm off, tcs at whatever its usually at. That got me the closest feel, in my opinion, but still not exactly the same as the mission feeling.

With 29 of the 34 missions completed it is time to spend a serious effort at New York with the old Japanese sports cars from the Seventies.
I visted New York for brief visits earlier on in the game and came away cursing the place.
Is this mission a PD joke on the outcome of the war? Shouldn't we be driving these wonders of Japanese manufacturing around Tokyo?
Back to the story.
My first attempt and I really do not like this car and those blind corners. Also the fact that I always seem to catch the AI on a hard corner and can not pass. I finished this run in second place 10 seconds behind the little Mazda.
Several restarts latter I complete 3 laps and have finished 5 seconds behind the Mazda.
I am getting more confident with the car and track and am learning the correct brake points etc.
Next few attempts are arborted due to trying to hard and hitting walls on the second lap.
A few more laps and I am starting to work out split times I need to have a chance.
I will list these as best I remember.
-27 seconds at first timer. This is a hard one as the time flashes up just as you hit the end of the shadow which is my brake point.
-23 at the next one. you should be passing or about to pass position 5.
-19.5 at the start finish line end lap 1.
- 15 at marker 4 and about to pass 4th (red skyline)
- 13 at marker 5 .
-9 at start finish line at end of second lap. you should be in second place by now after passing the Galant and Celica at the hairpin and down the straight.
- 5 at next mark. The Mazda will be just visible.
-3 at the next mark.
At the hairpin the Mazda will be just in front and a clean corner here will see you pass him down the straight.

I was on schedule for a win untill I was distracted and missed my braking point after the -5 timer and hit the wall for a 5 second penalty. I kept going and missed out by -0.5 seconds.

I then knew I could win by driving a clean 3 laps.
Next attempt saw me win by +0.7 seconds after spending visiting New York for 2 hours.
To beat this mission it is important to brake early and set the car up for the corners. Learn your braking points. Pick a spot you can remember and brake there. Do not rely on the flashing indicator as it flashes just a little late for most corners.

yeah I've got a copy of my mate's mem card and had a few goes, got 2 seconds off the pace on my third go so I'm confident of beatin it. the SLR in the mission feels much 'stiffer' than you can get it in arcade mode, I suspect sme suspension tweaks have been made to it but it would be a big job to replicate it.

yes it's better to just keep playing the mission and familiarise yourself with the setup it has. It's just annoying that it takes 2 mins between runs as I'd really like to have more practice at hitting Flugplatz flat out, that's the main corner I stuff up on! :crazy:

This is the only endurance I lost so far. I used a Lotus Esprit, which was pretty much fast enough to win, but I had to pit every 15 laps, yet that damn Corvette had to pit after 30 laps.... I don't know how he did it, but that definitely annoyed me. After 45 laps I realized there was no way in hell I could win anymore, since there was a gap of 20 seconds and I wasn't gaining time on him, so I just let my crappy B-Spec loser finish the race for me.... came in 3rd too, even though I was 40 seconds ahead of the 3rd racer when I changed drivers.

Is it just me, or is this mission not half as hard as people make it out to be? It took me 3 hours to finish it total, I expected to be busy with it for days. I think I also re-started the race after thinking I screwed up too much already, while I could already have made it to the finish. I won this race after a slow start and I went onto the grass (not where the shortcuts are) at least 5 time. I also had trouble passing that SL65 as well, I had to slow down at that long "straight" before getting to the caroussel trying not to crash into it.... I was about to restart the game at that point, I'm glad I didn't because that's when I won it.

sadly, I'm now suffering from the 'curse of M34' after completing it about a week ago...since then, I've lost almost ALL interest in GT4, and I'm only about 60 percent done...I guess I feel i have nothing left to really accomplish--the normal races kinda bore me, and i always know I can b-spec them...I guess I'd like to fill out the car collection, or maybe eventually get all golds on the exams, but I don't feel the same desire to do it since i finished all 34 missions.....this is the part where an online mode could really help keep the game exciting, but I'm not going to open up that can of worms again....

strangely, as if out of habit, I do sometimes enjoy just getting into the SLR and doing free run laps around the 'ring...i don't even bother to look at the times; i just drive...

