What should happen (or not happen) to GT6's GT Mode?

Ohohoh I know one. đź’ˇ How about GT6 has something like GTPSP's non career mode, like say us making our own fun. Such as a event creator.

This is what I thought it should go:

Select mode​

(1) Race - Offline/Online
Racing through the pack to earn first place and win. Includes difficuties Easy, Normal, Hard and Professional. You can also select number of AI on field, up to 2 to 16 cars. The more difficult the race and number of AIs you add, the more money you're given.

(2) Drift - Offline/Online
Earn the most points drifting. Leaderboards are also added in Drift Mode, where you race against others times or your friends to be on top of the boards with the most points.

(3) Time Trial Offline
Earn the fastest time. Like Drift Mode, theres a leaderboard but you are attempting to earn the fastest times by racing against the others or your friends ghosts on any track they'd raced on.

(4) Championship Race - Offline/Online (New mode)
A championship based race where you race to earn as much points through each round as possible in order to win the championship series you've created. You're custom championship series can go up to 10 to 20 rounds in numberous of tracks you select.

For example. You have 5 rounds in your championship series. Your first round is circuit racing, and your second round is point to point racing. Your third round can be rally racing, and your fourh can be drag racing. The fifth round, is up to you to decided. Your championship series can be anything you want it to be. Such as your championship is all rally racing or all drag racing. Quantifying is also included only in Championship Race mode.

Drift racing is also included in the championship series, but I think it should only be used for online championships, since the AIs won't be programed to drift with us sadly. lol

(5) Practice - Offline
Besically it's just you on any tarmac track, rally track or drag strip track alone using any of your customs cars or using arcade cars, to master with for racing, drift and more. The Gymkhana track is included.

Select car​
Custom Cars: Select any cars you've purchased from the NCD and tuned.

Arcade Cars: Select any cars that are available in the game (All cars are unlocked at the start that aren't purchased nor tuned).

AI Cars: You have the ability to select any cars available in "Arcade Cars" for AIs drivers to drive. Whether you choose them to drive slow or fast cars, it's your choise. You can also select their cars to be stock or upgraded as well.

Select Tracks​
Select any tracks you wish to race on, tarmac, offroad or drag strips. All tracks are unlocked and available at the start.

Well that's my take for something different for GT6, instead of being like what GT5's career was. Took me an hour or two to think of one. :) I also agree that GT5's career mode is just a same old same old boring mode that's basically like GT1's career.

Hope you guys like my idea. I'd made sure it was for everybody to like or love. :)đź‘Ť I need a rest. :lol:
 
How about GT mode having a road car branch and a race car branch? If someone is new to the GT series, there could be license tests. "Veterans" of the series could just get on with starting from karts or grassroots production race cars and climb the ladder. Some people can amass their road car collection and then try race mode or whatever. Both modes can be done simultaneously, all cars accessible in Arcade mode and some prize cars specific to either mode and once unlocked can be used( like DLC ) irrespective of "levelling up".
 
Sorry for the long post but here it goes, + - input is appreciated.

Honestly, I want something where I can take my '08 Civic Type-R (super fun to drive) and progress with just that one car as far as maybe a LM race or Grand Touring championship (progress like a career) . Tune up or down to meet requirements and win by SKILL, not by out tuning my opponents. After I've gone far or completed all races and championships, a 'career' that can give you a good 60 hours of fun game time minimum per car, I can still switch cars when I please (if they meet requirements) in my current career or start in a new league with a new car.

The current GT Mode forces you to change cars in order to complete races ((driving a Vitz, ugh...)) and breaks you away from a car you are starting to get attached to in order to progress. Look:

-2 out of 9 events I can enter.
-8 tracks total to race where I have a chance to win.
-1 championship to almost win a prize car.

Expert Series: (where the game starts to open up for any car in the game but it must be super fast to have a chance)

-5 out of 9 events I can enter. (not even sure about Turbo event)
-20 tracks total to race where I'll be super lucky to win.
-4 championships to get close to win a car (but I won't...)

Extreme Series: (no chance for my car)

-3 out of 9 events I can enter.
-10 tracks total to race I know won't win.
-1 championship to never win the prize car.

I'm not even gonna count Endurance Series as I have no wish to do one race for 4 hours and the latter...


So...

-14 out of 45 events total you can enter
-50 tracks total to race in (60% of those races which you have little to no shot at winning fully tuned) which leave you with a realistic 20 tracks to race and win (you easily win stock and is pretty much cheating if fully tuned) which again leave you with either little to no challenge because of the A.I. and no penalties.
-8 championships to compete in to win extra cash and prizes (and half of the prizes you can realistically win are crap)

So where is the challenge? Where is the progression with 1 car you want to keep driving? Where is the incentive to continue? Where is the fun?

