Well 'now-now-now' is what sells video games. It would be better if PD focused on the features people actual care about now and focus on all of this extra stuff when their game is complete (and GT6 is far FAR from it).
Looks like PD calls it complete on that note. :sly:

Why would PD bother with something like this when almost nobody will use it. Sure, you'll probably have the option to rent one of those 86s to do a lap, but you'll never drive as hard as you do in game so you lap times in reality will always be slower. Plus, with all these camber bugs and whatnot you probably can't replicate the data exact in GT6.

I'm just hoping that something, SOMETHING, comes along with this, a bug fix or a new feature. There's no way they could hold up another update like this and say "we've done nothing about the bugs and promised features that everyone's talking about and have been waiting for a while now, but look at this Data Logger that ~0% of our gamers will use! All that's required is that you live near the selected 3 Japanese race tracks and own a Toyota 86 with $900 tool! We'll add more track and car compatibility in a future update!"

At this point, GT6 feels like the service Kaz was talking about, a game with an endless support timeline because it feels like it's going to take forever until something major happens to the game.

/rant and apologies for a long post

*Brings in popcorn, chips, pop and chairs to celebrate PD's update 1.06 of failure* That's how excited I am. This is going to be pure gold when PD fails again, haha, and all that rage towards them. Watch none of the stuff people are concerned with aren't addressed and features they want aren't added in this update. :D

So so excited!

. Me too so excited ;)!

You guys should do what I do...Assetto Corsa,Game Stock Car,PCars...all great way to get your "Motorsport Fix"
I soooo want pCARS. Just waiting for it to release this year, since my laptop is pretty weak to run its builds. Haha. :)

I feel I should reiterate something as many people are conflating three distinct things.

Data Logger - analyses GT6 data to provide a ghost replay and a throttle/brake/speed trace. Requires: PS3, GT6, compatible data

GPS Visualiser - as above, but capable of receiving data from a compatible external source. Requires: PS3, GT6, compatible data

Sports Drive Logger - a telemetry recording box marketed by Toyota capable of exporting data. Requires: Toyota GT86, live in Japan.

You don't need a new car to use the Data Logger or GPS Visualiser. You - if you haven't taken GT6 back to the shop yet - already own everything you need to use them. GT6 owners shouldn't be kicking off.

Toyota buyers would be justified though. "What, we need to spend another £500 on this box and then another £200 on an old tech console and some poxy game just to see our lap on a TV?"

Do you imagine that you are doing the communication pd job for free .... ???!!!!!

PD don't have a communication department. Communication is handled by their publisher, SCEI.

And no. It's all pretty clear in the announcement SCEI made.

IMO maybe they don't have a communication department because it will another cost and also because they are using you Gtplanet. But this is off topic sorry!

They don't have a comms department because everyone at PD* makes the game and their 'owners' handle all communications, PR, marketing and press.

We're at the same point in the food chain as any other games news site - we all get the same press releases from SCE though we typically deal with SCEE and SCEA, not SCEI. In this instance we haven't had a press release - and notice that the Europe and North America official sites don't carry this news - but the above information is pretty clear from it. I just don't know where people get the impression you have to buy a £30k car in Japan to use GT6's Data Logger or the GPS Visualiser.

*I imagine there's a guy in each department who also has departmental comms responsibility and a small team that have to talk to SCEI, but only Yamauchi speaks from PD to the outside world. And he only does so at SCEI events with SCEI handlers and his words are carefully edited for SCEI press releases

If 1.06 contains *nothing* (and it will) can we get a separate "crying and whining" thread only for that ?

Y'know to streamline the flow of rage and disappointment. :D

It truly may be the most useless update in history of gaming - it deserves a spot.

I say Kaz went ku-ku. Happens in music and movies - after a while a good artist release the most crappy album or movie ever made - the kind of sound that curl your eyebrows. Kaz may be in similar state of mind.

The moon missions were the first indication of that.

This is correct as far as I can understand, but use of GPS Visualiser will still be extremely limited to begin with, whether it's us driving a car personally to get the data or otherwise. Even if someone else does upload the data it's still restricted to one or two cars to start with and three tracks. It'll be quite some time before someone takes any car, on any real track, and uploads the data to the internet for us to use.

