2009 Singapore Grand Prix

The new Brawn livery is awesome. I never really liked their white and yellow...

Certainly Brawn has the most beautiful car on the grid, even my mom admitted it :D McLaren has been doing a fantastic job with their chromy livery since 2006 but still it doesn't look really good for me... BMW white, blue and little bit of red is one of the most coolest colour for a race car... Ferrari all red is just classic!!! Toyota colour is cool too, with white and red... Force India's livery is an Indian flag colours... For me, the ugliest livery on the grid has to be the Renault...

*Note that these are just my opinion...

Still looks white and yellow to me 💡

A bit better quality version, might want to put it in the first post, or better yet, embed it;)

I think we've all seen the track before. Don't think it's that much of a deal.

On to F1 news.
A threat of thunderstorms in the region for the rest of the weekend.
You think they'll race or leave it as is until it's too much for them.

, Grosjean has just done a Piquet ( only difference is Grosjean went into the wall nose first ) in First Practice and there is still no crane there so the session has been red flaged.:banghead:

Just saw that - came here to post... it's metres away from where Piquet crashed!

EDIT:

1144: "Sorry guys, I lost the car in Turn 17," says Romain Grosjean. Yes, we saw that. Disbelieving looks in the Renault paddock that scream "seriously, that corner??". By the way, there isn't room to put a permanent crane at that point, which basically means that we'll be looking at a safety car - again - should the same thing happen in the race. Cue lots of chin-stroking.

His engineer had a slight smile and a little shake of the head when Grosjean told him what he'd done on the radio. :)

Still ING colours though?
Most of those colours are actually painted directly onto the monocoque. Given that ING withdrew overnight, Renault can hardly be expected to change their colours like that. In fact, I doubt they'll repaint any of their cars between now and season's end. It would just cost too much for too little benefit.

Well kind of exiting first practice session...i actually enjoied watching it!!...lol..

Had to laugh about the Grosjean accident a lot...Dejavu??...hahaha..

What a dust on the track!lots of drivers sliding all over the place, especially Alonso and Webber...they were great to watch!!....

For the rest nothing really special...everybody doing various tests etc etc etc...will see if the second session will bring the field closer together in terms of laptimes, too early to say whos fast and whos not...

spyrrari.

This is so funny

I think that corner should be given a name. The "Renault" corner, or even the "Piquet" corner :D

Ahaha!!! Better ''Renault'' corner because both Renault drivers crashed at the same place!!! Same car too which is the second car for the team :P

Anyway, great job by everyone and I'm very satisfied with the perfromance of Kubica and great show too by the Renault of Alonso despite the crash of Romain 👍 Also for topping the time sheet for Barrichello :D

Or how about Briatore corner or even Symonds corner?

Hmmm... Good suggestion 👍 But yeah Briatore is the head of everything so I think it's even more suitable for the corner to be named ''Briatore'' :) ''Renault'' could still be a good name too....

I actually like Renault's colours, they look a lot like their cars in the 80's.

And I think that corner is quickly becoming of one the most infamous in the season. Who said new tracks don't have personality?

Just finished watching FP2 on Speed :) I must say I really enjoyed watching Fernando's onboards over anything else  His car control is absolutely INCREDIBLE...

 to Alonso...fantastic driving there in the 2nd session!!a joy to watch...

good to see that Fisi got a desent laptime in at the final stage of the session...👍

EDIT:tree'd by timeattack...lol

im surprised vettle did so many laps in FP2 and set the fastest time with only having a few used engines to use and still 4 races to go. would really think they would be keeping him in the pits for most of friday nut guess they got other plans

Looks like Alonso's superior ability really shines in Singapore. Last year even with the whole thing that happened he drive wonderfully.

Yea, his driving ability really seems to shine on this particular track layout and surface. From watching onboard footage from FP2, you could tell Alonso was doing a lot of the steering/rotation of the car using amazing throttle control, in order to get the car set-up for the next corner as quickly as possible. I really didn't see any others out there pushing like he was...and if they were, it was probably costing them time by overpushing in the wrong area. He would have been much closer to Vettel's time had it not been for a slight bobble through the last two turns...which is really saying something considering he's stuck in that pig (r29)

As far as Vettel pushing hard on the old engine. I'd imagine RBR has the mind set of going all or nothing at this point. If they don't push to get a good starting position (especially @ Singapore) their title hopes could pretty much be over. IMO, if RBR tries to play things overly safe at this point in the game they can kiss their WDC/WCC goodbye.

Fernando has always enjoyed an understeer happy F1 car...And controlling the pitch with the throttle/brakes. It's how he finds speed and confidence in the machine. It's not enjoyable to watch, but oh so very interesting...as it's a very un-natural driving style in my opinion.

After watching P2 on Speed I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me.

Why are some of the cars not running rear wheel spats? I noticed the Brawn and Williams cars aren't running them. Does it have something to do with the brake temperature or aerodynamic reasons? I thought the spats were attached to improve aero efficiency? The Force India cars I've noticed are running them. I don't know about other teams as I'm watching it from my DVR and am only 10 minutes into P2.

It reminds me of how good the cars would look without spats on the front or rear rims.

I guess I've just gotten used to seeing them on the cars...

Brake temperatures, if you saw FP1 you would have seen Grosjean's brakes smoking almost instantly from stopping. This circuit is the highest for aerodynamics and very taxing on brakes with all those corners.

Well thanks for the quick response.

We don't get FP1 televised here in the states, that I know of at least. Just FP2, Quali and Race.

Why do they keep them on the front of the car though? The fronts have better ducting for cooling so they need to keep temperature in the brakes with the front spats?

Hmm, well I guess many of the drivers prefer a more rearward brake bias, so the temperature of the front brakes isn't so much of a worry and is outweighed by the aerodynamic benefit of the covers (they do give a significant aero advantage).
Also the front brakes probably get a little more air being less obscured compared to the rears.

But the wheel covers aren't used to keep brake temperature, they are purely aerodynamic pieces.

I see, well thanks for helping clear that up. 👍

I can't recall any other races this year except for in Australia where all the cars were not running spats front and rear.