Do I really have to be force to make my own rules and ways to make this game entertaining?


To me GT mode just feels rushed and not thought out, maybe because it was rush and not thought out...
 
I can totally dig your proposal, Cayenne, provided that I can play forever and not start my character from scratch.

I think something like ToCA Race Driver 3 should be used.

You started in very basic cup races and progressed until you reached a race between F1 Williams cars of 3 decades.

If this were coupled with the tuning features, cars, tracks and such of normal GT Mode, it would be incredible.

EDIT: To those above, you sound very ignorant.

It's a racing game, the racing should be given first priority. A bad menu and interface is minor as long as the racing is great. I'm not paying $60 to enjoy going through menus. I'm paying money to race. Saying that the events don't need a complete overhaul and that the racing aspect is in limited parameters is very silly, PD could do way more. I think you should listen to Simon.

I like the freedom that GT games have as far as being able to adapt a car to a series rather than having quite rigid regulations like in Race Driver 3. But I do like the idea of unlocking events by completing certain prerequisite events - it makes infinitely more sense than arbitrarily levelling up as seen in GT5. Makes more sense than licenses as well, actually. However I am just wondering whether all the prerequisite events could become tedious, especially in comparison to GT2 where all the special events were available provided all the licenses were acquired.

I think a combination of requirements would be the way to go. Some events requiring completion of prerequisite events, some simply only needing the right car to enter, some events needing pre-qualifying by attaining a benchmark time (which could essentially be a full-lap license test), etc etc. I believe Race Driver 1 had the pre-qualifying laps, and it worked quite well. Anything but the monotonous onslaught of overly familiar events and features is worth looking into.

I agree that it's a chore when you're doing the same events at the same tracks 10+ years after the original game. Whilst PD might view these events as iconic, it's seriously dull to do the same events over and over and over, especially when nothing really changes with regards to the AI.

Yes, I hear that argument a lot by people justifying the game, and I think it is quite lazy on PD's part to still be unable to provide a significant challenge as far as the AI goes. The onus falls on PD to provide a challenge.
 
I think it would be a mistake to take out any of the tracks. I like them all. Definitely cannot lose real world tracks and the city circuits are too pretty to ditch, as well.
 
I would prefer GT6 to have a proper career mode in addition to GT Life. A career mode by which I mean you race a single car (like most real racing series would) in a season, and then you can progressive get higher up the racing series hierarchy. Yes, you are restricted to a single car, but realistically, it's not like GT6 will have 1000+ cars anyway.

I don't think anyone is suggesting this. However, some of the track graphics on the older tracks are a bit dated and should be addressed, however.

Having the exact same events at the exact same tracks needs to change though. It isn't the tracks (although several more definitely need to be added) it's their implementation. All the variations of Cape Ring beside the 7km course got barely any races at all, same with Indianapolis Road Course. It seems like a waste to add good tracks and not use them at all, like Suzuka West in GT4.

However I would not miss the new city circuits, at all. Rome is the only one that is somewhat flowing, and even that has parts that seem to exist solely for causing accidents. Still, no point in removing them for GT6.
 
I would love to see a full career mode in the game, with different elements of sponsorship, team management, spec racing along with car purchasing and building a garage. You could wrap B-Spec into this by allowing you to develop your own teams and recruit and race drivers, but a nice twist would be online B-Spec vs. other player's Bob's. I'd also have an online aspect to career mode, with permanent lobbies full of rated drivers in predetermined car sets or Spec cars, and fixed options appropriate to the driver's achievement levels, so that if you choose, to it can become an endless way to play the game.

However, I don't want to see this career mode as the only option in the game for advancing and purchasing cars, just one way to play the game among others. As an experienced player, I am not really interested in slogging through dozens upon dozens of races I already know I'm going to win, just to be able to afford a new Honda Civic and a few parts to win the next race. Career mode will appeal to the millions of drivers and/or casual players not interested by online racing, but the hardcore guys need a way to progress faster through the game if they so choose.

And I agree with Mr. Simon, fast and easy wins every time, although they can and will look pretty. Toggle on/off for all animations is a must. Combining the Tuning Menu, GT Auto, SSRX and the Skidpad are also a must. You should be able to drop some parts onto a car and go directly to the test track for testing, and right back to the garage without waiting for silly animations or long load times. Combine the New/Used/NCD dealerships into one menu with one load time, so you can seamlessly slip back and forth among them to look at car purchase options. When you buy a car you should have a list of options as to where to go with a minimum of:

A. Go to Tracks
B. Go to SSRX/Skidpad <<<< one facility, one loadtime
C. Main Menu

Full garage available in Practice Mode etc.

PD has to realize most of us are busy and don't want to sit through endless waiting and slow and difficult to navigate menus. Even if we're not busy, all the time we spend in menus and moving around, is time taken away from driving, and managing my team etc., aka the things you buy the game for.

Such an improvement over what we currently have, and so simple to make, yet no one wants to attempt it on consoles.

This should be standard for all racing games.

Edit: I like your idea Johnny, I would love to play that game. I would love to buy my first car and see how far my career can go. Online lobbies with ranks that link to career mode will further enhance the game and give it super longevity.
 
Johnnypenso's concept is very similar to what I've been asking for since way back in February 2005, when I'd played GT4 for all of a couple of days. It made me dream of what could be possible on PS3 with a GT5, and I dreamed big, like he did.

And we do have a terrific model Kaz should be considering: their very own GT Academy, a system which has launched real life racing careers. Other posters have mentioned beginning with karts, and I like that idea too. A Career Mode separate from Arcade and GT Modes which moved you through ever more advanced levels and longer "seasons" into professional racing leagues would simply be epic.

Along with this though, I do think GT Mode should be as path-open and massive as what we had in GT4, at the very least.
 
IMO, I think the biggest problem with GT Mode is Polyphony Digital. All they have to do, all they have to do is simply imitate racing. They need to watch racing, and imitate what they see.

Yes, they can add more events, yes they can add more cars and tracks, but all if it wont matter if they continue to take baby steps when improving GAMEPLAY areas like crash physics and AI. 15 years after GT1 and people are still leaning on AI cars in the corners. They're still using other cars to brake. The AI still rams you. Its still nearly impossible to spin out the AI.

As long as PD continues to overlook the small things, while focusing on "big" things such as graphics, then GT Life will be terrible no matter how they change it up, because the RACING itself will not be fun.

They're still using other cars to brake. The AI still rams you. Its still nearly impossible to spin out the AI.

As long as PD continues to overlook the small things, while focusing on "big" things such as graphics, then GT Life will be terrible no matter how they change it up, because the RACING itself will not be fun.

I find it sad that the fun from the game has been time trials and rarely from A-Spec mode because the A.I. just gets in the way like 99% of the times and not fun at all to play with (A.I. feels the same as GT1). GT Life was nothing but a chore and zero fun, just thought I should point that out.

I've read a few reviews that say GT5 is a great game but more of the same and give it a decent rating.The focus has been put on a very important aspect of the game and that's the driving physics but for some reason went backwards with GT Mode. This is what kills me.



Also, from the votes it seems like most want something new and that's more than enough of a clear sign that PD needs to focus their attention on...

I was playing Ferrari Challenge again last night and whilst the AI are a little too agressive on that game diving for the inside line to block you at least they feel ALIVE. GT5 AI are just sterile, lifeless robots and always have been.
 
Earth, I think your wording is a bit difficult. I see your point as PD prioritisized certain areas of GT5 to have more (pretty useless) features they could advertise and push game sales with, and less concentration on the core gameplay of single (and multi) player. However I think you should not call the racing aspect small (as you do if you see it in contrary to "big" things), because for PD the AI, offline racing, career mode, and all the major things surrounding that should be their main focus and the one big thing.

I really hope they understand that. :indiff:

This. Keep it simple and fast. It shouldn't be hard to implement. All the loading screens and useless time-consuming animations (Car Delivery truck anyone?) in GT5 made me sick.

PC sims in the mid to late nineties on hardware that is a relative dinosaur compared to even PS3 had better AI than GT. Power is no excuse.

I played some F1 2012, first time I'd tried a F1 game. The AI is far superior, you get pursued, overtaken and they make mistakes on occasion. Plus there are different skill levels available with faster or slower AI.

It's taken me a while to just come to terms that GT5 Mode Racing is Time Trials with moving obstacles. There's no racing them, it's either catching and passing or trying to get around them. Track Day maybe but not really "racing".
 
I'm not a computer guy but it seems to me that if GT5 is capable of making best lap replays, and they can project your ghost onto the track with you in practice mode, wouldn't it be possible with better hardware (PS4) to have you create your own AI for a given race? You enter an event, run some laps, set a best lap replay, then you use that replay to scale up or down in speed, and it's the model used to create the AI for your particular race. They'd all race with your racing lines give or take some preprogrammed variance and at whatever speed you tell them too. You'd have a sliding scale of say -5.0 to +5.0 in increments of 0.1, with zero being the best AI using your exact laptime and -0.1 being 0.1 faster on average etc.

If you could do that, any player of any skill level, anywhere in the world, could have a competitive race. Of course the AI's behaviour would have to be dramatically improved but I'm sure it can be done on PS4, given the comittment.