It'll be even more limited to start with - the Sports Drive box won't even be out for another two months

Unless there's some pre-release data bundle from Toyota (or Denso, Gazoo, SCEI or whomever) it'll have zero function until June 2nd.

While you're right, as it stands right now there's a severely limited amount of sources to get compatible data from. Namely the half dozen people with a GT86 and the tool who live near the tracks. We rely on them to generate the data and upload it to the internet before we can even make use of it.

It's a fairly long chain of events, some of which are pretty unlikely, that are required for Joe McSchmo to make use of either the Data Logger or the GPS Visualiser. Unless PD/Toyota/Nissan dump some data out onto the web, which would be nice.

I expect the hacking of the Data Logger and GPS Visualiser formats to begin more or less immediately, because otherwise they're largely useless. Technically, they have uses. Practically, I think people will struggle to find anything fun to do with them. At least until the formats are hacked and people can start making their own time trials, course guides and whatever else.

I think the feature can only work, if PD ask racing drivers to collect data and if PD makes a programm external or within GT6 to share the data. Schulze Motorsport is currently racing at the 6 hours nurburgring in germany. Do we know when the nurburgring will be available or if they are collection data?

Well, none in fact. Not until June 2nd at any rate - but @Samus and I just chatted about that above.

And yes, I agree - it makes far more sense if manufacturer press departments (Toyota and Nissan first, Chevrolet shortly after) start shoving out the data as part of their PR push.

As much as PD make strange decisions left right and centre you have to assume there is a reason it's coming now, rather than in late May/June when it'd make more sense.

Unless the plan was to release something else in April, as it almost certainly was for February and March. Possibly they've had the Data Logger/Visualiser done for some time, and have been holding it for the Toyota Logger release, as would be sensible.

Now they're caught short. They're aware that the community is turning against them, they need to throw something out, anything. The Data Logger/Visualiser can't be used even for a couple of months, but it shows the fans that they're still working hard.

I seriously hope that's not the logic. If there's no data/gameplay released alongside the Data Logger/Visualiser, I'd have to assume it was though. It would seem pointless to release it if it can't be used for anything, unless the release itself is the important thing, not the feature.

I think pd are working hard on GT7 prologue... and that get's me excited. I'm buying a ps4 when that hits. We all know there standards look horrible but pds premium cars are the best in the business, down to the coil springs. I'm ready for better graphics i don't know about you guys but pd don't owe me ****, i got my moneys worth out of GT6 with the badboy G27 six speed. They need to let last gen go it's winding down.

Maybe you should read the news before having a tantrum.

https://www.gtplanet.net/more-gt6-data-logger-details-price-track-compatibility/

Three Japanese tracks are supported at launch, but more tracks both in the U.S. and in Europe will be added.

Sweet Jesus, multiple giant rants because you didn't bother to do your research...

Sigh, another one. Ignored the question they quoted and labeled me as someone with a tantrum. That's what happens when you don't have an answer. Yes I can read just fine, just a little slow at it. Now if you did your research you'd would be able to answer the question in the quoted post: Who is suppose to use the feature: you or race car drivers? Let me make sure I'm clear here, the feature = GPS Visualiser NOT Data Logger.

If there wasn't a mention of you (the public) using it then you'd be 100% right, end of discussion. But alas it doesn't. That's my point and I'm sure many others. I sure hope they don't take the same route with say Course Maker.

Seriously. 👍 People want now-now-now, yet one of the most unique things to a video game takes its first step and it's "Something we don't need."

Even if it's exclusive to where the dev's home country is right now, look how it evolves and it expands in the future. This is how things move forward. It doesn't need to make a direct impact immediately.

Getting real tired of reading every thread becoming a complain-fest.

Can you point me to the part I said we don't need this ever? I'm pretty sure it was more like "Something we don't need right now". If your going to quote me, quote the WHOLE quote. There's no complaining here from me, just trying to make out the logic of some people. Release a feature so few can use (I'm not speaking about the Data Logger), over features most liked over at the Suggestion Section.

I'm sorry to those 10 people who liked my posts "tantrums". You are clearly just as wrong as I am, unlike all 3 who liked theirs. Enjoy using the Visualiser you can't use until at least June 2nd, you know if you can read the news before resorting to name calling. I don't see any mention of any other way to gather this GPS data without this car or option. Do you?
