Pako
I was waiting for Solid Lifter to record/upload his riff.
Sorry for taking so long but I couldn't buy that Cakewalk program. It never worked properly, which the Cakewalk people warned me about. It worked as a recorder, but for some reason, it wouldn't make MP3s. So, I'm looking for something that will work. I have downloaded the program you recommended, but I'm not using it just yet.

My PC has a recorder, but it makes wav. files only. Can you use those? I forget. I haven't used the Lame MP3 decoder on recordings yet, but I'm sure they'll work. But the problem with it, it's only one track. So, only unfinished work can be sent, or one take stuff only. No overdubs, or anything elaborate.

Music wise, I have several things we can use already. I was going to send them all to you so you can choose wich one to do. I mostly write simple to complex hard rock riffs, but I'm doing stuff more suited so everybody can contribute something. I'm shooting for something more bluesy, but not in a typical shuffle. I even have some surf rock riffs and ideas, but I'm not sure if people are into that. Overall, it's going slow, but i'm still plucking away.

I can't upload my riff onto the site. There's no option to upload it on.
I just looked for myself, and didn't see anything either. I was able to link a file of my four-year-old son playing the guitar from another website, so I guess that's how I can do it if I need to.

Sorry about the confusion with the file attachment. It seems the permissions wern't set quite right. Should be good to go now. Please let me know if you still can't see an "attachment" option when you post a thread or reply.

Thanks.

.WAV files are uncompressed audio files. You might want to encode them into .mp3, .ogg, .mpc or whatever else is possible, if you want to bring the size down.

Here's a guide with some info:

I just checked and I don't see it either Pako. I tried using my old post first to test it out. When that didn't work, I tried making a new post and never saw it.

I ordered a brand new amp from Sweetwater almost two weeks ago. Since it was taking so long to get here, I decided to call them today to see what the delay was. The amp they said was in stock wasn't in stock and they've been holding the order since then. Bastards. I cancelled the order and tossed their catalog in the trash. I'll never order from them ever again. I'm now going to find the amp I want someplace else. Yet more delays. I'll keep you posted.

I'm still coming up with all sorths of riffs but nothing that sounds easy and/or fun to play. My playing is up to speed but it's hard getting work done with the two boogers, wife and GT4 getting in the way, plus not being able to record yourself for more than sixty seconds or do any over dubs. But once the amp gets here, I'll start using your program.

That's horrible service. I've spent literally thousands of dollars with those guys, and I can say in the last three years, their service (at a premium price) has gone down. I hear you as far as distractions go, this is usually that start of our busy season, and with the two boogers, wife and GT4.........:)

I just placed an order with Musicians Friend. One item I needed, the adapter, was out of stock. They said it would come back in stock today, but it didn't show. So, instead of waiting and causing even more delays, I just placed the order without it hoping Radio Shack will have the adapter/transformer I need. They said they had it in stock, but past experiences with those idiots leaves me with doubts. I sure hope I don't get screwed on this one. Keep positive thoughts.

I got my new amp a couple of days ago and have been trying to come up with a decent recording but not coming up with a good sound for my normal tone. So, I'm trying to come up with something new that sounds a little better. I put a sample of the one that I think sounds the best at your website Pako. I also sent you an e-mail yesterday with a different sample. It sounds muted to my ears. I can't seem to be able to control the recording level for some strange reason. So, the amp volume has to be set very low, and I hate playing it like that. I need to get that speaker cone moving for the sweeter tones, but can't.

Anyway, let me know what you think. If it sounds too distorted, I guess I'll come up with something else. The sample reflects a tone a lot more "Heavy Metal" then I'm used to. With this new tone, I'll have to come up with a new piece of music that fits the style a little better.

So you got your amp! Right on.... Sounds like Van Halen meets Iron Maiden. :-) The tone is cruchy for sure, but hey....we can go for it. Were you recording using a line-out on the amp? I couldn't really hear any 'air'. In any case, yeah....I'm excited and what ever tone you want is totally cool with me....I'm just a bass player. :sly:

No, it wasn't 'record out,' but I did try it in my desperation. That signal is waaay too high. It was very oversaturated when I recorded it. It sucks I can't get the true tone of this amp. It really sounds great compared to the recordings I'm making. Oh well...we'll just have to make do.

I don't understand why Gold Wave doesn't have a recording level adjustment. If it does, I couldn't find it in the two hours I was trying to get it to work for me.

This is how I'm recording my amp. A Shure SM57 close up, connected to a Low Z balanced to Hi Z unbalanced adapter/transformer, connected to female to female 1/4" coupler, connected to a 1/4" instrument cable, connected to 1/4" to 1/8" mono adapter which is connected to my mic input. It shouldn't be this much of a problem, should it? I guess my computer sucks. Heh.

Oh, I came up with two riffs last night. They'll be over at the BO.

Later.

That was great 👍. I liked the deeper parts much better than the high screeching parts though.

Yeah, it's sounds fine here, but recording on computer isn't very good. I turned up the amp a little too high. Oddly, the sound was very soft; the volume knob was on 1.75 and the amp goes to 10. I have to set it to 1.5, or get that oversaturated screeching sound. I wish I had some recording level control, but don't. :indiff:

That reminds me to work on some new riffs. I still haven't found a good riff yet for our project. But I've been too busy with other stuff. Baseball season is upon us, and the kids have games and practice. I finally got to play GT4 today, after not being able to play it for the past several days. 👍

Saleen Man
That's awesome. How long have you been playing guitar? You sound really good. 👍
Thanks. I've been playing longer than you've been alive. For 22 years, or so.

This whole thing is a great idea, and I'd love to throw some riffs at you guys, but I don't have any recording software. :indiff:
Do you have MS Windows XP? If so, you already have an audio recorder. All you need is a microphone and a way to connect it to your PC. Usually through the mic input. Click on Start. Then, All Programs. Then Accessories. Then Entertainment. Then Sound Recorder. You can change the recorders sound quality in "File Properties." I use 48,000kHZ, 16 bits mono. Then, I convert it to a MP3 file after I've saved it.

Go to this link, GTP Collaborative Music Project to see some of my other riffs I posted. You might need to contact Pako before hand. This project is slow going, but I'm sure when Pako chooses a riff to work off of it'll get the ball rolling.

Been playing keyboard for 7 years now.

Do not record into the mic of your computer. Instead record into your line in.

Put ure computer volume down and the line in volume. Also lower the volume of your instrument or the mic if your recording into one. very important for the quality.

set the volume to about 1/3 of its capability on the pc.

ill can upload some melodies I made...or beats. I do more elctronic/rock stuff. well see what happens,

peace

Solid Lifter,

I have to extremely apologize for my slowness on this project. We had to hire a new drummer and have been extremely busy trying to get him up to speed on our tunes. Anyways, yes….I’ll have to re-review the licks again. Was their any particular groove that you personally liked? To be quite honest, I liked them all. ;-)
