I don't have any siku's myself but from what I've read and the photos I've seen I'd say the Kyosho's are much better detailed when looked at up close and the finish of them is pretty much faultless.

The only real complaint I would have is that with the tires being made of rubber they are not perfectly round when on the wheel and as such the car does roll straight but even on a flat surface its as though its driving along rough carpet.

Also on another note I wouldn't advise playing rough with these (why you would I'm not sure) as they look not exactly fragile but if you were to drop one of these skylines I'm sure the splitter, wing or other would come off.

Certainly going to be getting more of these soon though they are very impressively detailed for the scale they are in.

Yeah after looking at some pictures they look fantastic!
But you should look at some sikus some time. The new models look great. Especially the BMW 5 series.

I just got a lot of five 1:43 Kyosho Skylines at e-bay for like 25 dollars. I could not believe myself. Pictures... as soon as they arrive. In the meanwhile, congrats on the little jewels. How much?

Nice, congrats to you as well thats an absolute steal. My purchases were rather expensive though, £12.50 per car and a further £13 on EMS shipping, Next time I'm going to purchase more at once as it works much more economically when it comes to the shipping, I have to say I'm amazed that such small cars can be so detailed. Definitely going to be getting some more and it would be nice if I could find somewhere better to buy them from than ebay.

Fantastic!! Well there is this art shop nearby where I'm going to buy a miniature grass... But I'm not really sure how to make an asphalt... Also the armco is another story.

Just a suggestion how I would do it if I wanted to, take a piece of wood in the shape of the part of the track you would like to replicate, then rub it in on one side with glue ( evenly spread, same thickness ) and then sprinkle sand across it.
Again try to spread it somewhat evenly across the piece of wood, wait a couple of minutes and just shake off the ( waste ) sand and hopefully you're left with an even grainy texture which you can paint in asphalt grey using acrylic paint or whatever.
For the armco I suggest looking at waste plastic package material ( food packages, etc. ) and focus on the long edges of those packages.
Sometimes waste material unintentionally supplies shapes you're looking for when creating something and with a little imagination, manipulation and some paint you'll be surprised what it can supply for free.;)

Here is my latest. Might only be a cheap decal job. But i think its sweet as.

Amazing detail for such small models!
For larger orders you may find better deals at modelissimo.

You could also get some sand paper...pick a grade that will look similar to the tarmac you want and mold them to the base. Cotton balls painted green also work well for bushes and Tree tops.

I just realized I have a camera and can take photos of my HW cars at home! I'm gonna have to get 'em out!

Thank you for the link its a great help, unfortunately most of the items I wish to add to my collection they don't have and when it work it out it's a similar price to what I've been paying in japan (especially since I found a cheaper seller now). If I do however decide to buy those models I'll definitely check it out.

oh got damn that IS bloody expensive. Yeah, I know how that is. When I started in e-bay I also bought car by car, but I realized shipping costs were eating me alive. So I started buying medium-sized and big lots of loose or carded cars and made it all worth the money, because the ones I did not like or already had I sold to the many fellow collectors I know, some of the times even making a small profit out of it... which of course went to more diecast. It's a freaking vice.

EDIT: Want detail? Try Greenlight.

I've noticed the axle has unclipped from the chassis on a car I have. Just wondering, is there a way to re-clip it without removing the top half of the car?

Thanks

It will be a lot easier removing it, but really, if it is not anything unreplaceable, just pick up another and save yourself the hassle. Or pick up another and do open that one, then swap wheels and generally customize it.

Still pretty jealous of the finds people have made in this thread! There's absolutely nowhere near me that sells Hotwheels. Even the local model shop doesn't have them, it concentrates instead on Minichamps and Solido and all those ones that cost a fortune... I remember the days I could get a Minichamps 1:43 for about £15 (I bought my 1:43 Minichamps McLaren F1 model for £10...), now you're lucky to pay less than £25 :indiff:

Anyway, I went to a local flea market the other day and picked up four new cars for £2. Much more like it. I've got into American cars recently so they're all of that nature.

Here's my little American 1:64 collection. 55 GTO, 70 GTO, Chevy pickup, Camaro concept and a "Swoop Coupe". The 55 GTO I've had for a while.

