Cracking finish the the Moto2 race. Nice to see Redding stick it to Marquez with an aggressive overtake! Pity though that Luthi had an off day, but what is means is a tight race on the points ladder.

Great racing, well done Redding!

According to Matt Roberts, Marquez has signed for Repsol Honda. I reckon it'll be like Simoncelli, Gresini team with a factory bike.

Well done to Cal, bust up ankle and all and he battled for the result that he got. nice one.

Simply awe-inspiring job by Cal, shows us that he'd be worthy of a factory seat, as if we ever doubted that.

20 laps, 14 positions difference from the start to the finish.

A do-or-die overtaking move on Nicky Hayden on one of the fastest corner on the track on the last lap.

In a sprained ankle.

That's just super-awesome!

Lorenzo did win but once he got past Stoner (who I think lost his grip as he was running quite ragged at times) it was game over there and then. Pedrosa (i think) nearly pipped Stoner to the line too, just missed out.

Race wise, it wasn't anything impressive, some overtaking moves were made but nothing eye-opening. Apart from Cal being a steam train and just overtaking people left and right.

I seriously thought he lost the position on the last lap when he went wide on the exit of Vale. Great (and clean) racing.:)

Great performance by Cal to get 6th. He's really been able to show his capabilities more since the 1000's started racing in anger.👍

More evidence supporting Marquez joining the works Honda team.

Marquez may not be the most popular chap in the MotoGP world, but like him or loathe him, no one can deny that he is immensely talented. I would be happy to see him step up to Honda next year as he has truly earned it. If he can be a frontrunner from the start in MotoGP, then he's just what the series needs. I'm a big fan of Lorenzo (and Marquez), and let's face it, without serious competition, Lorenzo's going to walk the next few seasons. Pedrosa is good on his day, but is not consistent enough to take the fight to Lorenzo. Hopefully, Marquez can be the guy.

He needs to be there before someone else grab his ride. I agree 100% that the rookie rule really sounds stupid and I support him to be in the Honda team as soon as possible. He has a talent, obviously so why wait? We need to get that guy on.

The rookie rule was stupid anyway
I wouldn't say it was stupid - it was clearly designed to stop factory teams from pinching all of the younger, talented riders as soon as they were ready for MotoGP, forcing privateers to look to older, more experiencd and more expensive riders just to make the grid, which might be difficult with a limited budget.

I think the main problem with the rule is that for a satellite team, taking on a talented young rider with big backing can be a double-edged sword: it helps to attract big-name sponsors and money, but also puts them in a situation where they have to act as a gap year for said rider, and when they go to a factory team, all the sponsors and money goes with them, leaving the satellite team to deal with the aftermath.

Here's an excerpt from an MCN article:
HRC boss Livio Suppo said: “This has nothing to do with Casey’s decision to retire but we totally understand that for Dorna the rookie rule is an interesting one. From a manufacturers point of view, and not only for Honda, the situation is totally the opposite.

"With this rule in place if you like a young rider then you must support him in a satellite team and this means a cost of the salary or the bike, which is on top of running the two factory bikes. This means an increase in costs in a situation where everybody is trying to reduce the costs.

"I think we should still think more about this and I hope it is re-considered. Not because of Marc but what happened in the past with Marco and Ben wouldn’t be possible to do in the current economic situation.

"It doesn’t matter if you have three factory riders in different colours, what matters is who is paying the bill.”

MCN understands Honda satellite team bosses Lucio Cecchinello and Fausto Gresini now support the scrapping of the rookie rule.

Both fear if they have to accommodate Marquez for what would be just one season, it would hurt their long-term future.

Cecchinello told MCN: “If Marquez is on the wing of Honda and Repsol and he has to go, say to Gresini next year and then the factory team in 2014, does Fausto have to cut all his sponsors and supporters after many years to take Marquez for one year and then do what in the future?

"This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. This needs to be considered in light of the rookie rule."

I know it's looking a bit far up the road, but Vinales vs Marquez would be great. Vinales looks like a good bet for the Moto3 title this year and will surely move to Moto2 next year. If he takes to that as quickly as he did 125s last year....

I've actually seen Vinales use his brain in the past 2 years, which is something we rarely saw from Marquez, so I definitely agree with you that Maverick has bucket loads of talent and will be a star of Moto gp in the future.

Marquez will learn to settle down, in the same way that Simoncelli learnt to cool his riding style. But in saying that, I was a fan of simoncelli's aggressive riding style. Gave the motogp a little excitement over the usual procession that it is.

Ben Spies on top in practice. This is probably his best track and needs a great result. The pressure really is on him. If he can, if I dare say, win Saturday, and maybe win again at Indianapolis along with more consistent finishes at the other tracks I think he can keep his factory ride.

In many ways I can understand Casey Stoner's frustrations. I wish there were more competitive bikes in MotoGP. Right now there is only 4 bikes capable of winning outside unusual circumstances, both the factory Hondas and Yamahas. I would like to see Honda go back to 3 bikes and Yamah as well. That wold allow Crutchlow to get a factory ride without putting a talent like Spies on a 2nd tier ride.

I believe there is a rule limiting a team to 2 riders. The current rumour is Cal to Ducati and Rossi moving away, but to where is undecided.

"Effective 01 January 2013:

Rookie riders will be permitted to ride for a factory team.

In the MotoGP class, manufacturers are restricted to two direct entries per manufacturer and may provide material for a maximum of two entries per manufacturer operated by Independent teams. This results in two factory and two satellite machines.

Fixed that for you ;)

Luthi down in 10th - he need to pick up his form and soon. With Iannone up on the front row though, it should be a good race!

Yup. And them rules are really being "fixed"...

And the news of a new GP (somewhere in south america, didn't memorize where)? That will mean no more "4 iberian races". Which reads "screw Portugal still keep 3 in Spain". And actually add another Spanish speaking race. Or, it's just me and my short temper
