GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

OK guys, last thing we want is that we start hitting each other in the thread aswell. Later tonight I will revieuw the race as said, and i will come back on incidents that happened. At the moment without seeying the replay it is hard for me to judge, but once again as promissed we will look to what happened. We organize this to learn and to get close racing among people who are less skilled, with the purpose to improve them, this does not work over 'one night ice'... it takes time... and remember these races are for fun, you will not earn anything by behaving rough on track disregarding the WRS rules.

We will review the replay and come back to some incidents.

Sometimes things are not what they seem.:)

I appoligize if I did that, you and I seem to have frequent misshaps. :ouch:

Really? Never noticed...too busy being run off.

This race I didn't give up and fought back. I look at the lap speeds and see that I'm competitive so I just have to figure out how to qualify better or getting around cars cleaner.

Next race I'll make sure I pass on the straight ONLY. Hope to see you there.

I'd appreciate a look at the first corner and the subsequent contact in the Sprint race. Like I said in my previous post, I know that I tapped Stef and he spun out. I would like to know how I could have given him position back without affecting so many others.

Thanks in advance for the advice and input. :)

I just reviewed my demos. I wanted to apologize to PASM again for that for the incident in the first turn of the Sprint. It looks a lot worse on me in the demo than it did during the race. It was like I got stuck to your car. :( Again, sorry, my bad.

You do not need to give position back at the spot, you can slowly proceed and wait then... as long as you give back the place, ofthen this does mean you will end up loosing more places, but that is the downside of it... I did not save the sprintrace, as it is a non official race, so can not revieuw it... grid start has his consequences on Spa.

No worries Sark. I guess it was a combination of contact and lag that caused that. It takes some time to get used to the first corner frenzy and it is ok to make mistakes. We're all here to learn.

Wow, close finish! Any pictures from the drivers? Did Dean make a pass on final lap or was Al closing in?

We exchanged the lead a couple of times in the last two laps, he got me in Blanchemont after I went wide!

Al was chasing me, until I broke too late in the end of the 10th lap where he overtook me, but I overtook him again. Really good battle 👍:cheers:. So, both I guess, Tim :D.

Yesss I knew it. All the time while doing the TT I was thinking to myself "This would be a perfect race match up.

It should be an awesome race.

Revoy, you'll have to visit the Wednesday race thread and register there. As a D2-Gold driver you won't be allowed in the rookie feature race although you'll be able to participate during the instruction hour and also in the sprints that follow the rookie feature.

Ahh, gotcha. What exactly do you do in the instruction hour?

Cool... I see you signed up for Wednesday. 👍 Note: We have practice for the Wednesday races on Tuesday (tomorrow - you can check times in that thread).

During the instruction hour an experienced driver (or several) will volunteer to join the lounge and give a track walk through. They'll do a couple slow laps, stopping at key corners and explaining their approach and what their thinking in that section of the track. Then they'll do a couple hot laps to demonstrate at full speed. Sometimes the instructors will do one-on-one drive alongs where the instructor will follow a student and comment on their lines, braking points, apex speed, etc. The instructors also observe laps during practice and the feature race and give feedback.

Noted thanks.

& I understand now. Wasn't 100% sure at first. Thanks for clarifying that up

Signed up, Matte Purple with Lightning Yellow wheels, #23. :)

Car is being run in. Got another 78 miles or so before it's done and I do an oil change. Been running TT laps to do the run in and tune to my liking. 'Getting pretty good times but not quite as good as the D1, D2, D3 drivers in the TT event thread. Every time I tune the suspension I'm finding a little bit more time. I was gonna use Vagabond's tune but I'm doing good with my own so I don't think I'm going to bother with trying another person's tune plus I like doing things my own way and I'm not going to learn if I don't experiment with my own settings to see what works best for me. Too tired to do any more for now but I can't wait for Saturday! May enter the Wednesday race as well but not sure yet.

I'm 50/50 to participate as an instructor on Saturday. I have a higher probability to make practice on Friday if there is interest. Personally, I'm running EDK's setup. I tried it for my first laps today and liked it so didn't try anything else.

