Leesburg, I'm hardly ever home with my work schedule, but we should get together for sure.

Oh wow. So that's only 10 minutes from the place I race at! If you wanna keep talking about it, feel free to keep it to PM so the thread stays on topic.

Same here. Sector one is killing me. All I need is one good pass through there and the 17.3 mark can happen. 👍

I'm still fretting it at my 17.655. I feel safe but there's still that question in the back of your head of if you could still get knocked out especially when you know where you screwed up and lost time on your fastest lap. I lost a tenth in S1 and slaughtered Copse losing about 2 tenths there alone.

Good to know I'm not alone there, but that's my worry as well. My current fast lap I was down .4 in the first sector on my personal best. I haven't figured it out but my theoretical fast time is somewhere in the 16's. This perhaps goes to show that putting together that one golden lap is close to impossible for mortals.

Gonna try something interesting tonight. I will log my lap times and post them here. Might run better knowing everyone will see my constant fails mixed in with the few good laps.

Wow I guess that 1/20th of a second improvement last night made a pretty big difference, I would have dropped 3 spots today otherwise! It's getting tight now! :D

This is the first year I have seriously taken a try at gt academy. I'm quick, but not one of the really fast guys on here, probably middle of the pack compared to many on this site. I haven't posted much at all, but have been following the academy threads very regularly. I think I did a few days, and wanted to get my times down, as time trials and lap times against myself are one of the things I enjoy most with gt, and my goal was to break into the teens and get it the top 1%. Last week when I was a around 2:20.5 I decided to try and take a more serious shot at it. I was on business away from home and couldn't do anything for a few days, but watched more videos of fast laps and some of tidgneys great videos, and was really hoping that after studying some fast laps over and over I would see a quicker improvement in times. Well once I got back on it, I did the next two days without any improvements, or went down to 2:20.09 and then it was about two days of nothing, and it was doing about 3 hours each day. Was getting frustrating. I went back to working on sectors (I have gone back and forth between sectors and the full lap regularly) and then started dropping again. I did my first 2:19.95 then the immediate lap after did a 2:19.51, I was very pleased with that. Unfortunately I had lost my Internet connection, and trying to log back into psn my ps3 froze. I've since gotten a 2:19.58, putting me in the high two hundreds in the us and in the top one percent. I think I have started to burn out, or well I definitely have on some level. I am okay with the time and ranking I suppose. It's been fun. Anyways I just thought I would share my experience with you guys.

On a fun side note, the last three weeks I have been traveling for business and the first week I drove, packed up the wheel and modified TV tray stand and got a used ps3 to travel with (for what will end up being under $50!) and was setup in the hotel all week. Then couldn't the second week, and now this last week I wanted to race in my league and mostly do gt academy, so I flew and took my wheel and ps3. Setup the wheel on an ironing board, not to sturdy but it worked. I will see if I can upload the picture of it. Anyways I'm at the airport and was browsing gtplanet and watching academy videos and just thought I'd share. Wow this got long/out of control, don't ban me!

Dropped 4 spots in 24 hours. Well shoot...guess I might have to get on it. If it's gonna be like that I'll be bubble boy on Sunday.

Thank you for sharing Slalom! 👍

Love the dedication! Love the ironing board! 👍

And you pretty much hit the nail on the head when you said: "it's been fun"
That's the absolute best and most important part! 👍

Car is not trailbraking at all. I haven't been ahead of my 37.920 S1 once. :dunce:

The good news is that you have a low 18 second race pace!

I find that I have good and bad days ... Sometimes the car turns as I anticipate and other days I'm not on my game.

All you need to do is make it to the finals and your race craft will see you thru to Silverstone.

This. Even if you don't do well on the hotlap, just brush up on your racing and youll be fine. The hotlaps are the hardest part.

That seems to be around my pace too, high 17s low 18s. I too know how well you can race, and wouldn't be surprised to see you at Silverstone. :)

Yup consistency is key for moving on to Silverstone. I can run consistent low 18's and high 17's but for some reason I couldn't drop below a 17.9 for the hour or two I was on today. Called it quits cause it was making me mad.

Oh and taking people out apparently works too at finals if you can't be consistent lol. Myself and Daryl got the short end of the stick there last year though that's for sure. So just plan on staying out front...if you can catch me ;)

Glad to see I'm not the only one struggling to get that one lap. The way everyone was talking I started to think you all just sat down and did a mid 17 without much effort. Copse is my least favorite corner right now. Had one lap I was up .5 going into copse and came out behind. That ended up being my best so far at an 18.0. If I could just get that corner consistent I think I could pull off a mid to high 17.

There are tons of people pushing for that one good lap. I set my personal best .2 secs faster and moved up 300 spots. Went back later and moved down 200 spots

i seem to hit a wall trying to beat my 2:17.8xx.

I can't seem to get around sector one anymore. Sliding the car is so counter intuitive to my instinct to drive with grip. Adapting to this TT is difficult, although I have seemed to improve in all the other sectors. Nailing that lap seems far away.

Anyway. It seems like I might have a chance to make it if those 11' 12' racecamp drivers aren't elligible.

But since they didn't change the rules yet, nobody knows whats going to happen!

Is there a reason you do 3 lap stints? Why not restart after a dirty lap?

Phew, after 3 hours straight I finally improved my .762 to a .566. Was starting to lose my mind over here, just kept hitting sectors but never could string a run together. Absolutely babied the final 3 turns just because I was so far up on my ghost :P

Wish it really was, but the way I run in a race is much different than when I'm hot lapping. Look at all the invalid laps and crashes.

That's why I did another 10 Lap Test to determine race pace. Furthermore, I made my wheel heavy since I'm assuming that's how it will be in finals and we're not allowed to adjust.

1. 2:18.893
2. 2:18.867
3. 2.18.867
4. 2:18.971
5. 2:18.879

8. 2:18.746
9. 2:19.135
10. Crash at Copse

Fatigue from the prior stints finally got to me but I only redded two laps because I went an inch too wide exiting Chapel. Tires looked quite well; I did all I could not to slide them around too much. Still, that's a little too slow.

Is anyone here who runs 2:17-2:18's using a wheel other than the G27? I am using a DFGT and wonder if I am just wasting my time trying to get it to work!

I'm still not convinced that we will be on gt6 at the finals, and if we're not we don't need to worry about race pace at Silverstone at all.

Why wouldn't you be on gt6? It would be kind of dumb to go back to gt5 within the same event. Possible, but dumb.

Because PD would have had to build a pre-release version of GT6 exclusively for GT Academy....

I agree it would be dumb if they didn't do that, I'm just not 100% convinced that they have. It would be a good marketing tool for Sony and PD to have us use GT6 though. I'm sure we'll discuss it tonight.

DF Pro with power steering that's pretty much busted so I turned it off.

outlaw4rc uses an old beat up DF Pro and I have a Fanatec GT3.
There's probably also a lot of G25's, T500's, and DFGTs out there. Doodle and Harrison are also up there with the dual shock controller.

Equipment doesn't matter. Very few people have expensive setups and "proper" cockpits. And actually come to think of it the fastest people are usually using the most ghetto setups.

I wish that was true in my case. I'm using a walker for my wheel.
