Tom
I thought BMW and Mercedes were interested in Senna and Alguersuari respectively? I may be wrong though.

Algueruarsi is 'linked' with the last seat at BMW according to Touringcartimes - sounds like it might be announced in January maybe, and Senna tested the Mercedes DTM car a few weeks back.

Mercedes need to get their act together, they needs some quality drivers in their line-up badly.

I thought I read somewhere that Ralf Schumacher is retiring as well. I cant seem to find it though, so it must have been only rumors.

Alex Zanardi had a BMW test a while back didn't he? Or was that just a publicity event?

Probably read it on my wish list! But alas, I haven't seen anything about him quitting either.

I think 4 drivers have tested for BMW recently, and whilst Zanardi did get to drive the DTM car at the Nürburgring as part of BMW M's 40th Anniversary, I don't think he is in the running for a seat.

TouringCarTimes seem to think Jaime Alguersuari will get the last BMW seat, I think Bruno Senna will be in a Mercedes for 2013 too.

I'd guess in both cases they are waiting to see if they can get an F1 drive, with DTM being the second option.

Personally, and I know this won't happen, but I always thought Nick Heidfeld would be a good fit for the BMW DTM squad.

Speculation going around that Timo Glock is off to DTM.

How would that work, he's still under contract to Marussia for another year, isn't he?

Some wishfull thinking here, but if that were true Marussia could take Wickens for their second seat, and get an engine deal from Mercedes in 2014 in return. Then they could finally beat Caterham, and score some points!

Timo Glock (via @SportBild) "I have experienced 3 great years with Marussia. We part in friendship. I want to take on new challenges"

Looks like BMW DTM drive in works.

If it's DTM it's Mercedes, BMW is full as far as I remember.

Marussia need two drivers now don't they?

BMW is not officially full, the 8th seat has yet to be officially announced, but has been strongly linked with Jaime Alguersuari. The recent news regarding Maxime Martin relates to a development driver seat.

Kubica was 0.5 seconds quicker than Gary Paffett in testing... Robert is blindingly quick in anything he goes in.

Not true, he was actually a tenth slower ( http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/...encia-ein-zehntel-hinter-paffett-6539967.html , put it in google translate for English), still incredible on the best driver in DTM of last year although the mixed conditions mean the track may have been quicker when Robert was on the track or vice versa.

I speak German, I quite enjoyed the advertisements. I didn't expect the ending of the German commercial the way I expect the ending of the Canadian ones.

Anyways, to the actual topic of conversation, one tenth of a second after the rain soaked beginning of the session isn't bad. Driving a not-well-known (i.e., new, something Kubica hadn't acclimatized to,) car on a dry circuit's one thing. Driving one in the wet, it's a lot harder of a thing.

Even Kubica says (according to the translator) "es wird langsam immer besser, aber natürlich auf der Zeit." [It's getting always slowly better, but naturally on time." (not meaning "punctually" on time, meaning "following a schedule, of time.")

So, even Kubica is saying that he has more to get from the car. One tenth, maybe, or more.

And Mathias Ekström says "After his rally crash, naturally, I wish him the luck that he can once again race in professional racing series." [Again, translated from German by me]

And this:

Article
"Mein erster Testtag in einem DTM-Auto hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht und ich habe viel über die Rennserie und das Auto gelernt. Natürlich wäre ich lieber in einem Formel 1-Renner gefahren. Aber ich muss einen Schritt nach dem anderen machen und hoffen, dass ich eines Tages wieder die Möglichkeit bekomme, in einem F1-Auto zu sitzen."

"My first testing day in a DTM-car was a lot of fun to me, and I have learned much about the raceseries and the car. Naturally, I would have rather driven in the Formula 1-Racer. But I must make one step [indirect translation] after the other, and hope, that I can someday get the possibility, to sit in an F1 car."

I don't think there's any doubt Kubica is fast enough to be competitive in the DTM, but that's only half the equation. I don't even think his injuries would be much of a problem (though I'm not a doctor!), but there's lots of guys who are quick enough to win in the DTM but don't.

Personally, I'd like to see him do well and succeed at something, I met him once, a few races before he got JV's BMW Sauber seat and he was a nice guy... but my loyalty is always going to be to the BMW teams and drivers, so in that respect If he came to the DTM as 'the enemy' then I wouldn't like it so much!

I'm quite happy that BMW signed Glock, but if Kubica had been on the cards for a BMW seat that would probably have been my preference.

I'm most intrigued by the calendar. I can't wait to see some more of this Moscow Raceway. I saw an FIA GT1 race there, in pouring rain, and thought "a majority of this track is boring, but, that one corner strangely intrigues me."

Among the usual DTM tracks, it should be a treat, I guess.

Priaulx moves away RBM, the team with which he won his Touring car titles, and into RMG as Tomczyk's team mate. Joey Hand moves from RMG in to RBM to replace him.

I wonder why they did this?

Anyway, that's BMW's line up officially confirmed.

Hope Farfus continues his good form from the end of last year and that Priaulx can come good this year 👍