He's talking about the mission, not the enduro. I managed to beat this in four tries. I guess it's just that it suited my driving style.

I beat this with a manual tranny
You'll notice that the 2000GT goes very low into 2nd gear on the sharp turns
For more speed you need power and for more power you need the right gear...
Each car has it's power margin where you can actually SEE the true power of the car...
I did manual so that when you enter the blood-thirsty 90 degree turns, you can be in 1st gear and get good turns...
Shifting into second after the turn always works!!
You sometimes may have to hold 1st gear for a while but it will all pay off...
It's a garanteed win!!
I beat the "little" Mazda easy
and remember, drafting can be handy

I kinda felt the same way, but now I am going back and trying to get as many A-Spec points as possible. A whole new challenge. You might give it a try (cured my Post-34 Empty Feeling Blues).

I had the same feeling. So I went right to the N'Ring 24 hr enduro, got myself an F-1 car, and went straight to the F-1 series figuring that would be a good challenge. With the exception of the race around the Ring (must be something about that course that doesn't like me), I beat every race no problem and beat the ring my second try. So, in search of a new challenge I found this on these boards.

You should have left M34 to the very last thing you have to do, thats what i did, then you won't get bored, plus you are even more happy when you do it knowing you have got 100% aswell! 👍

Yes, the NA version is frustrating... was for me too. Just remember to brake early, so you can accelerate out quickly. The speed you get from early braking is very important, especially since there are many high speed sections on the track. That's what got me a good 5-8 seconds off my lap time. Also, wall riding the caroussell (spelling?) helps your time if you are really having that much trouble with the mission.

This one is a bugger. I've done 1-10 with no trouble and done the slipstreams and #34 but not this one!

I've had a few attempts but just get more frustrated. I'll try again next weekend.

I've had one go at this and got 2nd... I can see it's gonna be a bit of an ass...

Reckon that manual tip is probably the best thing here... and it's not the hardest track to do manual... (I had to do Manual for the FordGT test here in Prologue to beat it to Gold!)

Took me a whole day to do this one. I use the DS2 and auto but still managed to beat it in the end (although this is now my second DS2 as the first one bit the dust after a very close second place....)

The key for me was just practise to get the best line especially through the weaving central section - smooth driving and smooth overtaking is the key

I overtook the leading old timer just before the bridge on the long straight, and in my excitement managed to loop the car, spinning about 5 times before hammering the wall at the end of the straight. Clambered back on to win by a couple of seconds. The key to a good lap is not to fight the car. Brake early, and even allow it to drift a little wide to maintain momentum. The first two AI are a pain to overtake, but I used the road and a little of the green stuff to avoid the 5 sec penalty. Wall riding is a little risky too, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are really pressed to find a second or two.

how did you guess??? My time including the spin at 300km/h was still 9.13 something I think. The spin didn't cost that much time, because it was towards the braking area at the end of the straight anyway. So I just flew down the track, spinning wildly until the wall halted my progress.

On 18, you just gotta know the track. When I finally beat it, I passed the Sauber going into the last chicane, laps were just under 3 minutes each.

I just beat mission 18 and what you are saying doesn't make sense. If you passed the Sauber into the last chicane your total time would have been around 9:35ish. That is not under 3 minutes per lap. Did you mean "just over 3 mins /lap"?

Here are the facts. PAL users get an additional 8 seconds to win this race! I won this race, with the NTSC version at 9'13.090 I had to bust my balls to win this race and now PAL users are spinning their cars out, taking a 5 second penalty or two, and still winning by a good margin. My margin was .6 of a second. If you have the PAL version and are not winning by at least 8 seconds you need to rethink how good you are. I stand by this statement.

I just finished Mission34 last night, thanks to Dori-San's great writing

. I would say wallriding definately helps. I choosed to wallrode only at once where I was passing the SL65. I was able to enter that turn with a speed of 70mph instead of 50mph and I personaly think this is the easiest and safest way to pass the SL65. By wallriding this turn I was able to gain 2sec from my old time. :sly:
