Hey Zohsix, I raced in your Forza league for a bit. Good to see you here! Shuffle racing tonight!!

You might be confusing me with someone else, I haven't raced in a Forza league. I have raced with you though last year in the 450pp GT5 league.

Since guys have been picking colours (yeah, there's a U in there) I would like to pick Silver Chrome car with Reflex Spice wheels along with number 26.

Pilmat,

Nice racing sim setup on your Flickr posts!

I also really like your step by step mods on the RC truck and slot cars. Very methodical.

I'd love to join :)

Hey eLove,

We'd love you to join S.N.A.I.L. :)

We run a clean league by enforcing the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and we expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both.

Follow These Steps:
1. I add you to the drivers list as a New S.N.A.I.L.
2. You run the Time Trial.
3. You Private Message my GTPlanet account with your time from the time trial (no Sunday racing until this is completed).
4. I assign you to the appropriate Division, to give you the best racing possible.
5. A PSN friend request will be sent from the appropriate SNAIL_Division1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 account. That is where you race on Sunday night.
6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday :)

The original post has a lot of information regarding the league, commit it to memory ;)

The second post has the current race lineup and is updated weekly.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, post your choices in this thread. To avoid duplication, the currently claimed combinations can be found here.

During the week we run a number of different events feel free to jump in and partake!

Welcome aboard and enjoy :)

PS3 Woes!

I'm getting worried that my PS3 is possibly dying and I don't want to lose my game data. Two times in the last day and a half the system has essentially frozen, then told me it had to fully restore everything (warns that it can take 2-3 hours, takes about 20 minutes for me, so far). :ill:

GT5 is about 50/50 on successfully loading. Getting any reaction from controllers is frustrating and seems to have huge lag problems. :ouch:

Once I have the machine reset (again!), I'm going to backup all my saved data. There are 3 accounts on the machine - the 'home' one, my son's account, and my GT account (Handlebar-Man).

* Do I need to use 3 different memory sticks/data cards to back up all the game data, or can I use my backup 2 terabyte external drive for all 3 accounts?

* Any suggestions on what I can do to help the PS3? Sony's site talks about deleting games or data, resetting some of the system, or rebooting the system. If anyone has suggestions or experience on how to solve this problem, I'm all ears.

I'd love to get some laps in, but at this point, I want to make sure I don't lose all my account data. :scared:

You will need three different usb sticks, as the different profiles will overwrite eachother as for your ps3, if its one of the old "fat" ps3's i would take it apart & clean it(youtube has some vids on this).

Hrmm. Maybe it's about time I clean out my PS3 before I burn out a second one…

Guess I can add to the stack of weekend projects.

If it's ps3 slim just use some compressed air & have an external fan behind it just to be safe. My slim is 2 years old & works like new.

Actually handlebar, if none of your profiles have the same game save data(example, if you & your son dont both have GT5 save data) you should be able to just use your external. But if you do play the same games you'll have to put one profiles save data on the external & one on a usb stick.

I am using 3 labeled sticks. I can run a downloaded game from the store, next I am checking a different disc game. If that works, I will make sure the GT5 disc is clean, or buy a new disc if needed.

I've had my fat 60G for almost six years and it works like the day I got it. I've always used it in the vertical position and never had anything on top of it to block the vents in any way. No external fans or anything like that. The only thing I have done is make sure not to turn it off while the fans are running. I wanted it to regulate it's own temp all the time. I've also left the thing on for days at a time.

It actually sounds like your laser is dying(i had the same thing happen). If you do have a old fat ps3 & cleaning it didnt work, i bought a friends ps3 that had gotten the YLOD & swapped out the disc tray's(its still kicking, gave it to a relative). If you do end up having that problem, just PM me & i cant give you some tips on how to do it.

I went through two of those, lol. Hang on to it, they are getting harder to come by(only made for a couple years i believe & backwards comp.👍)

Mine is 2 years old. This is my first console and GT5 is my first game... It doesn't look fat to me.

Motor storm worked... Trying GT5 again...

GT5 hangs up at the logo, right before the extra stuff briefly appears at the bottom of the screen in white. Even trying to exit the game closes down the PS3.

3 other disc games all worked fine... Off to get a copy at store, I guess.

It is backwards compatiable and that works great becasue my daughter has a few of my old PS2 games and some that she bought that she loves to play. I also have an old PS2 brick from launch that works without issues to this day. It is backwards compatiable as well. I have had to open that one up twice and give it a good cleaning though.

I had an old PS3 (40Gb, I believe) that YLODed on me. Tried to reflow with no luck. It was pretty abrupt and rather sad.

When I went to replace it it was the same week that the slims were coming out. For whatever reason I didn't want a slim. I think I figured that since my first gen fat died I should go with the last rendition of that where hopefully they had worked out the kinks rather than the first gen slim.

Anyway, there were two left at the local Best Buy. I took one home and ran the updates and the thing had an error. It was some unrecoverable error that apparently happens sometimes when updating the firmware, etc. Scary. I took that back same day and got my third PS3. The very last fat one that store ever had.

Since overheating the old PS3 and getting the YLOD, likely from playing PS2 games which were rather hard on the system, I've had my new one set up on a couple of 8 inch long pieces of 1x1 to help the air flow around it. So far so good. I don't think I've even heard the fan turn up as high as it used to when playing PS2 games on the old one.

All this recounting is making me think that I should clean the sucker out, though. We used to have a dog and still have a cat. The thing's probably loaded with hair.

…couldn't be as bad as the time a bird built a nest in the radiator screen of my tractor, though…

I still have the old 40Gb. I'd still like to get that thing running again someday, but my attempts at reflowing it have probably only made that less likely. Fortunately I also still have my PS2 (with HDD and modem)

When cleaning your ps3 i would NOT recommend using compressed gases. They force smaller particles deeper into the electronics causing more problems, use a powerful vacuum instead.
