I'm sick and tired of waiting to build a new PC for recording music (since this POS wont work). I've been looking at this... http://www.americanmusical.com/item..._mmc=Froogle-_-SearchEngine-_-Feed-_-EMU 0404

Pako, this should do it for me, right? I'll be using a Sure SM57 and my current PC (AMD Athalon XP 2500+ 1.83GHz and 768MB Ram, Windows XP Home, no sound card but the motherboard's '97 AudioTek, or something)

Alright....kind of threw something together. It's just drums and bass, pretty basic song with a 1/8 note bass drive.

Song structure:

E -> A -> E -> A groove -> E long groove -> G groove -> E outro

Record your part in it's entirety. Your sound file needs to be the entire length of the supplied wav file to allow for proper syncing of the tracks. You can provide a 'mixed' version with your part and the original wave file, but I also ask that you supply a solo track of just your part so it can be mixed by me (call it quality control) since we have multiple people working on this project, we need a 'master mix' available.

Send me a private message requesting the FTP information to be able to upload and download the files. I can work with mp3, wav, aiff so file formats shouldn't be a problem. The original file was recorded in 24-bit 44.1 sample rate. I can take 16-24 bit but keep the sample rate at 44.1khz for consistency.

Have fun....

I've got the EM 0404 on the way. Plus, I've been doodling around on my presets to try to get my original sound on my sons practice amp, which I guess I've got no choice but to use. Sounds thin and bright, but oh well. I haven't played in a long time, again, so I need to practice. A lot. I have no calluses and my fingers are weak. It might take a few weeks to get back up to speed.

Set me up for that track. You can use MSN and set up a sharing folder and put it in there.

On it's way...plus a little 90 second diddy. Many I need to work on my chops.

Oh well.

sorry people I can't spend much time on the internet these days ... still I'll looking forward to add somthing to the track :)

Not a problem. Just checked out your MySpace and listened to your tracks on there. Do you have anything you'd like to upload that we could use for a rhythm track? I can hear some nice fretless bass lines with plenty of "mu-wah" Jaco style.

Hey Pako thx for visiting us on the Space 👍
We'll be proud to help and supply the rhythm track ! :)

One thing : It is not me that takes care of drums and percussions, and the songs are improvised :ouch: so we'll have to wait a couple of days for me and Matteo to meet, set up everything and make the exports
I'd say that it should be available for the WE !

That would be great!!! Solid is working on some of the other stuff right now....well....when he gets his calluses back. :) Should be a diverse collection when it's all said and done.

Keep in touch,

Peace

An update:

Well, things are coming along a bit more slowly than I expected. My chops are still not up to where they need to be. I have an idea completed in my head for the 90 second ditty, what is really cool. It's kind of a ZZ Top/Van Halen sounding pinch harmonic-laden bluesy romp. There are some blazing scale runs I just can't complete as smoothly as I need or want to, so it's back to practice, practice, practice.

I still haven't figured out how to add a track to it with my program, so I've been playing along and recording on a complete separate file. I figured, you could just take it and insert in your own track with your gear if it comes to it.

UPDATE

I've been working on my chops as well as my tone, which I wasn't happy with. I'm getting there. At the end of my two hour session today, er um, yesterday, I was happy with my tone. I wonder how long that will last?

My chops have improved, but still not perfect. Thank Petey my fingers don't hurt as nearly as bad as they did a week ago. Calluses are not fully formed yet, but they're hard enough to get an hour or two of playing per day.

Still haven't figure out the software program for importing a tracks into an already existing track. I think I'll quit with this one simple program and start with different, more complex program.

Just checking to see how things are coming along... :)

Are you still having issues with your software?

Yeah, I've switched to Cubase LE. However, the manual is 567 pages big, and I'm only up to 55-60. Every time I learn something new, I got a try it out. Then, I lose interest and do something else. Heh.

Update

I went back to using WaveLab Lite. I just can't get your 90 sec grove thing to work with Cubase LE. It's a bit too intimidating. Especially the 500+ pages of the online owners manual. Problem with it was, as soon as I learn something new, I would put it to practice, and the frick'n' thing wouldn't work! Bah!

It works fine in WaveLab, so I gave up on reading the extra 500 pages (lol) and went the easy way out. Problem is, and haven't figure out how to add a new track to your grove so I can record my own track with my own jam and learn to punch in and out without recording over your tracks. So, I record my ditty on its own track while playing back yours.

