That makes no sense if the "owners" wouldn't let them drive the car fast.

Did no-one see how Hammond was getting the Fezza seriously sideways? And also accelerating the 959 rapidly? They also did a drag race too as well and Hammand was messing up the gear changes so badly, I wondered if the engine was gonna explode or the gears themselves.

I am sure that if the cars survived that, it would be able to survive a lap around the track at race speed.

Although I suspect it was more for insurance reason than anything else.

Personally, the whole show felt a bit flat. Having Prescott was a bit irritating when he kept standing up and explaining his reasonings for the decisions made. He didn't seem to realise that once people are asking about policy decisions, you are supposed to make a short, concise statement on it and then make a light hearted comment about it, rather than just state your beliefs with it and defend it to hell and heaven.

All of which was probably performed once and was vital to that segment of the show. I highly doubt the Stig does only one fast lap, though only one may be time, without any practice in the car. Could very well be they chose to do the segment but not push for a timed lap as it was largely irrelevant to the other cars on the board.

Now that Audi has ruined the A8, the XJ is my luxo-barge of choice. Good noise from it too.

I think that had the F40 and 959 done laps they'd have been way slower than a lot of modern cars. It's not fair to take a car that's 25 years old and put it up against something 25 minutes old.

The Fiat 500 is not cool. I know this because Edinburgh is full of them, fully liveried up with the logos of local estate agents. Cars used as runabouts by estate agents aren't cool. End of story.

The Fiat 500 hasn't been cool since a few months after launch, since then it's been the car of choice for a womans midlife crisis. If you dare to look inside you'll find a face of hate and misery.

Indeed. It's for people who've realised that they can no longer sustain the happy life lie of the Beetle's interior vase.

The letting agent I used to deal with in London drove an Audi TT... they've sent shivers down my spine ever since. Often was the time when I had to resist the temptation to embellish his TT badge with some temporary graffiti... the cunning insertion of "i", "wa" and "wi" would all have worked equally well.

I missed half of last night's episode because my Mum forget about our (unspoken) 'Casualty/Top Gear' arrangement, which involves me not phoning her during Casualty and her... well, you get the idea. :irked:

As I posted in another thread

Seeing the lap times would be interesting, but part of me is pleased they didn't do a lap. The times they would do, especially as it was soaking wet, would have been beaten by Focuses and Meganes. It just wouldn't have been right and would spoil the majesty of those 2 iconic cars.

So true  I either see woman clearly in some sort of midlife crisis driving them or teenage girls which have added pink coloured items to the dashboard usually complementing the 'L' plates :yuck: Haven't seen one bloke round these parts driving one which is pretty amazing seeing as its been out so long.

Now that Audi has ruined the A8

A few years back it was a amazing car, I also feel BMW ruined the 7 series with the 'it actually looks like a fake BMW' styling

Robin.

The BBC gets it wrong...again! Jeremy would never have won his race with God if he'd started from the real most westerly point of Britain which is Ardnamurchan on the west coast of Scotland. If he'd said England then fair enough, but he didn't. I'm actually glad the series is now finished, it's got too crass lately with nowhere near enough real cars to hear about. Who gives a stuff about a moon buggy?

I agree with the fact that the Stig needs to do several laps. I was just pointing out that due to the previous moments before the Top Gear Lap the cars were shown driving aggressively fast and with big slides. And yet no-one questioned that?

I do agree with the statement that these cars are 25 years old and their aura needs to be kept intact. It was going to be obvious that technology has moved on and would have totally trashed these wonderful cars on time and ability. But then, its all about the spirit and the feel that they give you, when you look at them.

I did find that when the Fezza was going sideways or being driven fast, the wheels looked quite mismatched from the size of the bodywork....Looked more like a Tonka toy than an actual, real life sized car.

Round here it's mostly young people who tend to flash their lights and wave at each other! In fact, about 75% of the 500s I've seen on my travels have been driven by young men. I always make a point of taking a quick look to see who's driving. A young girl in a 500c pulled up next to me in traffic the other week and she was almost leaping out of her seat with joy!

She might have been a bit mad, mind.

Perhaps the seat massage wouldn't turn off...

Corrachadh Mor, actually. Part of Ardnamurchan I grant ye, but about 35 metres further west than Ardnamurchan Point which is oft-stated to be the westernmost point of mainland Britain.

And I've only ever seen young women driving 500s. Not that I look half the time, mind. In fact I chased one of them around the uni campus the other day after she swiped a parked Fabia with the back bumper of her Pop and simply carried on driving like nothing had happened. Lovely.

35M is close enough for me mate. I actually do know the precise point you're talking of though. My folks used to drag me up to that area for our annual holidays, mostly around Arisaig though (Bunnacaimbe to be more precise).

I didn't read through the forums to find this question, but does anyone remember the season 16 promo? In it, I remember Hammond in some giant red tank smashing through walls, and a Hummer exploding. But I don't recall ever seeing that in an actual episode though? And don't think that because I'm in America that we get the chopped up 45 minute episode either, because we don't any longer.

And here it is.

yeah true, but remember they chop the TG series in 6 episode now, the first 6 are over now and TG will return to our screens in June so hopefully the some giant red tank smashing through walls, and a Hummer exploding you refer to will be in the episodes when it returns :)

Top Gear being sued by Tesla

Back in 2008 'Top Gear' broadcast a race between the petrol-powered Lotus Elise S and the electric Tesla Roadster. During the test Jeremy Clarkson said the Tesla ran out of power after 55 miles, compared to the 211 miles claimed by the manufacturer.

Tesla complained about the show at the time, with the BBC admitting some of the footage was shot to show what could happen.

They said: "[The show] intentionally and/or recklessly, grossly misled potential purchasers of the Roadsters… Its reputation has been severely damaged."

A Tesla spokesman told the Daily Mail: "The BBC's conduct has given us no choice but to sue them and clear up their lies."

 What next? Fiat suing them for pointing out that they forgot to fit an aerial to the Abarth 500? It's an entertainment show, not a serious reviews program.

How about when Clarkson single handedly destroyed the sales of the Chrysler Crossfire coupe, describing the rear as like a dog squatting for a you-know.

As the show was aired in 2008, why are Tesla just bothered about it now? Why didn't they care then?

And anyway, I don't really see anything wrong in what TG said about it.

They did... but they were so angry after seeing the show, they got into a Tesla and drove it to BBC Television Centre to complain in person...

Are you sure it wasn't the fact that it was an overpriced plastic bin that did that? ;)

What I find quite funny is that Top Gear claimed the Tesla only does 55 miles when driven aggressively, which was the whole point because it was in a race with an Elise. Yet Tesla have their nickers in a twist when they say it does 313 miles when driven mindfully, I have no problem with that fact but that isn't the point Top Gear were even making.
