Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

It feels like I've been laying in a ditch. Back in January, my house was broken into and most of my nerd gear was stolen. The most damning thing about it was that they did it in broad daylight and no one noticed strange men hauling out a 46-inch TV from my house. Thankfully, the insurance company was really cool about everything and started sending me checks to replace everything. Not only am I getting better gear, I'm getting everything less than the stolen items originally cost me. Nothing irreplaceable was stolen.

The dumb asses left most of the power cords for the gear.

Since then, I've been busy with work and going out with friends to keep me out of the house. Right now, I'm huddled around my new TV with cords laid across the carpet, trying to get back into a normal routine. Unfortunately, the last item left on my list is a PS3. With everything considered, it's the least important item. Not being able to play GTA4 and GT5:P right now is killing me, slowly. :(

Thanks, Solid Lifters. I'm glad to be back. 👍

Sorry to hear about your loses, Bro. I guess I don't need to send you anymore PSN messages.

It's good to have you back! 👍

Thanks Dave A and Solid Lifters. I doubt the thieves are smart enough to change my network settings on my PS3, so any messages you sent me should be safe.

You mean a video game website LIED to us just to attract attention to themselves? That has never happened before!

Yeah, it's nice to see Kotaku is just about as worthless as everybody else. I never really trusted them completely, but I will never accept their opinion about any game from here on out. Their credibility is zero. Since their PS3/MGS4 smear campaign, I haven't been back there. I don't think I will for a while, either.

Oh, and the Beta came to an end and I played it to the end. Was fun while it lasted.

I like what I'm seeing. I thought the ads were a bit out there - must be Japanese advertising (though I always associate Japanese ads with Mr. Sparkle and Fruity Oaty Bars; bonus points if you know what two things I'm referring to here) - but they do the job well enough, I guess.

Anyone noticed at 1'16 that guy who looks like old Snake then chenges, is it me or does he look like a younger Snake after he changes?

Either way, great trailer and I'm hyped. Probably the game of the year.

Yeah its the Octosuit... apparently it can change the wearer's face... perhaps some mimicking ...?!

Have any of you earned any DP (Drebin Points) from the 'missions' at the official website? Every time I start the first mission, my PC shuts down. The connection is real, real slow.

No, I click to enter the site and nothing happens so I'm just leaving the site alone for now. Konami seem pretty good at underestimating web traffic .

Thanks Red Oak, kind of obvious but I missed the connection all the same.

You're right. It looks like Old Snake changing into a younger version. Strange. A bit of a spoiler there?

PS3Fanboy reports it as being an ad for a Japanese energy drink

That's all I know.

From,
Chris.

No not that vid, in the theatrical trailer there's a scene where an old snake turns into a young snake, but that might be via use of Octo Cam as Red Oak suggested.

Five Logan ads for the PMCs in MGS4 have been posted at YouTube. Don't post them here, because I don't want to be spoiled. I watch them when the game comes out.
Uh, while I'll respect your wish not to post them, I don't think they'll spoil anything fo you. I wouldn't even know they had anything to do with MGS4 if you hadn't told me ...

I'd just like to post that I correctly called the reason Young Snake appeared so many years ago. I will find the link now.
So I'm supposing you're appealing for some notion of recognition for displaying the estimation skills shared by not a few members of the wider game community?

Why does Young Snake appear in MGS4? You can say it now.

I remember I thought it was only a joke or an option for players to use the Octo-mask Snake wears to change to a Young Snake if they didn't like Old Snake. Remember, Old Snake wasn't loved by everyone when he first appeared. Soon, we saw the Octo-mask and Young Snake feature. However, it is ALWAYS Old Snake under that mask. I remember you thought he was a young clone of Old Snake.

I also remember you said this... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1892254&postcount=69

I thought it was a POSSIBILITY that it was a clone, but I carried out the theory of it being Octo-mask capabilities more than not. Page 23 I believe? I think that's where I saw my posts (and yours) discussing the matter. I don't even think it was a joke, I think it was entirely intentional to spark debate and convo. He did the same thing in MGS3.

Edit: Found it. This is my post.
I have two theories.

1). You play the game opening as Solid Snake, and he dies, you play as a "new clone. This is the least likely of my "theories"...and I think it won't happen, no chance in hell.

2) Kojima has been talking about how the Octo-Cam mimic's the octopus, who not only can change his color, but also his shape.

This got me thinking...what if you could use the mask to make different shapes? I mean, we've all seen in the beginning of the trailer where Snake looks "injured" then it all of the sudden fades away...what if the mask, through electric charge or whatever, allows you to mimic other faces of enemies or whatever, in order to "blend in" as another mode of stealth? I just was thinking that would be an absolutely amazing feature...I'd go insane.

See, I was pretty adamant that the clone theory of mine was false, and I put very little faith in it...but always put faith in the octo-mask. You didn't, however.

Yeah, but you weren't the only one to be having that theory. The octo-camo being responsible for a younger Snake was easily the most popular theory because under Ockham's Razor - the notion that of two conflicting stories, the one that requires the least stretch of the imagination is most likely to be true - it was the most plausible. Sure, there have been Insane Clone Theories being hurled about from one end of the internet, but most have been dismissed by people saying the octo-camo is the most likely cause. I just don't see why you're claiming credit for coming up wih it, is all.

And unless you can "borrow" enemy equipment, I doubt you'd be able to adopt another soldier's face. We haven't really seen any PMC trooper's facial features as they're usually covered up. I think it would be a bit of a stretch to have the ability to take on another person's appearance, and while I wouldn't put it past Kojima-san, I also think it would be one of the first things to be cut whene discovered the PS3's capabilities weren't in the same league as he was expecting.

I'm not claiming credit, I just wanted to point out that, while others on this forum thought my theory was stupid, and that Young Snake was only a 'joke', I was rather close to the truth.

I never thought it was a 'joke' as Kojima always puts these things in some sort of plot form, i.e. Raiden from MGS2 made an 'appearance' in MGS3, though it was just his character model. Many thought it was just a joke, but it wasn't, it actually had some plot relevance.

No need to get worked up about it though, it's not THAT serious you know.