PS> You're all invited to practice tomorrow as well. We'll be setup with tire wear on fast, but otherwise the same combo.

Very solid combo this week, nice track wich should allow close racing..... about last week, I have found different situations in the replay wich are not done.... we are not giving penalty's but I am making foto's to explain how these things can and should be handled....I hope to be able to put them up in the thread tonight...

Another welcome to a new driver ; Welcome Vince !!

Good idea, Frank 👍. I'm not sure if my "bump" with Al, on the last lap, is okay. - And welcome Vince :gtpflag:.

- You'll all see me in car #9.

IMPORTANT

Some of you might have noticed that this week we will have tyrewear and fuelconsumption set to fast and we will have real grip reduction. Because we are driving a FF car this will not have a big impact.... as the same setup is being used in the wednesday races, this gives you a chance to run on Tuesday (practise) and Wednesday (race) in the same conditions as we will do on Saturday. Have fun 👍

Also; for optimal conditions : make sure your car is broken' in ;)

The GATE series I was in has now finished which means I am now able to attend again. Signed up, and I'll see you all soon ;).

Good choice! With a FF car it's all about babying those front tires so tire wear really does add to the event this week. 👍

TIP: Your goal with a FF car (when tire wear is on -- and similar in 4WD cars) is to find the proper/ideal speed in each corner which will allow you to take the proper racing line but without over scrubbing the front tires. If you go too fast into corners you will under steer and you could compensate by steering more... in this case you are basically using the front tires as brakes which is not only inefficient, but wears them quickly. You'll see the impact during the race clearly now that tire wear is on. The hard part is not only finding that speed, but hitting it consistently and keeping your steering angles down to a proper level (resisting the urge to steer more versus adjust throttle/speed) .

In the time trial it can actually be faster at times (or at least certainly easier) to just steer more and slow that way... your feedback this is happening is the red tire indicator, but it really doesn't cost you much if you don't completely over do it. But this added dimension for the online race means you might need to make a small adjustment... those red tire indicators mean you are burning tread and costing yourself grip in future turns/laps.

Reduce your steering angle. If with the lower steering angle you can't stay on the proper racing line (if you go wide) then you might consider lowering your cornering speed (less throttle or brake more or wait longer to get on the gas) to lower speed instead. You might end up with the same lap times because you were scrubbing speed anyway by over steering and you'll save tread in the process. If you do this you'll keep about the same pace early, but reap the rewards of better tires than your competitors late in the race. What makes it even harder is as the tires degrade (they will degrade no matter what you do, you can only impact the degradation rate) you need to keep adjusting.

This is difficult and bad habits die hard... I'm not actually that good at it... but I'm constantly working on this and thinking about it when I race with an FF car. I would like to hear feedback and tips myself from drivers that are much better at managing their tires with FF cars.

FF cars are torturous on the front tires. Not only are they steering and doing the majority of braking they're also supplying all the power to the ground. Fronts will go MUCH faster than the rears in this race. This is gonna be fun. :)

Will there be a practice tomorrow (Friday)? I'm pretty sure I need some guidelines, as I'm only running 1:43's :boggled:.

There is always practice... the question is who will show up? The last couple weeks none of the rookies were present. I believe Sjaak opened the lounge two weeks ago without any attendance.

If you guys want practice jump in the lounge during the practice time slot as it's reserved for you, set it up for the academy specs and then post to the thread that you've opened the lounge. Or better yet if you know you're gaing to do the above post a message a couple hours earlier saying you're going to be in the lounge start at X:XX. That usually gives someone notice to make some time.

Basically, the practice is your show as participants in the rookie racing series and you make of it what you will.

I can't commit to attending practice 100% (my kids only have a half day of school), but if someone opens the room and posts and I'm available I'll drop in for at least 30 minutes. I'm not going to open the lounge myself, but if I know someone is in there practicing I'm more likely to drop in.

The best part of Tuesday practice are the short practice races... gets you used to other people's braking points and pace and sometimes is an eye opener. Hopefully the rookie practice can get more attendance regularly because it's a great way to improve *before* the official race and a good place to make your mistakes when they don't count. :sly:
