Which car should be used for the one-make cup?

There will be a test on Tuesday night, and after that a decision will be made either way. It covers all 3 FR cars, so it includes the 330i.

Might be a weird request, but if everyone who attends on Tuesday could run BMWs at Suzuka that would be great...

As I have previously said (maybe not so well) I'm not so sure that dropping the weight by a small amount will improve the straight line speed enough without having to go too far and making it too fast in the bends. I am aware that there is little else you could within your current BTCC regs.

Also Rob sent me his BMW from last year (i think) so will have to have a test and see if it is something about my setup that is wrong before we start testing weight changes.

It could be useful (at times) to have some of the FF's (Alfa/ford) in-particular to have a direct straight line speed comparison

What about counting Suzuka as your dropped scores and picking another car (if rolo allows it?) One that better suits your straight line speed requirements. There are 3 Axelas and 1 SRT4 going spare. I just don't think you're ever gonna get the car you want in the BMW.

I would only normally allow in-season car switches if the car in question is so obviously slow that swapping is the best thing to do. Which the BMW definitely isn't.

Although the Alexia and SRT is faster in a straight line I would really struggle to hold any pace at all in a FF. I am better with a RWD.

Well if you're better with an FR then make more use of the car in the corners for your advantage, I mean if there was a car that met your straight line requirements and was just as good as Bmw in corners then it would dominate every track, making it unfair for everyone using something else,
FF- live with understeer, advantage on straights, lightness to make up for the understeer
Or FR- live with oversteer, advantage in corners, layout to make up for the extra weight
Your saying your better with FR then make good use of its advantages rather then ask for things it doesn't offer here, Bmw did great last season because it has alot of potential, it just needs to be mastered and driven differently

Thanks for putting the points up Rolo. :) Rob and the Chrysler got more points than I expected, with the weight drop coming up it could really help too. 👍

I had a quick practice on Monza yesterday and it didn't go too well, 2:04(ish) is going to be my best I think. So starting at the back on race 1 will make things tough for me. I'm looking forward to the challenge though.

Well done Canyon - that was a good start to the season mate. We're sittin' pretty. :)

I am making as much use as my skill and setup will allow and stiggy please understand that I am not asking to make the BMW the fastest thing on a straight. But think that when it has slip at the start of a straight and by the other end the slip has gone because the car in front has pulled away from you. This is not right! It should be able to at least sit in the slip but not so much that it open up for overtaking on the straight. As for last season up against same regs and cars BMW managed 2nd with Rob and I have already said I have a lot of respect for that but the next one was 8th! behind alfa's honda's and even a Mazda.

Gotta say I agree with this. Very well put.

I knew there would be a disadvantage on the straights in the FR but thought you would have it balanced out well enough, and might still. I haven't had a chance to test rob's BMW from last season yet so can't confirm that we haven't ****ed up somewhere with the gear ratio! I will be opening a room on Suzuka shortly (for a different race) but while I'm there when I have a quiet track I will pop some laps in and see what I get.

And sorry but have to say that I agreed that I didn't know for sure that the ford and alfa would run away with it this season but from the result of race 1 (Suzuka, a FR srtong track) with the best FR being 7th (have also noticed it is the only FR (wonder why that could be?)) makes it feel like I'm saying I don't know what will happen in the F1 and Vettel may not dominate and win again this year! I hope I am proved wrong on my thought there and it is not as easy as I think it will be for them to run away from everything else.

Rob I got to say that you would be very surprised how close our BMW's are on setup! Even the gearbox looks like ours :nervous:

Can anyone online now racing an Alfa of ford add me on PSN and pop in my room for a few mins please?

hurley missed a few races on top of his drop scores to be fair. He should have had maybe 30/40 points more than he did. If he'd have raced at Fuji things would have been quite different. He was dominating it there. And, although he got a penalty for cutting corners a bit too often at Monza last season, he was running comfortably in the midfield a lot of the time. It can be done, in the right hands.

(have also noticed it is the only FR (wonder why that could be?))

Weezy on holiday, hurley at the casino, gedi otherwise elsewhere.

yeah mate I can...if your still online that is...lol

Thanks mate but I am now busy with today's race 👍

Why not meet in rolos lounge ?

Because I am having a race today for a different series that I am attempting to run and today is Suzuka so I thought while I had a quiet track before everyone joined would be a good time to do a few laps in the BMW :)

I did do a few laps in Robs BMW from last season and drag raced Dj in our BMW and the acceleration is much the same :nervous:

Ok, well at least you know mine is just as slow down the straights. Anyway, I was watching the replay of Suzuka before and I noticed;

yours are dj's tachometers are only marked to 9,000rpm, shift light @ 7,000 and rev cut @ 7,750

mine (BMW) is marked to 12,000rpm, shift light @ 7,500 and rev cut @ 8,250

I know I have stage 3 engine tuning so I assume you two don't? Any specific reason why not because I don't think that will be doing you any favours.

Also, without sounding rude, you didn't really drive a very good race at Suzuka, you made a lot of small mistakes clipping grass and getting sideways, and a couple of big ones including a spin. You were up in a relative 5th before that but ended up dropping to 11th.

Hmm good find with the engine tuning , i think that would be the issue probably .