Problem is, I can't sync them well. So, I guessed. As soon as I tried to record the idea I have in my head, I lost track of what I wanted to record, and did something that ended up sounding cool, until I messed up. lol

Here it is. It fits in sync with your groove the best I could get it, for now. In no way is this the final product. I'm still learning to do it. Plus, my fingers aren't up to full speed, yet. It's taking a lot longer than I anticipated, unfortunately. At least my chops are improved, but nowhere where I want them to be. I'm practicing everyday, for at least an hour. Sometimes two hours and sometimes for three. I'm also playing on four strings. LOL If I can't play on four, six ain't gonna help me out.

It ain't perfect, it ain't in sync and it ain't in tune for your jam, but at least it's there as some proof of my efforts.

Just out of interest do we have many singers on here? I'm looking for some acapellas that I can chop up for a dance track.

Still no new PC that will work with my music software, but I think the time is coming up to finally get one. I'm still waiting for a PC that will do what I want (HD) and will work with my recording software.

So, after not touching a guitar in nearly five months, and dealing with very numb fingers with no calluses, I played for about a half hour and did this... http://www.mediafire.com/?cmx0xwen51d it's not good, but it's not bad either, for not touching a guitar in five months. It fits with Pako's 90 sec bass jam. Yeah, I know, I need to adjust the noise gate settings. I'm still working on it. Oh, and no reverb or delay, so it's a pretty raw guitar sound, too.

Ok, I recorded this today with the new bass. It includes three bass tracks featuring the Skjold and a drum track. I'm open to any other instruments, ect....and ideas as well. It's not extremely tight, but it's a rough idea of something plus it gives me something to post in this thread. :)

MP3: 320kbs, 44100Hz, Length: 4 min 28 sec, , Title: Earth

Very nice! I have no idea yet what to add to it. lol Again, I write pretty much simple hard rock riffs and licks.

Sounds great, though. I'm really liking the tone of your new bass. 👍

When I get my new audio receiver and get that running, I'll attack my studio gear which is tore down and off to the side at this moment. Then, I have the hard part of coming up with something.

This will be a good exercise in "playing out of the box" for ya. A good opportunity to grow musically. :D

Thanks for even entertaining the idea of trying to come up with something. I really didn't leave a lot of room, sonically. Should be a good challenge for ya, not that we need anymore in life....., but you know.

OK, this is totally "In-The-Box" playing, but it was a lot of fun! The boys were really rock'n' out to this one. Again, simple 'hard rock riffing' a la Solid Lifters. :D

Hard Rock Riff Play it LOUD! (Or, go home, wuss!) :)

EDIT: Above link is dead, so try these...

Great track. I think it would be a lot better with more dynamics on the top frets though... especially towards the end. That way, it takes away from some of the repetitiveness and makes a nicer pattern.

I totally agree... 4 minutes of what is basically one riff get's to be a little much. I'll see what I can come up with.

@Solid,

I think that will work! I'll try to followup with Omnis' suggestion and post a revision that you can work with!

Whoa, I had no idea this thing was active again! Cool. Need drums?

EDIT: Or another guitar track?

Attention...I need help trying to get my shreddage in tempo...some people just hook up their axe with the computer but I'm trying to just lay down a blast beat in Reason or see who is more experienced with it and I can shred countless riffs and bars

I wish I'd record inside Reason, but instead I have to settle for GoldWave which sucks

Practice with a metronome or a steady electronic beat device? Start out slower then work your speed up slowly.

No of course I use metronome out of Reason, it's just when I record I need to "cut" out the riff and I can't determine the tempo or if it's length is correct, I need some other program I guess...

I've just had a listen to it. It sounds alright, but a lot of instruments seem broken over eachother rather than being layered together for one constant flow of a song. Maybe it's the pluckyness from the bass, I'm not too sure. Some different volume levels on particular instruments or as suggested, a different flow to break up that main bass rhythm of the song into verse/chorus sections.

Other than that, I like what you guys are trying to do. 👍

Hey guys, I play some guitar, im not great, but once I get a plug im sure I can record some rythem for you guys if you need it ;)

And! I wanna try bass, Kinda sucks Igottah buy one to play, but doesnt it always? Anyways, do you guys think just going to a local guitar shop and buying a 180$ bass would be chill for awhile till i learn if i like it or not?
