Hmm, I wonder if they'll pull a bluff and he'll have a mask on underneath. Maybe like thoes Lotus promoters who went around with masks with no face or something. I'll be suprised if they show who it really is, they might put someone daft in the suit for a laugh.

Yeah first thought is definitely a joke/promo stunt.

I think it'd ruin the mythos of The Stig to reveal him, even if we have an idea he's Ben Collins or a few of the others who have portrayed him.

That's a pretty big claim. He could have been there being interviewed, and just felt like bringing his car along.

Very hard to imagine him test driving all those cars when he's still a driver for Ferrari's cars.

Its true He will reveal himself, It was On Jeremy Clarkson's Sun Column yesterday and it says so on the Top Gear website. Personally I think it ruins The mystery that is the stig. Thing is though if they reveal the stig tonight who are they going to replace him with?

Yes I think its a bit of wind up to reel in more viewers, on reading the story it seems like Jeremy is really trying to build up the drama and expectation.

To quote him directly:

while filming the scenes, "hardened, emotionless camera crews said the hair on the back of their neck prickled".

"As a television moment, it's up there with Neil Armstrong walking on the... corpse of JR Ewing,"

Hmmmm we will wait and see. Since the show returned with the three man format it has been going from strength to strength, but of late has perhaps been going a little stale. This maybe just a bit of sensationalism to elevate its slightly flagging image...."up there with Neil Armstrong walking on the moon" eh? We remain to be convinced tonight.

I don't want to sound blunt, but doesn't Top Gear have 22 seasons on the air? And how many of those seasons has the Stig been in?

So how does this gimmick not feel extremely stale to most of you?

not 22 seasons....like i do believe this is season 14 or 15? 15 yeah... and the white stig was there all of them but the first 2.

I just got the number 22 from Wiki; apparently the 15 seasons are just the ones where they started doing hour long shows instead of half an hour long.

And Wiki. (yes, I know) states that the FXX is being reviewed as well as the Evora, which can explain Michael's appearance (or vice versa).

How many times have we covered this on GTPlanet now? Must be the fifth route through.

It's mainly Ben Collins, with other drivers filling in depending on requirements at the time (notably Franck Montagny when the Renault R26 was taken for a Power Lap).

And yes, it was just on. It'll be a weekly gimmick for this series, given that they haven't had SIARPC this week... It'll be RDITRFC.

Edit: At the end, the four are listed with "Special Guest: Michael Schumacher". And Clarkson saying "You know, I don't think Schumacher IS the Stig", lending credence to the gimmick theory.