I also bought a Tesla a while ago:

Anyone have any info on the shiny Chevy? It really caught my eye as I was rooting through the piles of cars so that's why I bought it, but I don't know if it's anything special or not.

Also, after reading about Cano's rare purchase I'm tempted to look for more unusual stuff too as well as just recognisable cars.

Nice collection. Have you looked at supermarkets? In Australia they sell hotwheels cars. Even department stores. As for your chrome Chevy, it is the Chevy 1500.

http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Chevy_1500

Considering the wheels it has on it I'm guessing it is a 1996 first edition. Don't think it is anything too special but it seems to be in good condition and a nice looking car so worth keeping.

You got those crome cars in a five pack. Not sure when, but I picked one up in the pack there were also:
Silver bullet

57' chevy

Camaro-Z28(no picture sorry)

And another that doesn't have the name on the base. I shamelessly painted over it with a putrid yellow when I was younger

Nice one, thanks for the ID on the Chevy. Definitely keeping it, just because it looks cool :P

Thanks Apokalipse too for the further info 👍

Had no luck in supermarkets though. One of the ones nearby had a bin full of Hotwheels or similar a while ago but it's gone now. The only other things they have are an un-named range of those scale cars, with models of things like a Type 2 VW Camper van, a Crown Vic taxi, the Jag XK180 concept car, a London Taxi, and a few others. I keep meaning to pick them up when I go along but always forget.

But yeah, can't find actual Hotwheels anywhere. It's odd.

It’s not as much as looking for odd cars as to know what is rare and what not. I myself don’t like the odd, weird cars that Hot Wheels usually release (like my Swingin’ Wing), but I do know what is rare or not. Heck, I was not going to pass up such a rare car because it’s so ugly… even if it was a normal HK or US redline I would have picked it up for that price. If you do some homework and more or less frequent that flea market you talked about you could end up with some pretty relevant pieces. Any questions, just shoot (:

Work has officially started on the GT Academy 370Z demo car. I will post progress pictures tonight. Just gotta find clear pictures of the car so I can get the logos off the side.

Hope that helps

Thanks. I was hoping to just take that right off the car and adjust it a bit in photoshop, but it looks like I may need to do it from scratch. Wonder if there's a way I can do those brakes...

Last week I was in hungary and I got three matchbox cars.

A nice shelby GT500

I'd also like to ask all of you, where you store you're cars? I take old boxes and make compartments in them like this.
boxes2.jpg

normal box

boxes3.jpg

or is it?

I also made a couple boxes for only one car. They take more time to make. The end that opens is green (if that wasn't obvious enough)

So where do you guys store your cars?

I own three separate (made by Hot Wheels) car boxes to store my cars. One holds 30 and the other two hold over 100 each.

ahem...

blargh. I sure dont like it, but it's the only way to store them all. You can only see one layer, under that are three more that look just like that. The box used to contain a flexable table that my uncle bought, and I kept the box. It fits nicely under my bed and holds most of my collection... tough these last two years my collection has grown a lot. A LOT. And so, that enormous box is literally, and I MEAN literally overflowing with cars... so I have had to take other measures... Intercookie to anyone who can find all the treasure hunts -and any other rare or extraordinary piece- in above picture.

I have had to split the cars that do not fit in the enormous box any more into smaller boxes, like...

julioregalado.jpg

both of those are already chock-full and incapable of closing completely, along with about... what? five more. And I am currently stuffing a new one with this week's finds... heck, only today I picked up 15 and in the past week I got another ten or so... most of them vintage and costly. I have to stop this nonsense.

and another old pic just because I really like it, back from when a local supermarket had them new Matchboxes at like .60 usd a piece. Matchbox spree ensued. all of these also rest in boxes. The two green T2 buses and the motorhome TH found new homes.

EDIT: Heck, I didn't even remember I had the Mazda 2...

Ok, this is where I stopped tonight on the GT Academy demo car. Got it stripped (still a little bit of paint left) and got the holes drilled and the wing mounted. Unfortunately the wing is not accurate to the demo car, but it's all I could find that would fit.

no, dont. You'll destroy the Zamac. At least you'll make it even more porous. Find a metal-teeth brush and gently take the remaining paint away with it, and before you even start painting it wash it (if you took the paint out with paint reover or thinner or something like that) with abundant soap water.
